We chose the elephant fish as we do not like strong tasting fish. The fish was a bit dry, which was a bit disappointing as we tried the same fish at a fish and chip shop in Greymouth and loved it. If you are after a meal that is good value for money though, this is th Place to go.

Staying at a B&B down the road we were recommended Ric's. I had the blue cod in batter and my wife, baked cod with one portion of chips.cooked freshly and tasted delicious. We really pushed the boat out and had a ginger beer and cloudy lemonade from the shop next door which turned out to cost two dollars less than... More

Blue cod and chips were cooked excellently without any excess fat or batter. Very tasty fish at a very reasonable price. Good food, good price!

It's clear Ric loves making and serving food. You can even taste this! A cheery fellow with a great sense of humour, enjoy the wait. Ric has filled his little shop with lots of amusing and entertaining reading and viewing. Best fish n chips in NZ, for sure!

We stayed in Portabello over Christmas and eagerly awaited the reopening of Ric's Fish and Chips. We were not disappointed. We ordered Blue Cod baked in lemon, accompanied by chips. It was all so delicious and a welcome change from fish cooked in batter or breadcrumbs. Ric was super friendly and service as fast. Highly recommend.

Fresh fish, baked as well as fried, impeccable and friendly service, and crisp chips. Go early as Ric often closes by 8pm. Try the tarahiki if you are new to NZ, it is delicious.
