I have never tried food from this region of the world. I wasn't sure what to expect. What i got was greatness on some kind of metal plate. So great that as far as my tastebuds are concerned, all other cuisines will now be considered dumpster trash.

It was an interesting experience eating at Cafe Abyssinia. It was quite quiet when we went, so the atmosphere was what you made of it and your company. We had made a booking a few days before, and were shown to a table, left to fend for our own a bit and after another table was served our order was... More

The location might not be ideal - far from the center and inside a soulless mini commercial building. But it is a true gem. An absolutely wonderful little restaurant with food to die for. It's one of the most unique culinary experiences in New Zealand - tasty, nutritious, filling and perfectly spiced up dishes served on massive soft African pancakes.... More

I'd never had the pleasure of savouring Ethiopian food before and what a pleasure it was! Friends travel from the other side of Auckland to dine here and invited us along. We were greeted so warmly on arrival. The dining area is light and colourful, the walls decorated with artwork, crafts and momentos from the hosts' home country. We chose... More

Really great food and service. I really enjoy going to this restaurant. Its family friendly and the food is as close to the real thing as possible. The only differences are the main ingredient teff which is not available in NZ so they have used rice flour instead which is ok....ish and the spiciness ... which is dubbed down to... More

The Injera bread was perfect which is the benchmark for a delicious feast of authentic Ethiopian dining. It is a fermented spongy sourghdough-like bread that is used to eat all of the "stews" The food "stews" (called wot) were uniquely spiced in a way that each item held its own distinctiveness and taste. We ordered take away the vegetarian combo... More

We lived 6 years in Ethiopia, and this is really authentic stuff! We make a point of eating here whenever we're in Auckland or passing through (We live in Wellington) - that's how much we like the food. We always order the dorowot (chicken wot) and kitfo (minced beef). Friendly staff who give me tips on how to make ethiopian... More

Best meal I've had in New Zealand! Great service and really delicious spicy curries that I want to learn how to make at home. I wish I was back in Auckland because I would eat there at least once a week

Lovely Ethiopian owners and great experience eating enjeera bread with delicious mains. Order the coffee in hand painted traditional earthenware pot, accompanied with matching and traditional incense. Excellent value.
