I've been there on the last Valentine's day, when all restaurants were busy. We asked for sashimis, makimonos, pork jelly and crab - the crab is AMAZING. Good place for dinner, drink something.

I eat Japanese food as often as i can and live in Auckland. I was looking forward to this after work and after being offered a taster of the dark Asahi i settled to the menu and ordered Edamame (noted as steamed and salted on the menu). The waitress service was not good and she struggled with English but ok... More

First he asked for a sample of Asahi black lager which was given to him after which the customer ordered a glass. This beer was... More

Kura is close to theatres, Aotea Centre and Town Hall, with parking easy under the Aotea Centre. Three of us went for dinner on a busy Saturday night, but we had booked, so our table was available. In Japanese style we sat on floor cushions, but with our feet in a pit below the table. There are tables and chairs,... More

We were planning to go to the restaurant next door which I had been to and really enjoyed but it was full so we wandered down the road and down the stairs to Kura. We were immediately happy with our choice the atmosphere was brilliant and beautiful. The food was a match to the space and I would definitely make... More

I was taken to Kura by a colleague and it was an excellent choice! The door to the main road is easy to miss - and you walk down a flight of stairs to the bar. Very fresh sashimi - lovely presentation and overall very tasty. We had a sashimi platter, miso soup, and spider crab sushi, and cooked salmon... More

First off, the entrance is a bit weird - you have to take external stairs to the second floor. That's ok. But once you get in, it's a great place. It has a lot of character and the food is really good.

Nice yummy food - they get that we need to be finished in order to get to the theatre near by. The buttress wall that forms the eastern wall of the restaurant is really cool

First time visitors with friends. A great experience from having to remove your shoes to sit on the floor, to the range of sake and beer available, to the excellent food. Would go again. Had a great entertaining evening.

Kura is modern fusion Japanese. We do all the favourites like sushi, tempura and teriyaki but sometimes with a little twist.
