The Speights Ale House was a pleasant surprise. The pub had a great atmosphere with the locals & visitors were all enjoying themselves. i had the lamb shank, which was nicely cooked & a generous portion washed down with a couple of pints of Pilsner. I would recommend a visit.

This place was close to,our motel so we wandered in one night. I had the calamari which was amazing - really tasty and not chewy like some other places I've been to. Great selection of beers as you would expect. Friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Came here as it was handy to where we were staying. Always a bit dubious of a restaurant menu that has pages and pages! There were four of us dining, meals were average at best. The service was dreadful, during the evening we had a variety of staff delivering food and drinks. Not one of them spoke to us. A... More

I ordered one of the signature dishes, pork spare ribs. and I loved the BBQ sauce they used, smoky and tangy. The meat came off the bones very easily, but was so tough and chewy. In this case, having 2 out of 3 criteria met was not so good, I like my rib meat tender and easily chewed!

I went for a drink on a Monday night and ended up playing in the weekly pub quiz. Free to enter and a lot of fun!

We chose to ate here after struggling to find a restaurant that had space for a booking and / or represented value. We found in our short stay that dinner menus in Christchurch featured more mains north of $35 and $40 than south; I'm beginning to think this might be a pattern throughout the country. Hence we went here. No... More

As part of a large group we had a good night. The meals were very good.with my burger excellent and my partners liver and bacon pronounced great with dark gravy and mash. Others had salads, wraps, curry etc and all were very good. The steak had to be sent back as it was overcooked but a new meal was provided... More

Went for lunch today and waited 20+ mins for flat bread. After asking, where is it, it and our main came out. Then I went to the toilet. I checked out all cubicals settling on what I hoped was the cleanest, it was filthy. Toilets gross with broken seats. First and last time. Service far too slow. And being called... More

Went here for a few drinks with my dad while in Christchurch. Large Pub/Bar/restaurant. Nicely laid out we were drinking the Speights Cider most of the day. After a fair few drinks we got abit hungry so we had a 2 person Beef Roast Dinner to share. It was a large piece of meat with a good portion of veg... More
