Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hog's steaks are really great. I believe their other menu items are just as good, but I always have the slow roasted prime rib.

Restaurant is gone and appears to be a permanent closure so not sure if this has occurred pre COVID as there appear to be quite a few places along Honeysuckle that are permanently closed up.

I use to enjoy going to Hogs breath but my experience on Tuesday i will not be going back. Service was disgusting , we ordered drinks and had to remind the waiter after about 20 minutes that we would like our drinks.Ordered a kids meal...for my grandson 18 months old and though his meal would of came with our entrees but no we had to ask for that also . When our meal arrived its was ok ( not like tbey use to be ) not once did the waiter come back to see if we wanted anything else or ask how our meals were , if we required anything we had to go to them . Such a disappointment and this restaurant has deteriorated so quickly , wont be backMore

I took my grandkids 2 weeks ago firstly to be advised they don’t do the lunch special during school holidays ( all about making more money). The kids burger was over cooked dry and tasteless. It was in fact inedible. My fish was also floury...and very small portions for all meals. When I advised the service staff they offered to provide more chips. We left hungry and extremely disappointed. Save your money go elsewhere. I contacted Hogs Breath via Facebook and email the day of my visit. Still no response 2 weeks later. I highly recommend if you want quality meals with better service go anywhere else. Disappointed CustomerMore

Greeted at the door by a grumpy bad skinned female staff member. No "welcome to Hogs" greeting or "Happy Birthday" or even a smile. Our booth was set for 2 even though I had booked for 4 people on line and my hubby had to...request two more sets of cutlery. After quite a while, a sour faced waitress turned up at our booth with a "ready to order" but we hadn't even ordered drinks yet. Waitress seemed very inflexible with menu and drink order. Paying $28 for a chicken schnitzel parmy and only allowed one side of chips, no vegies or salad seemed rude. We were told we'd have to pay extra for a small bowl of vegies which we did reluctantly. My birthday garlic mushroom steak with vegies and mash was ok but not up to hogs standard - steak was riddled with grissly bits, garlic mushrooms had no garlic whatsoever and mushroom sauce tasted like gravox, tasteless mashed potato but steamed vegies were nice. Where are the thick Hogs Breath Cafe printed serviettes? Not a fan of the daggy Coles no brand thin serviettes which are useless in wiping your mouth and hands with, not to mention they look tacky. Overall, a very disappointing meal where not one staff member had a smile or enthusiasm for customers. I hold a frequent diner card which expires this month and it is unlikely I will be renewing.More

Not our usual experience maybe a bad night? Our steaks were terrible hard to cut felt like we were using blunt knives we all left a fair portion of our steaks. Our waitress was lovely and 4 of us were offered 25% off our meal...which was appreciated. Came here as it’s our usual celebration place but when your fries are the best thing in a fairly expensive meal it’s pretty disappointing. Prawn twists were crispy one side and soft the other. Meals took about 30 mins tonight. Usually love it here but tonight was a miss for us :(More

A very pleasant lunch, overlooking the bay at Newcastle. The food and service were reliably good as with most Hogs Breath restaurants, the only negative was the waiter spilled my coffee into the saucer. He apologised, but still left me with a sloppy coffee filled...saucer.More

Hog's Breath Cafe on the waterfront Newcastle. Slow service, at times seem to be forgotten. When finally waitress arrives, without the normal friendly greeting, no name, the hallmark of most Hog's Breath I've been too. Didn't know how Birthday Voucher worked, took my order, promised...to find out meal options with Voucher. After long wait returned with my Steak only she didn't ask how I wanted it cooked. Strange as restaurant wasn't exactly busy wonder how they handle things when busy. Forgettable experience.More

Went there the other week for a dinner with friends and although not expensive prices really for a main dish I was disappointed by not only the small portion that arrived but how bad it looked and tasted! I know it's not meant to be...fine dining, but having been to Tuggarah Hogs Breath where it was pretty good and large portions, this clearly missed the brief. Troppo Chicken pieces of pineapple with bacon and cheese melted onto a Chicken Schnitzel. What arrived was dark brown thin chicken schnitzel with one pineapple ring, awful thin bacon piece and translucent cheese not properly melted. Yuk! the only thing decent on the plate was the curly fries which seem to be freshly done. Wouldn't go back EVER!More

Thought we’d give Hogs Breath ago after being disappointed a couple of years ago. Never go back again. The wait staff looked bored, the food is overpriced and really small servings. The chicken dijonnaise was so strong tasting of mustard it wasn’t digestible. The slow...cooked steaks were nice but the whole meal of steak and hogs fries is not worth the price. There is so many nicer places with better value and nicer meals around.More

As regular Hogs breath customers , generally through the quality and versatility of the menu we were disappointed yet again with this particular venue . Drinks were served with no ice , food was cold , order was messed up (wrong dishes and additions) steak...was well below hogs breath standard . This is the 3rd poor visit to this restaurant for our family and will be the last ! When addressing staff at checkout on this we were told “ Oh ok , sorry” no remorse or wish to appease a customer Poor customer Service !!More

Its the sauces. The meat ranges from ordinary (my wifes steak had a lot of grissle) to sublime (my brisket just fell apart at the touch of the fork) but its the sauces that make it all great. Nice spot to be. It was a...cool night but they had overhead heaters which were more than adequate, and the location is busy but quiet at the same time. Its a nice area to walk and eat and relax.More

The place is located on the foreshore of Honeysuckle drive in new castle. The location is breathtaking and the crowd is sophisticated and posh. The food is great and so is the service. Recommended in week ends with family and friends....

Service was ok could have been better, saw people waiting to pay/be served...for a long time it was not busy at all. We won't be we left disappointed and won't be returning.More
