I took my daughter to Lone Star Queenstown for her 13th Birthday dinner and we had the best time. Both of our meals were delicious and super tasty with generous portions and our waitress was really helpful and friendly. They also gave my daughter a free pavlova birthday cake with a candle and sang her Happy Birthday. I highly recommend you dine here for service, taste, value for money as per meal portion size.

- [ ] The restaurant experience can be enhanced or ruined with the person that waits on you, as that person is the interface between you, the customer; and the kitchen and bar. - [ ] Depending how well the function is carried out is how the customer satisfacción would be. Our experience at the Lone Star Cafe Bar and Restaurant in Queenstown, New Zealand was enhanced and made enjoyable by Sophie, the shift manager that waited on us when we dined las Friday. Shophie’s care of our preferences from how the meat meals should be prepared to the crispness of the bread that we ordered; as well as her suggestions made up for a very an enjoyable dinner. We ordered a crispy loaf of garlic olive oil bread and came up scrunchy as we like it. We followed with pork spare ribs and fries, a simple dish, that was a large and very satisfying. Following the suggestion of Sophie, when I asked about tender meat, I ordered the fillet which came cooked as I preferred, well done. Beer, sparkling wine, and Pinot Noir accompanied our meal; but we had no room for dessert. All in all a very enjoyable dinner, with special thanks to charming and energetic Sophie. In fact, because of her, we returned the following night, to have the special of crayfish, but that is for another review.

We had my 40th birthday at the upstairs bar at Lone Star. Melissa and Jess were friendly and helpful all around fantastic people to deal with. We organised platters of food, they are very generous portions and everyone raved about them! I would highly recommend the venue if you are looking for a function space. They also where able to put the rugby on which was a bonus! Go Highlanders

Crap and crap is the best way to describe it. I feel for the waitresses having to work here, they were run off their feet. Meals were over an hour and when the kids meals arrived they were past it, not to mention having to wait longer for a kids meal to be re done after they got it wrong. Drinks took a life time, we had cold chips and the chicken ceasar salad was horrible... watery chicken and burnt bacon bits. The fire nearly smoked us out. They were very limited in drink choices, even though it was on their menu. Meals had cold chips. Orders were mixed up. We had to wear our jackets inside due to coldness. To their credit the staff discounted all our meals but I'd never eat there again, not with so many other options.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Vanessa a, all feedback is extremely valuable to us to be able to improve and grow. There was indeed a few issues on the night you dined, and we were caught off guard by the influx of people travelling to Queenstown while we still had a reduced post-lock down roster. We contacted a member of your group the day after to try and get to the root of the problem and have since upped our staffing levels and fixed our upstairs heating issue. We apologize that these things affected your night with us, we would love the chance to look after you again and show you the great service and food we are known for! Thanks again for your feedback, The Lone Star Team

Perfect venue for our group of 8 comprising of 2 families. Relaxed atmosphere with a pool table for the teenagers to occupy themselves which was ideal, and meant we could order that extra bottle of wine to enjoy. Can't fault the service - we had a fabulous waitress called Sophie who went out of her way to ensure our highly allergic guest was looked after. Even though it was school holiday busy it was relaxed and everything came out promptly. The only thing that lets this place down is that the food itself is just very average - we all had different meals but they pretty much tasted the same - the steak wasn't cooked with a lovey crust that you expect when you're paying around $40, and the chicken was just bland. The ribs were overly sweet and too chewy for slow cooked ribs and the mounds of potatoes were again pretty tasteless. It wasn't a cheap night so it was disappointing to be so underwhelmed by the food.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review Bricarooni, all feed back is very valuable to us so we can improve and grow. Its good to hear you enjoyed the service from our friendly staff, but its a shame to hear the food didn't live up to your expectations. We have a large and varied menu so there is usually something for everyone to enjoy. We are known especially for our Ribs and Steak dishes, and the manager and head chef do nightly tastings to make sure everything is at its best and most flavorsome. We also train our front of house staff to conduct regular meal checks through out the night so if there are any issues we can fix them easily and swiftly on the night. I am sorry if these protocols were not followed when you dined with us, we would love to have you back in the restaurant to show you how delicious our food usually is. Thanks again for your feedback, The Lone Star Team

Lone Star Queenstown is located right in the middle of town, so it is a great meal before any other activities at night or if you are staying at a hotel nearby. They have a great menu with a wide range of food that will have something for everyone. Unfortunately we did not have the best experience with Lone Star Queenstown. We had booked weeks in advance but were put in a corner table upstairs that felt like it was one of the last tables they had. We put in the reservation that we had a young child but they still sat us next to one of the speakers which was incredibly loud. Also in this corner was a broken window that let cold air in. Their response to this was "well our maintenance guy didn't show up to fix it", not solution was offered. Again, you've sat young children next to a cold, open window, not great. On top of that a large party was occurring upstairs too, and it felt like we were intruding on that. We had a rather early booking to try to avoid things like this. The food was not much better. We frequently go to other Lone Stars and were expecting the same quality but everything was a step below. I ordered my usual ribs and they came out dry with less than half the sauce you would normally expect from them, and no finger dipping bowls. My fiance commented that her chicken wasn't anywhere near as good as it usually is. When our deserts came out they were lukewarm at best. Not to mention the extremely long wait times for all of our food. It was a rather disappointing experience, Lone Stars in other locations have set the bar higher for us and this simply did not live up to their standards.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review ChrisNZontheroad, all and any feedback is really important to us to be able to improve and grow. I am sorry the table you were sat at wasn't to your liking, we try our best to make sure everyone is comfortable and relaxed when they dine with us and it is never a problem to turn down the music or move a group to another table if we have one available. The ribs are one of our classic dishes and bring guests coming back year after year (as you must know as it sounds like they are a favorite of yours) and we strive to keep a consistent quality and taste. We train all our staff to go straight to the maitre'd or manager if we hear a request/ food complaint like this so we can fix it straight away, but it definitely doesn't seem like this happened in your case as our managers would never respond with an excuse about a handyman, and could easily have fixed any issues with your food - I apologize that this didn't happen for you and that it effected your night so much - we will retrain all staff in this protocol so it dosent happen in the future. Thanks again for your feedback, we would love to have you back in for dinner again so we can look after you properly and deliver some of our tasty ribs. Management

We ordered two mains and two kids meal fish n chips for the kids. Fish and chips the fish was so dried that my son usually eats anything refuse to eat it. I ordered Dixie chicken. Which once was a great dish, last night it was overcooked and dry, not much sauce at all. The buffalo chips were overcooked as well. The salad was the best part of the dish. My wife ordered a chicken salad without the poached egg but it came with egg and it wasn't very good either. I am surprised, we go to lonestar at least 5 times per year and last night it was awful. The place was quite no many people there, but I felt that we were pushed out. They took the dishes of my kids and wife away but I was still eating. The brought the bill and we were still eating. Very disappointed with Lonestar.. it used to be great.. food quality and service has dropped quite a lot.

We were having dinner a few days ago and man, it was totally overbooked. Tasty food (congrats to the chef) but took a while to be on the table, you could see the servers running all over the place. Good trying to keep the business open, but you shouldn't compromise the service. Another big thing: anybody besides the chef should be touching the food. My table had view to the pass and I saw -no sure if it was the manager or waiter- touching/fixing a plate. WE ARE IN COVID TIMES PEOPLE. Thank God wasn't my plate.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review Gian Rossi, its good to hear that you enjoyed the food. The school Holidays were an extremely busy time for the whole of Queenstown, and we were so happy to see the restaurant booked out every night! Our front of house staff do not touch the food just the plates to carry them to the tables, but on busy nights we have a food co - coordinator who works closely with the kitchen to get the food out to all three floors of our restaurant, and is counted as one of the kitchen staff. However it would still be extremely rare for him to actually touch the food, his job is to direct the kitchen and food runners, and to make sure orders are plated correctly. He often cleans the sides of the plates with single use paper napkins to make sure they look pretty for our valued guests, so perhaps this is what you witnessed him doing. We are following all Covid 19 protocols, routinely sanitizing and cleaning all areas of the venue, our staff are trained for these procedures and we have added them into our Safe Food Plan, so rest assured the safety of our guests in this time is paramount. Please come see us again soon for another tasty meal, The Lone Star Team

We dined here on 16/07/21 and had to wait an hour for food that came out below average. Due to the long wait we were offered a free round of drinks which we ended up having to pay for. I ordered the prawn star and it was so oily I vomited in the bathroom before we left the restaurant.

Nice place located at the end of a walking street. Ordered tenderloins for my wife and myself. Taste was good BUT the meet cut was terrible. About 20% of the steak of 200g was uneatable due to sinew and fat. When we pointed it out to the waitress we just got a ”sorry for that...” Since the redwine juice we ordered for sauce was a bit small, we asked for a small addition. Surprised when they had added some NZD on the bill for that.

Dear JanneEriksson, we are very sorry to hear about your experience. The Lone Star is famous for it's steaks and we get a lot of fantastic feedback for them. We choose only the best and most trusted suppliers for our high quality NZ beef. However, mistakes or in this case a steak that doesn't live up to our usual standard can happen but it is easily fixed. Our staff and managers are all trained to meal check tables promptly and straight away find a solution for a meal that is not up to scratch. In this case the waitress should have straight away ordered you a new meal or offered you a replacement free of charge. We have taken the time to investigate why this did not happen and have retrained all our front of house staff and reminded them of how important this is. We apologize dearly for this incident and would like to ensure you that is not the standard of food or service we aim for. We hope that we will get a second chance to look after you and show you a true Lone Star experience with great enthusiastic service and delicious meals. Kind regards, The Team at the Lone Star Queenstown.

Went here for dinner tonight and I must say it was probably the most slap dashed meal I have ever had. I am not one to usually complain or write reviews but as I’m a chef myself I had to let you know how bad it was. First off we had a small stuff around with our order which was then fixed up right away with some good service by 2 males. We then had our entrees, squid was very good and fresh but super soggy, for main we had a steak which was cooked great, but the Dixie chicken which was our other main was basically having a chicken breast and coleslaw smothered in an over powered sauce which huge parsley leaves all through it. It was uneatable... We also had the crispy cauliflower as a side which the bigger pieces were amazing but half the bowl was just charcoaled pieces of batter, and the oil was definitely dirty. To top that off, the waitress that we had in the end, could tell that we had barely touched our food and still didn’t bother to question how our meals were which usually doesn’t happen. Some good service for the price you pay would have been nice. Definitely has potential as it’s such a beautiful quiet place but the foods a bit of a joke for $120, never again.

Hi emilymX9117DO, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your dinner with us. We pride ourselves with high quality food paired with top notch service to offer our valued guests a unique and outstanding dinner experience. Therefore it is very disappointing to hear that we let a valued guest down. I did gather as much information as I could from that evening, speaking to all the staff who were working / looking after you. The gentleman taking out your food and checking on you multiple times that evening was the owner. He would not have allowed the food to go out if it wasn't right. We had only very positive feedback from all our tables that evening. I understand that you weren't happy with the meal you received, I would like to point out that nothing is a problem here at the Lone Star and we are always happy to replace meals, re-make them etc. if something isn't quite right, that is the reason for our meal-checks. Next time please inform us straight away if something isn't the way you like it and we will get that fixed for you. If you would like to contact me directly please feel free to send me an email qtmarketing@lonestar.co.nz Kind regards, Natalija

Had dinner here while in Queenstown and enjoyed our food and the service. My wife tried the local fish and really liked it (it was on the daily special menu) and I tried the ribs and they were great. Especially the sauce as it was a bit unique and really good. The Kumara chips were good as a side and my wife had the veggies and liked them as well. The server/host who seated us and served us was a lot of fun.. Very friendly and helpful.

We took out my husbands mum with our family of 4 on Friday night, she loves Lonestar and we hadn’t been in a while. Service was fast, really friendly with the kids and quick to bring their food out which is always appreciated. One of the waiters was a little hard to understand but he was very pleasant and happy so we just smiled and nodded. Meals were good, normal Lonestar standard, and they were checking for drinks and needs regularly. Always a little noisey in there but I think it’s just the acoustics of the room. Overall a nice meal out and reasonable. Thanks team :)

Enjoyed our meal. Wasn't expecting a whole loaf when having garlic bread but it did say loaf on the menu! I really enjoyed the Dixie chicken and it was all served quite quickly by friendly staff. It is a good restaurant for families, groups or couples and has quite a buzzy atmosphere but not too noisy.
