Called in to the The Proprietor for a late breakfast with a party of 5. Table service was prompt. Good coffee, everyone enjoyed their meal (although adult pancakes were a little sweet, but that's just personal preference). Conveniently located around the corner from The Hovell Tree Inn (note for tourists). A great coffee spot throughout our stay in Albury.

This little gem is situated in a refurbished shopfront with history dating back to the late nineteenth century. Located near the main street of town but away from the noise and fury, Romy and his team present low key, relaxed, friendly service. The Coffee, 'Padre' from Melbourne, was served promptly and presented with caramel palate tones, rich in flavour but gentle on the bod.
A familiar menu is given an imaginative twist with fusion and flavour added for fun. The servings are generous and well presented. The cake and pastry shelves present a palatable selection of goods and the apple and walnut bread is to be recommended for those who like tasty but simple.
On the weekend, the locals of all ages enjoy meeting and noshing at The Proprietor. The owner went out of his way to make us feel welcome but be prepared to wait for a table. Staff were only too happy to make our table order a take away when requested, as travellers must move on with fond memories of a homely and welcoming Albury experience

Ask Cassidy to make you a single origin; she is a top barista and knows her way around the magnificent steam machine.
Went with my wife and daughter looking for great experience and got it @ Proprietor. Service was fast and coffee was at exactly correct temperature. Had Ethiopian and had excellent nose and texture; my wife liked the Almond milk but everything was still in correct proportion re temperature and type of Almond used.
Great experience here.

I went 12 months ago was bad and even worst today, the service seemed like a effort, handling cutlery in dirty hands, wasn’t asked if we had signed in using the QR code and I didn’t see One table been sanitised after people left.
Eggs were cold, coffee was ok they forgot the tomato on one dish and when asked for it the waiter brought it out and slammed it on the table.
Tables are not 1.5m apart as well, I do not recommend I recommend you try any other cafe in Albury / Wodonga even McDonald’s would be better.

We arrived here on a Saturday morning without a booking. The Cafe was busy but we were given a table outside in a sunny spot. Food and coffee came out in a very appropriate time frame. Everything we ordered from coffee's, hot and iced to porridge, smashed avocado and corn fritters with haolumi. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and dining experience.

Helpful staff found us an outdoor table in the shade as it was already quite warm when we arrived a bit after 9 to find the place humming.
Three of us all had substantial ‘no egg, no bread’ selections from the everyday menu. One was based on a poach pear/yoghurt, another on açai/chia and the third on a breakfast yoghurt panacotta. Each had fresh and/or freeze dried fruits, granola (different types on different dishes), coconut flakes or oat/nut clusters. All looked colourful and enticing and had taste and texture that matched the presentation.
Drink selection, both hot and cold, was extensive including a coffee spritzer, which was an ideal choice on the hot morning we visited.
Will we visit again if we are in Albury around breakfast time? Absolutely. In fact we will probably plan our travel on the Hume Highway to make sure we can visit again.

Hadn’t eaten here for a while, but remembered it had been good, so had a quick bite to eat just recently. The staff were friendly accommodating , as I watched a group of Mum’s and their babies and pushers arrive.
I had the ham and cheese toasted sandwich. Wow, I think it was sourdough bread, big thick slices and the thickly sliced ham and copious cheese oozed out the sides. Great value for $12. Will be back !

This is a slick operation that’s a favourite with locals and a good find for visitors (like we were!) It was really packed but they found us a table and our tea and coffee came out quickly. They do have lactose free milk which was great (we hadn’t found it at the other places we’d tried in Albury) and the cappuccinos were good. We did have a bit of a wait for our meals, but given the amount of people in there, it was understandable. The poached eggs and bacon were worth the wait (avo on the side) - sourdough was great quality and one of us had gluten free toast which was also not just your average supermarket loaf (I wish all cafes would make the same great effort with their gluten free bread offering!) All round a fab find and it will definitely be our ‘go to’ brekkie stop when next in Albury.

We stopped into Albury for breakfast on a long haul trip from Echuca to Sydney. So glad we decided on The Proprietor. Great menu - loved the franks and beans with its perfect poached egg and delicious house made beans. Great coffee too but the impressive service on a very busy pressure-packed Saturday morning set this place apart. Not one complaint or messed up order, patient, super organised and friendly staff provided such a top ambience for us to enjoy the great food. Will be putting this cafe on the must visit again list for the trip up and down the Hume.

Driving from Melbourne to Newcastle is a taxing experience and you have to make many stops along the way. Of course, you can stop on the Hume Highway service centres but the food here just makes you feel even worse.
Albury is a 3-hour drive from Melbourne through some very unite resting countryside on a very boring highway, so it's nice to stop at The Proprietor for a decent lunch.
They are making an effort here, and it shows. The coffee is very good and the food is typical cafe fare, but it is Melbourne standard and that's why it's our lunch stop. They could smarten up the service, though. It's not terrible, but a bit inattentive and slow.
They also have Keto friendly options, which works for me.

My son and I drove down to the AFL Grand Final last weekend. We stayed at Seymour Friday and Saturday nights with only a short drive into and out of Melbourne. On Sunday, we left Seymour early to drive back to the Southern Highlands and decided to have breakfast in Albury.
The Proprietor was just what we needed. A warm welcome, efficient staff, prompt seating and table service, good menu selection, really good food and coffee, genuine commiserations over our team’s loss and take away coffees for the journey.
I’ve been to this café and others many times on business and holidays trips to Victoria and I realise now just what a gem it is to be so consistently…excellent at what is does. It’s a ripper and certainly won’t be staying on the Highway whenever I’m near Albury in future. The Proprietor is too good to drive past!

Finally found somewhere that makes amazing coffee was my wife’s first words after taking her first sip of her coffee.
We had lunch here today and everything was delicious.
We ordered the smashed avocado on toast, a scrambled eggs with bacon and scotch fillet sandwiches.
Everything was delicious. The steak sandwich was with Turkish bread and made it that extra delicious.
The staff were very friendly and helpful the cafe it’s was clean and refreshing.
The prices were a bit on the high side. 18.00 for the steak sandwich and 20 for avocado
Overall excellent experience will be back for sure

We called in for lunch and coffee twice in a week during a road trip. The first was after 2pm which might have explained the poor service and ordinary coffee, but the second time was at the start of lunch and service was again ordinary. On the first occasion I had to search for the waiter as he had forgotten us and then he mistook our order and we got a dish we hadn't ordered. Second visit the service was better, food was ok but not great and coffees were Luke warm.

Came upon this restaurant completely by chance while visiting Albury. We saw it was busy (as busy as they can be while social distancing tables etc) so assumed it must be good. Undoubtedly the best breakfast we have had in years!!! Hard to choose from the menu as everything sounded so good. I went with the Avo & Feta with pickled carrots on sourdough - best breakfast ever - beautiful presentation & the flavours were phenomenal. My husband had the omelette which was also amazing. The kids did the waffles- so good. Service was lovely, coffee great. When we are next in Albury we will be back!!!!
