Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The atmosphere was wonderful with the old photos and history notes. The place really came alive. Our waiter was just wonderful. Friendly, helpful, professional and highly efficient. Great list of drinks. Interesting but classical menu. The food came out super quick. It looked great, was...cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic in the mouth. We chose the Scallops and Black Pudding as a main and Fish and Chips that were the best I have eaten for years. The batter was so fine, the fish was moist and the chips were crisp and non oily. Unfussy but perfect. We shared a Date Pudding dessert with whisky caramel sauce and ice cream. A different version to the usual offerings and was absolutely delicious. They served complimentary sparkling water. It was a great find and would highly recommend to anyone.More

As always staff were very attentive and food was fabulous. Pan-seared fish and duck fried potatoes...yum yum. It was a bonus that there was a Jazz group performing. I am never disappointed at the Thistle Inn.

We dined with friends at this pub on a recent trip to Wellington. We were not disappointed with the menu, drinks or service. The fish and chips was tasty and delicious. The local craft beer was very good too. We sat in a secluded part...of the pub which was quiet and great for catching up with friends. We had a great time and would happily return.More

Atmosphere in a light room was nice. Staff were very helpful, cheerful and efficient. Great service. Food was so-so; small helpings, a plate of fish with lemon and 2 capers, a few chips in a basket. Where was the salad? Cost of $35 - I...guess we were paying for Wellington, not the food!More

The food was amazing - especially the lamb rump. The waiter was under the pump as they may have been short staffed - so service was a little slow- but the waiter was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Our meals were a...bit delayed and they gave our table of 11 free deserts - which was very generous. They too were superb. I would certainly go back there but maybe with a large group not so good. But food and service was impeccable.More

Its a while since I reviewed this place and it has become a firm favourite in the sense that it has vastly improved its dining spaces and it sticks to a true pub grub (but done really well) type fare. We had been before Christmas...and we got a voucher for a free something so we returned with our friends and got the free bowl of truffle fries and once again I had the fish (gurnard) and chips and this time the Cos salad was Cos (it wasn't pre-Christmas) and nicely finished with parmesan and dressing. The portions were hueh and I took leftovers home. (I reckon they should try doing half portions for the less hngry eater!). Drinks, I had a bubbles and I wish I got the summer cocktail of Limoncello and bubbles (reall nice). They also have Bogle Chardonnay by the glass. Our table also got some Cheesy garlic bread and mains were, the flank steak with onion rings and a brisket burger as well as 2 x F & C's. The service is excellent and food very nicely done. I am very fond of this place and look for opportunites to dine here. There are multiple dining spaces and particularly nice is the interior heritage room on the ground floor which is very cosy in winter if it is available. Highly recommended!More
