We had the signature menu (6 courses with matching wines). The food was lovely and we really enjoyed having 2 seafood and 2 meat dishes. The snapper ceviche and spiced calamari were particularly good.
Where I think Sails let themselves down a bit (and why...the 4-star rating) are: 1) the wine pairings (especially the first 2 dishes) were a bit of a miss, and 2) when the food was brought out, they didn't describe the dishes or describe the wines and why those wines were selected to go with those particular courses. Having just spent a long weekend at Hawke's Bay where the restaurants go to great lengths to describe the wines and how they complemented the food, it was noticeably absent.
But I repeat that the food was very enjoyable and I would certainly go back and recommend it to others. It also has the benefit of being easy to get to, easy to park, and offers the ability to stroll along the boardwalk afterwards.More
