We visited last week, while on holiday from UK. My husband and I ordered the The Cook Straight Catch ! What a dish ! Superb fish dish, the best I have ever tasted, and I am well travelled. My husband agreed. All our party agreed that the food was amazing. We sat outside, it was windy but the views were... More

Maranui Surf Lifesaving Cafe is always buzzing with people. I love the views over Lyall Bay (although I still haven't managed to get a seat by the window) and the quirky and cosy interior. The food is solidly good and reliable but nothing out of the ordinary. If you're coming at the weekend either get here early or be prepared... More

The popularity of Maranui is underscored by the seemingly endless turnover of people. A visit here is casino-like so stack the odds in your favor and visit at a likely quieter time. Table turnover is reasonably quick but if the queue reaches the street I'd pass. The food is delightful. My Mexican take on a small portion of local fish... More

I love this cafe and usually have breakfast three days a week when in Wellington. It has fantastic views south and on a real neighbourhood beach. The menu is what I would describe as inspired kiwiana as is the decor. The coffee is usually excellent - it has to be to survive in the competitive world of Wellington coffee. Try... More

I've been coming to here for many years, and as a vegetarian there are many delicious options that can also be made vegan! My favourite is the breaker bay beans without the chorizo, (and without sour cream for vegan), the vegetarian breakfast or the Maranui magic mushrooms. They also do great coffee with soy and almond milk!

Called in for Sunday brunch - arriving just ahead of the rush. Waited 5 or so mins for a table and were warned that the kitchen delay was about 40 mins - which it was. But it was worth the wait. Tasty, fresh, well presented food. Good, friendly service. Nice ambience and views. Later discovered 2% surcharge on our bill... More

The Maranui Cafe is a Wellington iconic cafe, a must visit when you are in Welly. Located right on Lyall Bay above the legendary Maranui Surf Lifesaving club and it is home to beach goers and the locals. This place has been packed every time I've visited so plan accordingly. We ordered several different items from the breakfast menu. My... More

It's the best. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great location. Great food. I come to this cafe all the time and it's always excellent. It's a mainstay of the Wellington food scene.

What a place! Really nice surf club feel with a beach view. Got the beans and they were fantastic. Reasonably priced and the coffee is good... highly recommended!
