My wife and I had been members of Western Suburbs Leagues Club for years. We would drive down from our home in Singleton (about an hour away) at least once a month. They have many dining areas at Wests (Lambton), from the cafe, to the...Bistro, to fine dining (depending on your taste and budget). We usually ate at the bistro but, because it was our wedding anniversary, we decided to try another of Wests’ eating areas. We chose Emerald Gardens. Pot luck. Well, I have to say that, first, the waitresses were helpful and obliging. (The three waitresses were all knowledgeable on the different items on the menu.) Second, my wife requested a glass of Sav Blanc, but didn’t want to spend a ton of money (we are both retired). No worries, our waitress said, we have a glass of house Sav Blanc. Third, our ordered food was quickly served and cooked to our liking. (My wife ordered king prawns in a garlic sauce. She got FIFTEEN king prawns in her dish. Unbelievable.) I ordered a fried mixed noodle dish. It was so large that I couldn’t eat it all. (We just sat down now, 24 hours later, to eat the left overs.). On check out, I was amazed how relatively cheap our meals cost. Now my wife and I have eaten at some of the best dining establishments in Australia (and New Zealand). I am not saying that Emerald Gardens is in that class, but the ambience is good, the service is excellent, the food is great, and the price is right.More

Very Disappointing, tasteless Fried rice and Chicken satay, they don't do sizzling dishes anymore, they advertise they do but they serve them on a plate. Our salt and pepper squid chewy and dim sims not cooked, leathery chewy tops. Not the same restaurant.

My family and I had a birthday celebration there last Saturday evening. We ordered the Banquet. Our booking was for 7:00pm and it was a good 30 mins between courses. Admittedly, we did leave food on the early courses because the dishes were very BLAND..That...may have been the reason the plates weren’t collected. We had to go to an external bar to get drinks after the initial drink order was taken. Staff were lovely, no question about that, but they did seem to be running around in circles , a little bit like the local rugby league team at the moment.More

I am staying on premises at The Executive Inn for work. Decided on this place based on their extensive vegetarian and vegan menu. I had the kweo Teow and added crispy tofu. Serving was huge but amazing. The service was a bit slow to get...seated but I had a fantastic booth, my rose was lovely and cold and my dinner was absolutely so epic. I ate way too much based on the deliciousness. I Could see that perhaps the staff are a bit lack lustre but as I was eating late and on my own, this wasn’t an issue. If the place was really busy, I could see potential service drama. But as I can only fairly comment on my experience, I would come back absolutely! Would recommend this place as the food was fabulous.More

We dined at Emerald Gardens hoping for a nice feed but left disappointed. We have dined here before and it was always nice but it is like the previous owners have left and the leagues club took over, have no clue and just want to...save money. The Chicken satay, ribs and the duck in the duck pancakes was alright but the pancakes themselves were old, dry and felt like they were left over from lunch and just reheated with the spring onions and cucumber a lunchtime leftover afterthought. The spring rolls and dim sims were cooked nicely but were filled with a watery mush (possible frozen product) and the boiled rice was just a clump. The staff were friendly and professional but they were really just going through the motions and did not appear that they actually wanted to be there but, and I mean this in the nicest way, a “larger” young lady was wonderful and has such a beautiful soul. She seemed to actually care about our experience and her calmness will take her far in hospitality. We will definitely give Emerald Gardens a miss next time. With the quality of the food, we really regretted just not getting dinner at the football. It probably would have cost the same but just not as disappointing.More

We have dined here in the past and the food has always been great, last Saturday we dined in the restaurant and the service and food were below average, the chicken dim sims were just like the frozen dim sims you buy in a supermarket,...the mains were lacking flavour, please don't order the special fried rice as there is nothing special about it, the service was appalling, it was quite obvious that the lady who was serving us did not want to be there.More

Emerald gardens has been a family favourite so was our choice for a special family occasion. We haven’t been for a while so was a little shocked at the changes since our last visit The menu has been reduced to one single page with a...seperate offer of a banquet if you wished - maybe changes due to Covid? Don’t ask for any “off menu” items because the answer will be a big no. We asked for an omelette and was told no it isn’t on menu chef doesn’t do what is not on menu. Surely making an omelette is not that difficult particularly when there is one in offer in the banquet menu? Our food was good dishes were cooked well although the dim sims looked like they had come out of a frozen packet I can buy in the supermarket definitely not what we had enjoyed on previous occasions. What was the let down for us was the service or total lack of it. We experienced very poor service, there was no clearing of the table, no taking away our empty glasses or offer to refill. We ended up going to the bar outside the restaurant and taking our used glasses back just to get them off the table. We had to ask for the plates to be removed when they bought out our celebration cake, placing it on top of a clearly dirty table. Lucky we were able to wipe it over ourselves with wet wipes we had on us. There was one young waitress who was kind and really doing her best, we felt sorry for her she was working hard Such a shame to see what is known as a great restaurant for food and customer service go a few steps back. Please don’t keep these abbreviated menus and poor customer service it is really not fitting of the old Emerald Gardens that many locals keep coming back to.More

As a Wests member we have been coming to this restaurant for a while now but after our birthday dinner last night, doubt we will be back again. Great venue, lovely helpful staff but the food is nearly inedible. Beef, chicken and prawns are all...precooked and added to whatever sauce goes with the dish you ordered. Obviously everything is precooked so that service to customers is fast. Prawns are rubbery and look unappetising, chicken is dry and flavourless, beef is overcooked, dry and tasteless. Portion sizes are generous but who wants to eat a lot of barely warm, precooked food which you can easily make at home and save the $22 a dish. Perhaps Wests need to employ talented chefs who can cook Chinese cuisine from scratch instead of using bottled sauces and precooked meat. Also, the bottled wine prices are outrageous!!!!!! Such a nice venue with lovely staff it would be a shame if Wests did nothing to improve the taste, quality and presentation of food in Emerald Gardens.More

Attempted to celebrate our 27 year anniversary (and booked as such). Food had improved since this time last year, but spring rolls came out cold and I cooked in the middle so they were sent back. Rest of meal was nice, alcohol overpriced when compared...to outside bars (within the Wests club). Wait staff appeared to be keen to get people ‘out’ when spring rolls were sent back, they took out bowls, I asked for another set ..... we are still waiting. They no longer give out the fortune cookies (as it states in the menu when we ordered a pot of tea) or the hot towelettes like they did years ago)..overall was ok. $58 for 2 meals, small fried rice, spring rolls & pot of tea (inclusive of club discount)More

I took a party of 8 to Emerald Gardens restaurant last night. The venue is great- easy to get to, situated inside the West’s Leagues club. Nicely lit for ambience, not crowded and didn’t seem hurried! The menu was good, fairly priced and balanced. We...were unable to book the set menu as there were seafood allergies at our table and they couldn’t/wouldn’t let us substitute the seafoood courses for alternatives. That wasn’t a problem- I get how busy the kitchen must be and I’m sure they have enough to consider without changes, so we just picked from the extensive menu ourselves. The food was piping hot and extremely tasty. The waitress was attentive without being over the top. We each left feeling full and happy. A great experience that will be repeated.More

Went to emerald gardens on a Friday night for dinner but was very displeased with the food. The spring rolls tasted horrible and the steamed pork dumplings were extremely dry! Hard to eat. And that was just the entree. Mains were a disaster. I ordered...the honey chicken which was the worst honey chicken I've ever tasted, I couldn't actually eat it. My fiance's meal came out a good 10 minutes after mine with no explanation. Will not be back.More

My wife and I dined at Emerald Gardens last night, with two English friends who were visiting us for the fourth time in 15 years. The food was fabulous and the service was provided with a smile and in a most professional and timely manner....We had not dined at the Gardens for quite some time, and we were very impressed with the whole experience - we were seated in a semi-circular, almost private, dining area which made conversation very easy. Our English visitors were so impressed with the quality of the food that they managed to clear each and every plate which was being shared. We will be returning very soon.More
