Picked this venue for a belated Valentine’s Day celebration. Good choice as the place was buzzing with people celebrating and having fun. We selected the banquet set menu along with a bottle of wine and resolved to take our time enjoying the view and quirky...wall art. We loved the food choices and particularly the slow cooed lamb and accompanying Zaatar cauliflower salad. Many thanks.More

Food was fine however there were too many hard and fast rules with no chance of changing them. No split bills. Party of 8 or more has to be banquet. To eat you own birthday cake on you own plates with your own cutlery costs...you $6 per head. We arrived a little early and wanted 3 drinks but they would not let us purchase these separately and pay for them. I will happily pay top dollar for a great experience but this was not one of them. There are plenty of places to go where you can have great food and a relaxed experience where you dont have to comply to a myriad of house rules. Never again for me.More

I had the opportunity to have a superb meal last night at Rustica and fortunately we had the BEST server Evie. I always create a stir as I have a therapy dog who must be with me at all time as I have stage 4...cancer. My friends, my dog and I were welcomed with open arms. We all agreed that the food was absolutely superb. I ordered fish and was disappointed to hear it was swordfish as I find it to be very dry. Evie assured me it would not be dry and she was right as it was the first time I’ve eaten perfect, moist swordfish. My other guests were overwhelmed with their choices of shared lamb, zucchini flowers and scallops. We had a wonderful experience and my next visit to Newcastle from Sydney, I will most definitely return to Rustica. Thank you.More

I had walked past Rustica during past visits and stays at Novotel Newcastle Beach. Yesterday afternoon while out for a walk I dropped in on a whim to see if they had availability last night. We had to wait until 7:30 for a Seaview table...but let me say it was well worth the wait. The young woman who took my booking was cheerful and engaging. Our table was ready on arrival and the restaurant was busy but the staff were attentive with offering drinks and not rushing our food selection. There were not a lot of wines on offer by the glass but the Italian Pinot Gris was very drinkable. And the house label Shiraz was a standout given the modest pricing by the glass and bottle. Serves were substantial and no rushed for Entree we shared the Zucchini flowers that arrived hot and fresh. For mains we had the chicken and steak. Both were excellent. A top night out at a very reasonable price.More

This is truly a great restaurant. Service was magnificent from the time we walked in to the bill time paying to a very nice young cocktail barman. The food was first class and the waitress could not do enough to accommodate us. This restaurant should...be duplicated on the Gold Coast as it would be a massive hit . Thankyou for a wonderful experienceMore

We went on the waitlist for this beautiful restaurant and luckily a spot came up 2 hours later! What a great system they have to see if there are last minute spots. We had a fabulous meal and the view was just beautiful. My daughter...and I shared the cabbage salad, fries and pasta. It was all absolutely delicious. The staff were amiable and attentive. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant!More

Kids spaghetti was disgusting and it had a hair in it. Kids chicken strips over cooked and barely edible. Two premium steaks, both overcooked. Way too expensive for the quality of food. Never again. seriously underwealming. We were not the only ones in our group...that received bad food.More

This restaurant has friendly staff, a great view out to sea, a nice ambience and sensational food. The staff aim to please and are attentive but not constantly by your side. The food is delicious, mix of flavours, Mediterranean but not obviously so. Wine was...able to be tried before purchasing.More

Maybe I am getting fussier/chooser in my old age but when I go out for dinner, especially to a restaurant where the main meals are $40+ I expect exceptional food that I could not cook at home. Rustica delivers on the friendly prompt service box,...but the food we had was not up to what I had hoped for. The lovely staff wished us a Happy Anniversary and sat us at a window table which was great. We were offered water and a drinks menu. The wine by the glass is verging on being over the top in price. I do not want to pay $17 for a glass of wine - especially one that is 2022 and I could buy at Dan Murphy's for $30 a bottle. The entrees were very tasty. The scallops were nicely cooked and the olives were warm and sweet. That's where the compliments stop sadly. We were there to celebrate an occasion and asked the waitress if we could have a break between the entrees and the mains, as we were in no hurry. Despite her saying that was perfectly fine, we had just put our forks down from the entree when the main meals were served? The mains were average - and that is being kind. No matter how they were described on the menu they were steak, chips and a coleslaw/cold something blob on a plate and the Market fish was a thin slice of Swordfish (which doesn't seem right) chat potatoes and a coleslaw type cold blob on a plate. Both were $40+ We are not dessert eaters and instead of having another glass of wine there, we paid our bill and decided to head downstairs to Bar Petite for a last tipple. Despite us hoping for a nice long evening at the restaurant, we looked at our watches and it was 8pm. We had been there for a total of 1 hour. Would we go back - no.More

A top spot for a good feed, nice view, during the sunshine hours, and plenty of seating for small or large groups. We decided to order a bunch of sides and to just share them rather than a main meal, which was great. The sides...were really nice, the calamari was so tasty and perfectly cooked! Arancini balls .. yum yum!! All food was delivered to our table in under 15minutes, super quick, and the place was rather busy, so the chef was on top of things. We were drinking wine and gin, and there are plenty of options on the menu for both, and cocktails if thats your thing. All the waiters that were serving us throughout the night were friendly, helpful and welcoming. My only gripe with the place is that when paying at the end the lady on the till made it well known that you wil be presented with a tip option on the machine. Remove this! We live in Australia! So annoying for places that try to push a tip onto you when its not necessary. If i want to tip i will put some cash in the jar, like most have done in the jar on the counter. Sneaky and not welcomed from my opinion. You lost a star because of this. All in all good food, nice spot for a feed, great entree options, and nice view during the sunshine hours! get a window seat!More

My husband and I celebrated a date night here last night and wow - amazing meal, location and service! Our host Jack T was excellent - attentive and provided a great wine recommendation! We shared the olives and arancini for entrees and then the pork...belly and gnocchi for mains. The gnocchi and arancini were the stand out dishes and I will forever be ruined for how delicious the gnocchi was - nothing will come close to it. We will certainly be back!More

We were a table of 6 (family) and ordered the set meal for $69 per head, which is good value if you're big eaters as it includes dessert. Mid week, the restaurant was very busy at night yet the service was still very good. We...enjoyed the views from our table. Location is excellent as it's walkable from most accommodation places in Newcastle East. Parking is challenging. Loved the decor - a mix of European and middle eastern designs.More
