Tatsumi is a must visit when in Queenstown. The food is absolutely superb! Wonderful service and ambiance.
We visit Queenstown regularly and always make sure we have a meal at Tatsumi. Wonderful quality food, presented in an art form. On our recent visit we had the set menu which I would highly recommend - every dish was outstanding including the fabulous sashimi. Pricing is reasonable for the quality of ingredients and the preparation involved in preparing it to such a high standard.

We ordered the menu of chef's signature dishes for four. Wave after wave of exquisitely presented fresh food was placed in front of us on a variety of special plates. For me it is one of the best meals I have ever had in my home town of decades. I will go back.

We went there for dinner. The menu is limited and not the usual Japanese menu but their food is exquisite. The sushi was exceptional, standard in portion. And the kid's meal I ordered for my child is in fact the same size as our adult meals, so well worth the cost. We got comfortable sofa sittings.

We enjoyed the $75 set menu which was worth every cent. The food was extremely fresh, beautifully presented & absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. The Zenkuro ‘All black’ locally brewed sake was wonderful. Our only negative comment is that we arrived at 6.15pm & our dessert was served by 7.30 so it seemed a little rushed & was a short time to eat 8 courses! However we would still love to come back & the food was definitely 10/10.

Tatsumi deserves the accolade reviews it receives. Everything about this place lives up to expectations. We had the Chefs set menu which took us through so many varieties of dishes and at $75 this is really good value. i loved the hot towels when we were seated and staff were informative amd attentive.

We had booked this restaurant to mix things up a bit after having eaten a lot of meat in the days prior. Tatsumi did not disappoint with delicious oysters and sashimi served up and a washed down with sake (try the local Queenstown sake). Service was superb! Well worth a vist.

We ordered dinner through food on q. After looking at the Menu we were sold! It arrives, the beef tetaki is full of flavour, the chicken leaves you wanting more and more. We also ordered the miso ramen, which we didn't have high hopes for being delivered. BUT WOW!

I really wanted to like this place but things did not start out well.
We made a reservation last week that was finally confirmed two days ago because they only confirm reservations for the prepaid pre-fixe menu. I assume this is because it is their highest margin menu option.
When we arrived at 8pm, I asked if we could sit at a different, more comfortable table but was told this was the table we were assigned and could not move. I found this odd because the restaurant had only 4 tables occupied and they closed at 9pm. Only 2 other guests arrived after us and were given very nice tables.
Next, we were not approached for close to 20 minutes for a drink order, and in the interim, the two tables that were seated after us, both ordered drinks and then dinner.
The salads, that arrived 55 minutes after we were seated, were fresh but still very average.
We ordered a whole crayfish (lobster) to be prepared sashimi style but were told later, this item was not available.
The sushi rolls were just okay. The Spider roll's softshell crabs breading was a bit gummy and the cucumbers were old.
We also ordered Salmon and Wagyu Nigiri. Both had a strong butane flavor which is an indication of poor technique coupled with a low torch. Not good!
The ironic part of the meal was the gnocchi with shrimp. It was the best item we had. Still just okay, but good in comparison. We would not have normally ordered gnocchi but it was a last minute replacement for the crayfish sashimi.
There are several other restaurants in Queenstown that are fabulous. This is just not one of them.

Tatsumi is a Japanese fusion restaurant on Beach Street right in the heart of Queenstown. Bluff oysters were in season and I ordered them tempura-fried. They were sublime. Polenta bites with wasabi aioli was next and it arrived with the fried polenta rectangles stacked like a Rubik’s cube. The wasabi in the aioli was a bit too mild for my tastes. I also ordered Spicy Tuna and Mango sushi. It was humongous! I could have stopped there but I had already ordered the tempura King Prawns which came with a broth-like sauce, wasabi (which was perfectly strong), yuzu salt, and curry salt. Overall, the meal was excellent. It was a lot of food but it was reasonably priced for the quality and quantity. The service was outstanding.

We dined here for my cousins birthday dinner. We ordered the Chef's Set Menu, I didn't know what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We savoured every single dish that was presented to us by our host & waiter who was super hospitable

3 of us shared the various dishes we selected including edamame, king prawn tempura, Philadelphia roll, soft shell crab and the assorted sashimi plate, chicken kara-age and the spare ribs. Everything was of a very high standard and all dishes got the thumbs up from all three of us. We were tempted into sharing the citrus catalana and the green tea fondant and we were glad we did.
The ambience was lovely and service was efficient and friendly. Overall a most enjoyable meal, if a little expensive but we will return.

This has to be up there with the best meal we’ve had in Queenstown. We chose the set menu for four and they were happy to change one item out for us. All the food was amazing. The drinks were awesome and the service also fantastic. Highly recommend.

Liked this place so much we went twice over four days. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff really were paying attention and looking after us. It is quite a relaxed atmosphere serving top food and backed up with a very comprehensive beverage selection. Strongly recommend this place a restaurant to go for special Japanese meal.

We had a really lovely meal this evening- the salmon and tuna sashimi was perfect, scallops cooked in a miso beurre sauce were delicate and beautifully seared. Everything was delicately presented. The prawn tempura were standout ( so much so, we ordered another portion) and the staff were charming and helpful. A really great dining option and n busy Queenstown

My favorite restaurant in Queenstown. Perfect for a date or celebrate a special occasion since the price is higher than a typical Japanese restaurant but it's worth it.
Service was great and the food was delicious. Each and every dish of this restaurant has been carefully crafted to give you the best taste without losing the Japanese authenticity.
Highly recommended their Hokkaido scallops, Grilled eel nigiri sushi and their tapas. Amazing food.
Definitely come back again.
