We booked Rustica for a special anniversary dinner based a good experience we had had there two years prior. How times have changed! We had booked weeks earlier, noting that it was our anniversary, we were seated between two large groups having Christmas parties. There...is currently a set menu. The scallops were over cooked. The crouquettes were only fried batter, crunchy but flavourless and the lamb shoulder was so fatty we got the meat sweats. It was dry and hard to swallow. The dessert was so flavourless we didn't finish it. The service was terrible. The servers treated us like bringing food to us was an inconvenience, food was slapped down the table and dirty plates were left as the next course arrived. We couldn't get out of there quick enough. Loud, terrible food and no customer service. Do yourself a favour, keep your $200 in your pocket or walk around the corner and try Mason instead!More

I have eaten here several times over the years and returned, largely, for the view as I have found the food reasonable but nothing outstanding. We were not graced with the opportunity of testing either last night. I booked some time ago. On arrival we...could not get in and the restaurant was clearly closed. I not only booked, but received a confirmation which noted it was for a birthday. Very poor customer service. I won't be returning.More

We’d heard great things about this place, the gnocchi was amazing, zucchini flowers didn’t have a lot of flavour, chips were frozen should’ve gone the chats, the vegetable targine is more like deconstructed moussaka, and the garlic bread is nothing to rave about.

We went here for a birthday dinner. I hadn’t been before but will definitely be going back. The food was delicious and very appealing to the eye.(mine could have been a bit hotter). The cocktail were excellent as well. The restaurant was very clean, staff...were friendly and helpfulMore

We have been a few times and the last couple of times we’ve been let down. Our previous visit was very ordinary but though we would give them another chance. The food was great but things were forgotten. We have the lanb but had to...ask for some of the sides and it was treated like an imposition . The staff for the most part were surly and at best rude and stood behind the bar laughing amonsgt themselves. We had to ask for water numerous times and they didn’t even ask if we’d like dessert. It certainly isn’t the Rustica from a few years ago where it was delightful. A real Shame!More

We had the pleasure of visiting Rustica for a birthday celebration, in a group of 20. We preordered the entrees, to save time, but ordered a la carte mains. All the meals were delicious and arrived in a very reasonable time plus, the service was...perfect! Thank you. PS We also enjoyed watching the whales play along Newcastle Beach.More

Poor service, poor management, ok food, good location, bad acoustics. Waitress (& staff) did not know anything about their wine list. After wine ordered waitress left, it took multiple attempts to get her attention to order food despite it not being very busy. After 20-minutes...we managed to order food. We waited patiently but after 30-minutes and 2 other couples that came in after us were served food we again tried to get waitress attention. The manager observed us and after a brief conversation with the waitress, the waitress came over and told us she forgot to put in our order. We asked for bread for the table whist we wait as we had almost finished our bottle of wine after 50-minutes. Soggy garlic bread was sent to the table. Food arrived and was ok but by then we were starving. Waitress and management actively avoided us until we left. Pretty appalled by staff and managements approach. No efforts of reparations were made. Not the ideal Wedding Anniversary experience. With so many great places to dine in Newcastle, we will not be back. Acoustics were dreadful, very loud, not the place for a intimate meal. Music selection was not appropriate. The restaurants main advantage is the view.More

One of those restaurants that just ticks all of the boxes. It's a bit pricier than most but is definitely worth it.

We shared a number of dishes amongst our group and all were top notch. The lamb was cooked perfectly, the gnocchi was so soft and tender, the spaghetti and prawns had a great flavour topped off with good service. Our table was very happy.

Despite the location, restaurant setting and good customer service the food was average, actually a good pub meal was on par.

I would phone them ASAP and ask/ book. This is an awesome restaurant you must book to definitely reserve a table. A 10/10 restaurant 👍

There is limited parking in the streets to the back of where Rustica is situated. I managed to find a park in the section before you turn off into the paid parking for the Hotel. While in the restaurant also noticed people... More
