We got a set menu as we had a large group. The set menu was basic, no entree. I got the fish which was sole fillet (very cheap fish) Took 1 1/2hrs for our dinners to come out then another 30mins for desert, the desert was a bit of a let down, canned strawberries when they are in season :(... More

The table was reserved, but the service was slow... it was the waiters first night but he didn't know a thing. The meal prices were expensive but the decor was not. The menu was complex and flavoursome but the food was not. I enjoyed my salmon but my partners seafood chowder was disappointing.

We accidentally passed this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Well, we had a very warm welcome and were surprises by the interior. It is such a nice space to sit. But more importantly: the food ! Our very friendly waitress explained the whole menu and gave us a sample of the beers they brew themselves. We had... More

We had a good dinner at Plato - it comes with high praise - my dinner was slightly over powered by the sauce it was served in. But I would still recommend the place. Great to discover there beer -awesome Pilsner.

Pleasant food, good service. Did not mind the decor, there was plenty to look at. Quite quirky. Glad we booked .

Fine dining prices and fine food, our waiter even had a french accent, unfortunately i think the decor and the whole atmosphere in the restaurant doesnt match with the menu. Could've been better.

A group of 10 of us were visiting from BOP for a sports event in Dunedin. Earlier in the day the owner of the Portobello Hotel recommended Plato to our group for dinner. We're glad he did! A great variety of fresh seafood meals with the no one in our group disappointed at all. To top the night off they... More

I had dinner here last week. I was away on a business trip with two colleagues, one of whom choose this restaurant for dinner. It took a bit of finding but was well worth the effort. The decor is quirky - reflecting an eclectic interest/passion for collecting coffee pots and an array of other china/pottery figurines. The collection provides plenty... More

What a fabulous place. The food is largely fish, with great sides and a really good wine list. The decor alone, 70's coffee pots!, is worth a trip. You arrive and are faced with the Seamans Mission - take heart, you are in the right place, go through the door and turn right.

It said that the closing time is 00:00, but today when we arrived the Plato it was 2150 something, the waiter told us that the kitchen already closed at 2130 only left dessert, very disappointed for the inaccurate information from tripadvisor

Yoda858, Manager at Plato, responded to this review

Our deepest apologies for the inaccurate information on the trip advisor page. We normally close the kitchen around 9/930pm or after the last table has ordered. If dinning after 830pm at night it is a good idea to phone us. We hope you will return to try our cuisine in the future. Kind regards More
