Took my wife into the city for our wedding anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. We were greeted at the door and taken to our table immediately the brought a menu and wine list- Started the night with an expensive but very nice cocktail (aviation) followed by fresh bread and olive oil and a wonderful appetizer - the crab chip. My wife has the spaghetti and I had the beef which was medium rare , small but wonderfully tender and two sides which were great value for money at $10 each- zucchini salad and potatoes side. Washed all this down with a lovely bottle of whistler shiver shiraz. At just over $100 per person we thought this was great value and would gladly return sometime in the future

This was my second and well anticipated visit to this excellent venue. The first was superb and so was this visit. The menu has just enough to be interesting without being overwhelming, innovative without being crazy. The service was first class, water delivered immediately and the spacing between courses and clearing tables was brilliant. As it was a birthday celebration too these was a special surprise. I can't recommend Shadow Wine Bar too highly.

Shadow Wine Bar should be full to bursting. Situated in the trendy Northbridge quarter of Perth's CBD, it is just 300m from the Perth train station and peeks out from under a vintage street awning amid an eclectic jumble of pubs, restaurants, hotels and quirky novelty shops. The first clue to Shadow's appeal is its presence behind an original 1960s commercial shopfront. On walking in, one is greeted by a large, open dining room bordered with comfortable booths and filled with tables of varying sizes. Lighting is subdued but lends an intimacy to an otherwise ambitious space. Service is friendly and efficient without being overbearing. The wine list is almost as expansive as the space with international wines matching if not dominating their Australian counterparts. It is a list for those who like to expand their wine experiences by the glass and the staff are commensurately knowledgeable. The menu is nothing less than brilliant. Although the choices might seem relatively few, they span a broad spectrum that would satisfy any diner. Our choices of the veal carpaccio and salmon rillette to start were judged to be absolutely perfect and were matched to a good local Chardonnay. We went on to a duck confit, which disappeared in no time, and a delicious chilli prawn spaghettini which impressed for its delicacy and texture. The dishes were accompanied by a very good Martinborough, NZ, pinot noir and an interesting white from Eastern Europe. I have not a word to say against this impressive, wonderful establishment and would not hesitate to either recommend or return. My only hope is that it's still there when I do because we were the only diners there at all for a Thursday lunch. Shadow deserves much better than that.

Three of us went there last night. The setting and atmosphere is great, the food, for most dishes is delicious, but it could be so much better and has its shortcomings.
The wines on the list are well chosen but grossly overpriced. An example is the Stormflower 2020 Sauvignon Blanc. This is available at most outlets for $20 per bottle. Shadow charges $62 for this. Only our first glass was poured by the waiters, the rest we had to self serve.
For the main course 2 of us had Clam Spaghettini. The serve was entrée size. It was tasty but drenched in lemon which spoilt the dish. At $34 a plate it didn’t represent great value. Our other guest had Gnochi, which was good but again strong on lemon and at $27 was more like an entrée serve.
Deserts were the highlight. The Pear Tatin and Chocolate Pave excellent and reasonably priced at $16 per dish.
The place was full and most tables turned over during the course of the evening. The service started off OK but after our mains it was a job to attract the waiter’s attention to order more.
When leaving don’t expect to be asked how you enjoyed your meal as the man at the cash register is obviously only keen to see if you leave a tip. If you don’t then don’t expect a smile or a thankyou for coming. We didn’t think it was deserved so departed with a goodbye scowl from the man on the register.

Id give one star for the ambience/ waiters choice of wine.. apart from that food was shocking...
cheap food at premium price.. we went Chefs special $75 per person - starter was craker and salmon dip.. nothing special.. tartare / raw mince with plain chips.. the plain chips tasted better, fish was more like carp and lemon, the gnocchi & mushrooms was under cooked and didnt blend the cheese was like tasteless cheddar.. coles mixed salad with dressing tasted bland with a side of dry duck mixed with baked beans didnt make sense.. then dessert was more like a protein breakfast mouse hazel nut sponge/ coco paste tasted more like milo mixed with yohgurt.. absolutely shocking.. i honestly never write reviews but when i picked up the $220 bill I had to let people know how bad this experience was... Sorry Shadow Wine Bar the worse meal out ive had in a long time..

The wine was great, the food was also very nice. Initially the wait person was lovely and polite. We has 2 bottles of wine and dinner. One of the other wait staff accidently knocked one of the glasses on its side while she was refilling it. This was not a big issue l to us at all, we said "good save and laughed". The wait person was very apologetic and said she would return with a refill. This dis not happen and when the original wait person came to ask if we wanted more drinks. Someone in our group mentioned the refill. We were not the ones who asked for it, it was offered! The wait person asked who it was who did it, she returned a minute later with the rudest manner and attitude I have EVER experienced by a person in hospitality. Leaning over the table, scowling she put about 2 drops in the botton of the glass (literally NOTHING) this workers gesture was vile.. Her attitude towards our group from that point was extremely sour. This baffled us all as she was initially so great, joking with us and explaining parts of the menu to us. Soon after she re appeared and put the Eftpos machine in our face saying nothing and looking at the wall, One of us made the payment and she walked away, no eye contact, no thank you just attitude. We are a very easy going friendly, polite group of professionals who would have returned as the food was great, sadly due to this rude female wait person we would NEVER consider returning. Such a shame one person can completely ruin an atmosphere.

Shadow has been a favourite of mine for many years, always come in for a wine or 2 and a meal, mostly by myself and never been treated badly or judged for coming in alone.
However last night I came in about 9.45pm as I usually do and didn't even get past the bar before the bar attended accused me of coming in to use the toilet only, didn't even ask my intentions if I wanted dinner or just a drink, just told me to leave.
So rightly I tried to justify myself saying I'm here for a glass of wine, then he made accusations saying I'm being aggressive, far from it....
Very disappointing to say the least and totally unjustified when he didn't even use any courtesy to ask my intentions, this is not how you treat your regulars who come in often and spend good money.

Atmosphere, sorta industrial new yorkish type feel, open and nice feel
Food, i highly rate these guys, the food was executed really well...Lamb med rare was melt in yr mouth, no smell and was great. The veal cutlet again was really nice complimented with a cabbage slaw, slightly acidic to contrast against he meat
Sweets and coffee were enjoyable, not the most $$$ or cheapest place, but a great experience.
Complimentary sparkling water all night btw, i usually dislike it but this was light sparkling and didn't interfere with the meal...
Overall would i return, YES

Visited on Friday night. We were early so sat at the bar for a drink and snack while we waited for the rest of our group. Someone brought us the cocktail we wanted (not on the menu) and some tasty trout rillettes with seriously good crackers. When our party arrived we were quickly seated with water brought to the table. We ordered many items off the menu and liked all of them. The service was attentive. It's quite dark and noisy but that's all about the atmosphere. We liked it. Not cheap.

Having a city day out, I have a soft spot for this place. I have been a few times since it's opening. It is my go-to, a little dark piece of Northbridge to sink into and relax, to be at ease and just enjoy some elegant food and service amid the hustle of the rest of the world. I had been given a complimentary bar snack when I sat down, battered sage leaves. Yummo, salty, crunchy pops of green which goes down well with anything you may choose to pair it with. The next course was a veal carpaccio with smoked leek, capers and aioli. Deeply coloured, the veal slices just right, (not too thin nor too thick), the capers little missiles of vinegary zing with the aioli creamy aftertaste a most pleasant one. The mushroom croquettes were not as stellar, bringing on a hard crunch with the filling too dense to enjoy. The flavour of the rocket pasta was lost due to lack of seasoning, but the parmesan on top gave a salty nudge to the tongue. The haloumi, marsala figs and honey sounded great on paper and having had it before, I was looking forward to it. But the reality was that it cooked too dark for the size of the serving so the honey had stayed on top and not sunk in, usually acting as the sweet to balance out the salt. The honey was not enough to cover the cheese so the taste was more medicinal than anything else. But overall, it still remains a favourite haunt of mine. Perhaps if I had been drinking I would have not even noticed the imbalances. Given how the ambience and service is always excellent, I probably wouldn't have.

Once again the food, wine and service a Shadow Wine Bar was excellent. We only had a limited time to have dinner before going to Black Swan theatre and that was handled well - quick (but not too quick) service.
Impressed with the knowledge of the wine list by the staff member who served us

Our group of 3 were walk-ins on a wet, miserable day early in the week for lunch and the bar/restaurant was very quiet; undeservedly so as from the moment we entered the experience was all very positive. Shadow is a big space but very impressive and it must throb when full. Although the staff were not under pressure the young lady quickly got us seated, provided menus and water and from then was most friendly and attentive. The menu was not large but very enticing. We enjoyed the duck and veal dishes, both very tasty and generous. The beverage list was extensive, particularly the wine and cocktail list which garnered most interest. The coffee was also excellent which was appreciated as many restaurants often forget that it is often the last impression of the meal and bitterness abounds! Not here. The prices were reasonable and the restaurant is close to the CBD and easy to find.

Do book for dinner as the restaurant looked fairly full. It has been at least a year since my previous visit. The standard of food and service is still very good.
A good menu not too big but with a lot of variety
The King George was superbly cooked. (I eaten a lot of King George over the years as it is my favourite fish). Served with cucumber grape fennel almond salad. Others enjoyed cavatelli with pork and fennel, beef fillet with confit leek and Shark Bay crab with spaghettini.
There are vegetarian options on the menu.
Had delicious starters crab on potato crisps, White anchovy toast with salsa and prawns a la planchette.
Nice comfortable-classy atmosphere.

The lights were very dim which is pretty much standard for some wine bars; with the bulk of seating being restaurant style with bar tables and stools around the edges.
The music was so loud we were yelling across the table so asked if it could be turned down a notch - and were politely told it could not.
We ordered our drinks (our waitress was lovely) and proceeded to look at the menu.
That’s when we should have left.
It was bland and uninspiring and we bandied the idea of eating elsewhere, but wondered if we’d get in anywhere on a Friday at 6:00.
The only meal choice that appealed to me was pork belly, but it was accompanied by eggplant (which I don’t eat) and pickled apple; so I ordered a serve of bread to see me through until after our show.
One diner had gnocchi; one had risotto and one had the fish.
All said their food was nice, albeit they were small serves in big bowls.
For $42 the grilled fish was about the size of the palm of my hand and drizzled with something - and that was it!
We were all very happy to escape the din and see daylight; and agreed we should have gone elsewhere when we had the opportunity.
There were plenty of staff but the place was probably around 1/5 full; and we noticed whilst walking from there to the theatre that surrounding venues were pumping.

The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. The staff is very helpful and welcoming, only thing is that perhaps they were understaffed. We could only notice one waitress taking all the orders, watering and serving. The food was great! Presentation vise and taste vise:
