Quite simply the best meal we have ever eaten! My husband and I opted for the 7 course degustation menu - which is more like 11 once you’ve had the complimentary snacks pre dinner and petit fours post dinner! This being said, we left feeling...‘happy full’ as opposed to the uncomfortable feeling you have when you overeat. Every dish was sublime, from the fusion of flavours and textures to the presentation. Each portion was just enough and each dish was like a taste explosion! We dined on a Thursday evening which, particularly post-Christmas, was probably a quiet evening. However, this made the experience far more intimate. Our wait-staff were sensational. Not only were they extremely knowledgable about the food they really made us feel important without feeling overwhelmed. This is not a restaurant you go to if you are looking for a quick, budget friendly meal. It is a place where the whole dining experience should be enjoyed and we did not grudge the bill at the end. We look forward to returning to The Grove for more special occasions and hope to share the experience with as many friends and family as we can. The Grove is a culinary experience everyone should enjoy at least once...but then you’re hooked!More

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Grove Pop Up at Donkey Bay Inn at Russell in the Bay of Islands last night. Right from the get go we were treated.... Nothing was too much trouble. The food and service was of the...best we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. So good to have The Grove in our hood. Thank you Michael and Team. Andreas was standout.More

Great place to have dinner on a special occasion. Easy to find The service and food is top notch. We had the 4 course digustation and every part off it was amazing. Such good flavors and something a little different in which we would never...try anywhere else. Staff were passionate about what they were doing which made the whole experience even better. Will definitely be returning again when we are next in Central Auckland.More

One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The food was incredible, the staff were friendly and knowledgable, and the wine pairing with our 7 course degustation took us around the world and back with some of the most delicious (and unusual) wines...I have tried.More

We have been meaning to eat here for years and our anticipation was justified. It was a generous meal with incredible attention to detail. The service is both polished and relaxed, the room delightful. The process was ceremonial with the 7 course degustation being revealed...as you ate. We did not have the wine match however sought advice on whether what wine would work from the upcoming courses from the staff. The wine list is exceptional with some seriously high end options. The four amuse bouche were tantalising and set the standard for what was to come. The courses included the best scampi I have ever had and perfectly cooked goat. The only minor issue was with the green pea ice-cream which was delicious but didn't in my view need the few raw green peas as a garnish that somehow lost their sweetness alongside the ice-cream and became too savory a contrast. However when you get down to that level of detail you know that you have had a real treat. This is a world class dining experience in every sense that is up with the best dining experiences we have had in major US and European cities. As a post script it would have been nice to have been offered the menu that we had just experienced at the end of the meal, I should have thought to ask.More

The Grove Mission Statement; “The Earth gives us food to nourish our bodies and we prepare the food with love to feed our souls and we serve it with compassion to make us whole.” -Le Tresor of Pistoulet (Extract taken from, The secrets of Pistoulet...by Jana Fayne Kolpen. Part cook-book, Part fiction a collection of letters and recipes.) St Patrick’s Cathedral Square & it surrounds is captivating a sense of calm/peace blocks out the noise from our busy city, & if you look to the skies you will be amazed by the view of the tallest buildings in the city & a exceptional view of the Sky Tower, worth an Instagram post. Owners Micheal & Annette Dearth established The Grove in 2004 Creating fine dining & the ultimate wine experience. Both moved from the States after falling in love with NZ clearly with a vision & knowledge of the hospitality industry, which has has expanded their business with yet another top Auckland Restaurant Baduzzi. What I found extremely satisfying about arriving into this venue is the host, so welcoming, polite, coat/shawl/bag taken if desired, placed safely away, as you are escorted to your table down a long narrow catwalk, you are able to appreciate the interior, the gold shiny globe light fixtures the artwork adorning the walls & touches of antique furnishings on display, Certainly reeks modern Art Deco sophistication. The tables are neat with spotless white cloths, a canvas done purposelessly I expect by Head Chef Ryan Moore, originally from the UK to showcase his creations of NZ produce/ingredients on a plate. Tonight we have chosen a 4 course degustation which our Head waiter announces, be prepared for a wonderful journey of fine dining cuisine. Also on service is Food & beverage manager Andrea Martinisi who is the Groves Sommelier, his knowledge of wine pairing with each course is explained & to the delight of My colleague satisfying, but be prepared to pay extra. 4 course degustation $125 Wine pairing $80 All tailored menus include a selection of snacks on arrival. (petit fours.) Miniature mushroom bao crispy onions Miniature crab & romaesco crumpet chicken skin Smoked concoction (cannot recall-only that it was delicious) Perfect baked sourdough bread & creamy liqueur butter Cambridge Asparagus Almond/Chilli/Monthelliarde cream fraiche Torched Ora King salmon scampi Tomato/Yuzu/Lovage sauce Waitaha Goat & Wagu: Pistachio/Goat cheese/Fig leaf Toasted Rice shards Jersey Milk/Koji/Green apple Pims mini ice-block. Presentation picture perfect we were already devouring each course with our eyes. Every course served in dramatic syncing by our waiters (Felt like Royalty) Portions, small but expected, gives you an appreciation to savour each bite, absolutely delicious & satisfying. Standing ovation to the mastery of the Chef. Cocktails surprise creations, refreshing & delicious recommend you throughly check out the beverage menu they are a delight. And don’t be afraid to ask for any recommendations as Staff are highly knowledgeable. Coffee hot & satisfying nice end to the evening. Staff; impeccable service well presented professionals who clearly in tune with the owners to make your experience an unforgettable one. Summary; Although this is a fine dining venue, Dress code does not require men to wear a dinner jacket or anyone to dress up. Rest rooms top notch with individual hand towels & expensive hand cream... let’s indulge! Menu changes frequently in regards to what produce is in season suggest check website or ring direct for more details. Great venue for any occasion but Not ideal for children. Payment, depending on group size can be made separate. Off street parking is a lottery so drive around to check before heading to a Wilson Car Park. Although expensive, Highly recommend this venue, it’s worth the experience at least once. Finally, from the extract taken from Le Tresor of Pistoulet by Jana Fayne Kolpen, we declare, “Our souls have been nourished & made whole.🥰 5/5More

My husband and I are big foodies, but thanks to our little one, we don't get the chance to dine out often anymore. It was therefore extra special to dine at the Grove and be blown away by the excellent service and food we received....If you're looking for a fantastic atmosphere, an owner-run operation, delicious food and a special night out, the Grove is the place to go. We appreciated the little details - amazing presentation, snacks on arrival, delicious mocktails made to order with fresh fruit. The owner himself greeted us on arrival and ensured all the tables (including us) were expertly taken care of, The meals are small and pricey, but they are gobsmackingly delicious. We LOVED our night out and can't wait to go back again.More

Hi Missjess8, This is a fine dining restaurant and not ideal for young children in my opinion.
