Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First, we were seated next to a group of 14 People in a small space whom continued to drink and get louder by the minute . We finally had to ask to be reseated when the profanity became too great. The space should have been...limited to the large group. The restaurant continued to seat people next to the large group even after we were reseated . No concept of any space, environment or customer experience , just run people thru the restaurant and get the food out. Zero service. Second, we ordered rack of lamb. My plate had to 2 very small lamb chops served with a few potatoes and vegetables and was cold . My plate should have had between 4-6 lamb chops served . The plate was $52 dollars . It should have had a complete rack for that price . The dessert I ordered was tasteless . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone . They have not won any awards for several years and need to rethink whom they are what they are trying to accomplish. Just stay away.More

Wonderful meal. My partner had the Venison Salad and enjoyed it very much. It eas a Lethe serving of venison. The venison was seared and very raw in the middle so if you like it more well done then let the know when ordering. Blue...cod was cooked perfectly and the flavors went very well together. Service as attentive, though we felt on the slow side. We are used to service in NYC—a much faster pace. Trying to get used to the slower pace in New Zealand.More

Our experience was much better than a couple of recent ones that found the food here underwhelming. We had excellent Blue Cod and Venison Salad, served pleasantly and efficiently, in the traditional ambiance of the Redcliff. Moreover they had kindly allowed us to add one...to our reservation after my sister arrived in Te Anau earlier than expected, much appreciated when we know how busy restaurants are there at this time. The standard is very high - fine dining without the white linen, and quite expensive but good value. Be sure to get a booking.More

Ordered the meat platter in the feont bar. Bit of a ripoff for overdone octopus tails, tastless and overdone pork bits and some bread and dips. Cold venison skewers that we sent back which were returned in the same bowl, not warm, and not even...a fresh skewer. Spoke to the chef who was rude and insulting. Wait staff were polite but inept. We complained about food and price, no refund offered. Would not recommend.More

This place belongs on Michelin. Not kidding, this is one of the best wild game eateries we've ever tried on four continents. Fresh local ingredients, superbly prepared, and a engaging and knowledgeable staff. The venison oso buco and hare were winners.

Couldn’t get a table on either of the two nights we were in Te Anau. Opted for a table outside with the snack menu which looked good as listed on the Blackboard, and would have suited us perfectly. Unfortunately due to an overwhelmed kitchen they...only had four items available. Sorry, but this is peak season in NZ. 😲 We took three of the four items that were available, all were excellent! We settled for a meal without structure and without any protein. We were done in 30 minutes! COVID seems to have given carte Blanche for an anything goes, limited options operation by all sorts of businesses. Not good for punters.More

Good start, our server Lise was from France and thus we spoke to her in French. Appetizer of bread was expensive but very good. Main course special was lamb. It was good but rustic in presentation. Rib steak served rare was very tough. replacement was...just as tough. It was obviously a poor quality of beef. Our wait staff changed twice. Comment was was we were the only guests who complained.More

Paso Bucco small portion compared to anything we have had whilst touring a month in NZ. Blue Cod was served lukewarm warm!! After sent back the plate was just rewarmed not even a fresh dish. Customer satisfaction not considered.

Just lovely. Would have been a great meal anywhere in the world. For a very small town in the South of New Zealand it. Was a real treat.

Had wanted to book a table here after reading rave reviews and looking at the menu online. We tried to get a table as a walk in but there was already a sign outside stating the restaurant was fully booked. Consequently we enquired about availability...for the following evening, but again they were fully booked. We liked the atmosphere in the bar area, albeit busy, and discovered a little seating area where books, board and table games were available, quite quirky but great! Having ordered drinks we decided to order from their snack menu, choosing the game platter, which could be eaten in the bar area. The platter included arancini, Octopus in breadcrumbs, potato wedges, pork belly bites, dips, olives etc. During our time in the bar numerous people came in and were disappointed that they were unable to secure a table in the restaurant. Really enjoyed our visit and if in Te Anau again would book months in advance to ensure getting a table in the restaurant. Other people we met on our travels highly recommended thus restaurant separately too.More

Neat eclectic place with great service and an awesome location. The venison salad was tender, delicious, and well balanced. The rolled omelet with tini fish( I forgot their name...White...something) was crispy yet flavor. The accompanying salad was fresh and delicious.

A gem of a place. Great food, great wine, great music splendid atmosphere and staff were very welcoming. Found it by accident one night and it was so good we booked again for the second night. It doesn't look a lot from outside but well...worth going in. If we are ever in Te Anau again we would certainly go back. It does get very busy so booking is recommended.More

It was unfortunately rainy, but otherwise the location would have been fantastic to sit outside. The pino flight was “meh.” There was a white fish omelete special that was lovely, and the pumpkin soup and accompaniments hit the spot. The steak sandwich was also quite...good. All in all, not a bad find. After lunch coffee was good as well.More
