Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great hotel .. we stayed one night.. Newcastle Knights football was on TV’s downstairs ( great vibe with the locals) and a bit of live music which carried sound to the room but the showers are super powerful and shared bathrooms freshly renovated. The whole place is really clean and staff wonderful. Check in is at the bar so you can order a drink while that’s happening.

We attended for a birthday lunch for 12 people. The kids were provided with a party bag of activities (nice touch). The North American waitress was cheerful, friendly, attentive and excellent at her job. We have some Coeliac's and a vegetarian who were all catered for without fault. The meals were good and for once not overloaded as is often the case with pub food that gets wasted. Nice refurbished atmosphere with lounge areas to catch up before or after the meal. Easy parking in rear carpark with access straight in to the hotel.

Having allergies in our family is hard, but upon a recent trip to Newcastle Australia we found the Nags Head Hotel.
It's very accommodating with allergies - having gluten free, dairy free etc on the menu. They were also able to provide a vegan nachos (while not on the menu, it is available).
They had no issues accommodating our nut allergy also.
Meals are reasonably priced, especially the lunch specials. Meals were of a great quality too. Kids meals were very large!!
Overall, we really enjoyed it.

Went here for a meal dead on the new Covid restrictions. They took the time to ring up and explain beforehand and had the whole thing sorted - great work. Food was amazing. Will be back.

What a nice surprise in Adamstown just west of Newcastle on the hill.
Beautiful decor, a fantastic selection of beers and quality wines.
The meals are all generous sized and very tasty. We ordered the salt & pepper calamari and the beer battered fish/chips & salad.
A great family environment and plenty of nooks for quiet catchups for business or with a friend.
Highly recommended.
Hotel also offers refurbed accommodation.

Room was well presented and although bathrooms were shared they were clean and in good condition. The room has sink and glasses which was super handy. We were right above the pub itself and being a Saturday night there was some noise from downstairs. Bed was comfy and well set up. Decent size room for the two of us. Enjoyed the code access meaning no deciding who looked after the keys. Would stay again

We stayed on two separate occasions (multiple days each stay) whilst at home visiting family in Newcastle from where we currently live in the US.
When my husband said he had booked accommodation above a pub, I was apprehensive as we have stayed at many pub accommodations prior and, well, let’s just say they are lacking. Especially the shared bathroom situation.
I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed by the Nags accommodation.
The rooms are meticulously clean and you can tell they have been recently updated. They are nicely decorated, have comfortable beds with quality linens and 2 x pillows per person, great air conditioning, a convenient sink in room and some other great features like a tv with multiple channels and an ironing board and iron.
The security is great with a generalized key pad code to get you into the hotel after hours and also into the floor with the rooms, and then keypad access to the room. We found that super convenient as my husband and I could come and go as we needed without shuffling one room key between us.
Yes, they are shared bathrooms. But they are very clean, renovated and I felt safe any time I took a shower in the private cubicles or used the bathroom.
A great touch was also the kitchenette/common area with tea and coffee making facilities, a toaster and mini fridge.
While we didn’t really prepare ‘meals’ ourselves, it was nice to be able to cook some toast and make a cup of tea for breakfast without having to leave the hotel and search for food.
Bistro food was great downstairs and we took advantage of the cheap pizza/pasta night, burger night and the cheap lunches. Food was great, quick to come out and very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity served.
The only complaint we had was that both our rooms seemed to be above the bar, so there was a constant thud from the bass in the music being played in the bar. We are very understanding of the fact we are staying on top of a pub and expect noise, however more times than once it was a little out of control (it sounded like the bass was WAY turned up) and on a few occasions went on past when the pub was shut, and also started super early two of the mornings we stayed (like, 7am early)
I should also mention, we had our 21 month old toddler with us who sleeps with a loud sound muffling machine on, and this was heard well over the top of the sound machine.
While annoying, it’s a small complaint and because of all the other great points, we would definitely stay again.
Well done Nags!

Had dinner here last night with a large group of friends. Food came out quickly for such a large number of people. I had chicken schnitzel with Avo and bacon which was really good. I normally do not get schnitzel as it can be dry, but this one was lovely.
They also have a yummy dessert menu, the famous Adamstown pudding they served is the best I have ever had. You can buy this locally from the pudding kitchen down the road on the Cnr Glebe and Brunker Rd which will be great for Christmas Day.

The rooms were really clean and the beds really comfy and the linen was of great quality. It wasn’t a big problem having a share bathroom. The bathroom was very clean and the towels were large. The accommodation also smelt really clean-not musty or dirty. We had a lovely dinner downstairs. So glad we chose to stay here. Will definitely stay again. Thanks

A group of 14 had lunch at the hotel & everyone enjoyed their meals, I had Barramundi which was excellent & the steak sandwiches looked amazing. The service was excellent & the lunch menu prices are good with an excellent selection. I couldn't fault it and everyone suggested we would go back again.
