We would just like to acknowledge the amazing dining experience we had at Salt, New Plymouth for dinner. Locals may think its too posh and out of their range, think again for a true dining experience and value for money, Salt delivers. From the time you are seated through to the service and food everything was impeccable. We had entrée, main and desert and every dish was top quality. The presentation, flavour combinations were A1. I ordered the beef steak, "Blue" and they delivered, always a very testing order for some but it melted in your mouth quality and flavour. It would be remiss of me not to mention the wait staff with whom I challenged however they rose to the occasion and didn't miss a beat, observing them working the tables and meeting the requests of the diners with charm and professionalism. No matter if you were dining as "first table" guests or large groups all the staff were attentive and appeared to give everyone impeccable service. As discerning dinners we could not fault our experience at all. Even the coffee was tops, the cocktail specials were exquisite.
As a frequent diner for their breakfasts we had high expectations for dinner and they delivered. Compliments to the Chefs, wait staff and management.
Salt, New Plymouth delivers "on point".

High tea at Salt Restaurant was an absolute delight! The beautifully crafted sweet and savory bites were a feast for the senses, complemented by warm and attentive service. Nestled by the waterfront, the serene views and perfect weather created an elegant and relaxing ambiance. We are regular dinners at Salt and for good reason. They are one of the best fine dining restaurants in New Plymouth. They have amazing views out to the sea which sets the mood for a great dining experience. We were welcomed in by proffesional staff dressed for the part. Smart casual, in their white tops and blue aprons. We were seated at a window seat to enjoy the view. Without being rushed we were offered water and then drinks. The menus were their for us to start looking at. Their new menu has something for everyone and all dietary requirements are catered for. I had the lamb shoulder and my partner the market fish, with a side order of vegetables. Both meals came out well presented and my lamb dish was a very big portion. Glad we did not have entrees as it would have been too much for us. Maybe next time. We did endulge in dessert. I had the pineapple carpaccio which was light and refreshing and partner had the bread and butter pudding which is a long time favourite here, which has been brought back by public demand. I can not speak more highly of the staff. Front of house and kitchen staff making it a truely enjouable evening experience. This is a fine dining experience and the prices reflect that, but you are truely getting what you pay for. for those that want to try it for a first time then do book thru First Table to see what you think. That's what its there for. Many thanks to FOH staff Honeyfa, Michael, and Kate for looking after us. I highly reccommend this restaurant for amazing meals, proffesional staff service and an amazing location. We will be back soon.

Having been offered special cocktails - Devilled Margaritas, two of us chose them and one close a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Our meal orders were taken at the same time. About 20 minutes later the entrees arrived but still no drinks. When we asked, the waiter said they didn’t have the tequila that was required and were trying to find something else. After 1/2 hour the drinks arrived. The margarita bore no resemblance to a margarita and was very small. We were told they would be at a reduced price.
The meal was served nicely although the duck was a little overcooked. The fish was perfect.
When the crème brûlée was served it came with a large soup spoon. When asked for a dessert spoon an equally large dessert spoon was delivered. The dessert itself was very nice.
The decor is tired and shabby to the extent that the chairs are tatty and splitting.
The total bill was $333.00 for 2 entrees, 3 mains, 1 dessert, 2 margaritas and 2 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. The margaritas were $23.00 each. When reminded of the discount, the waiter checked with the duty manager who reduced the price to $22.0 each!!
As residents of New Plymouth we have been long time supporters of Salt but not any longer.

The great views and well presented food were overshadowed by the shabby furniture and the staff who constantly reminded us that the kitchen was closing at 8.45!
Our booking was for 7pm and we had arranged to met at 6.30pm for a drink on the deck first. As we were sitting down we were told that the kitchen was closing at 8.45 and the bar at 9pm. This was reiterated several more times during our meal and then we were asked to finish our drink and leave at 9.15pm. Embarrassing for us as locals hosting out of town guests who were also staying in the Hotel. The food itself was beautifully presented and all our meals were lovely but we would not recommend coming here for an occassion.

I called the restaurant early December to make a booking for Xmas Dinner and was told I was all booked for 6pm Dec 25 for a 5 course meal value at $135 each.
I called on the day just to confirm the time and was told there was no booking!
We got an apology and offered a buffet that night for $70 each, so as there was nowhere else open we decided to take it - gutted though
On arrival at the restaurant we found it hard to get anyones attention so had to go looking for someone to show us where our table was etc!
The house manager came and explained that the person who had taken the booking had now left and they had a number of missed bookings.
They did however offer us a free glas of wine!
We glanced around and saw what the meal was like, took a look at the buffet and decided not to stay, it looked like tired ham, very little choice and probably could get better at the eatery in the mall!
Really disappointed on missing out on a nice meal but above that the staff were very casual and the food looked incredibly average!!
We had had this restaurant recommended to us but certainly would not go back

The chicken dish was very salty, loaded with salt brined olives and only party cooked (still raw) brockley presented on the dish. The others in our party enjoyed their meals. The website did not reflect the menu on offer on this evening , does not include the sides selection and prices are a lot higher than than posted on the website.Perhaps a reflection of the lack of clientèle on this evening. Seating looked shabby and worn for a restaurant that prides itself as first class. Service was great. There are other restaurants that offer a better selection and price - shop around.

We have been to salt on numerous occasions and can highly recommend them for consistent meals, service and hospitality. The location is amazing especially for a special dinner occasion and the wait staff are very attentive without being over bearing. We will be back again for another amazing meal and look forward to the great service .

Over priced and small meals . Took ages to get out mains. While meat was tender my son had to get a dessert so he wouldn’t go home hungry . When paying before leaving was served by a very rude arrogant guy with no people skills whatsoever. No eye contact was made and looked over our head the whole time we were all paying for our meals . Definitely would not go back as would need a trip to McDonald’s after !

OK I never thought it possible but the Lamb Curry was literally the best I've ever eaten, and I'm of Indian descent!! The front of house staff were on fire, and the entire restaurant simply oozes class. Salt Restaurant should be added as the 8th wonder of the world, highly, highly recommended.

The food and the service was so very good. We ordered the miso eggplant that's one of our entrees, the entire family loved it and was our favorite. Chicken and lamb were so tender as well. The service was over the top thanks to mr. Vivek for personally accommodating us and Senthil for personally asking us about everything.

We were seated at table for our booking by waitress who simply never came back. We had numerous staff attend people either side of us but no one came to our table. After about 10minutes my husband had to get up & walk over to where 3 staff were gathered talking & ask for a wine list which was duly delivered. We eventually received a drink after 19minutes of being seated at out table. After about 25 minutes we got up yet again to ask for water which other tables received on being seated, they were also even offered sparkling water. There were 4 wait staff plus barman who visited tables beside us but never were we attended to. Our mains were absolutely delicious well done to the chefs, which was all we ordered in the way of food plus two glasses of wine each as we felt totally invisible the entire time we were there. The two glasses of wine ordered to have with our main meal sadly arrived just as we were finishing our meal. The final straw was when waitress came to ask if she could take our pre dinner wine glasses away and we asked if she could also take our empty plates away. We were never offered the menu for dessert and so we left feeling very unwelcome.

Passing through New Plymouth on a North Island adventure with my partner for our anniversary. We were told to come visit Salt on the Waterfront as a must. We were not disappointed. When we arrived the staff made such a fuss about our celebration, cute helium balloons and bubbles on arrival, we felt very special. Our food was beautiful, we had three courses our host described each meal with passion. Thank you to everyone, we will be sure to return and tell all our friends and family.

Don’t bother, $40 pork belly worst I’ve ever had dry bland and no crackle left all 3 pieces on the plate and charged full meal and wasn’t asked what I thought of it when we paid. Lamb was stingy better today get Uber eats but I can cook better at home. You will need side dishes as the portions are small and prices high. Won’t be back again. Very disappointed extremely poor handling of our account at the end. $150 bill. Avoid the chicken pate also. Garlic bread was good.

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday as it has, by far the best food in New Plymouth. The surroundings are elite and the service 2nd to none. The specially catered a 3 course meal to suit some very particular dietary requirements at a great price. The function room overlooked the ocean with beautiful back ground music. My 50th was so special, with the friendly, efficient and professional staff. This restaurant is a must for all visitors and locals who have discerning taste. A classy resturant with exceptional food. Thank you for making my 50th special and a memory I will cherish for years to come.
