Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had made a booking for Sauma for a Friday night which was just as well as the place was rather busy. We were taken to a very nice table next to the windows and given a bottle of tap water.
Share/small plates met our requirements although some of the mains looked very tempting. In the end we went with four dishes plus a naan. Total, including two glasses of wine, was $90+ which seemed a tad high given the size of the serves. That said, the food was lovely and we were sated by the end. My favourite dish were the bhajis. The wagyu samosas ($6.50 each) were interesting (lovely pastry) as they were served on tomato sauce/ketchup. It actually worked for me but seemed a bit strange.
Service was very good and the food came out as each dish was cooked. All very timely.
Worth a visit.

Great variety of dishes with just the right level of spice for my liking in the mild dishes we ordered. Three dishes plus rice to share between two people was enough (probably should have added another, the plates were a little on the small side), came to $49, which seemed very reasonable.
Beautiful decor and friendly service.
(It was a bit odd to have the whole Grease megamix playing through lunch though 😂)

We popped into Sauma mid afternoon on a Saturday, so it wasn't too busy. The waitress was polite and let us know that the menu is limited in the late afternoon. The dishes came out at different times over 10 minutes or so which was not ideal but I guess they came when they were ready. We had the onion and cauliflower bhajis which were absolutely delicious and came with a smattering of thinly sliced pickle and chilli. We also had the paneer and the mushroom dishes and layered paratha - the dishes were delicious and well presented although a little small. We left feeling moderately satiated.

Pleasant environment, slow service, to ask anything to a waiter you had to suffer because they do not look at you. They gave us bottled water at 8 AUD, without telling us that there was the option of having it for free that of the tap that all the other tables had. The appetizers were good, we had ribs and chicken tikka, the main dishes all spicy, recommended only for those who love spicy, my 13-year-old daughter ate practically nothing. Average high prices especially for drinks.

I'm shocked by all of the positive reviews for this restaurant. We went for lunch and even with an empty restaurant the food took over 35 minutes to arrive. When it did, it was very low quality and the portion sizes were small for share plates. The real surprise came when it was time to pay the check--incredibly expensive for such poor food in such small quantities!

Indian restaurant with good selection. Entrees not built for sharing as they are small. The Dahl we had as a main was luke warm and tasteless and a small portion for a high cost. The kofta was ok but too small to share and again lacking in taste
Staff were pleasant and dishes came within a readable time. Really not value for money

First time visit for my daughter and I and what a gem. We love to share plates so the menu was right up our street, service was friendly and quick and the restaurant has a great vibe to it. We opted for the pani puri shots served with a crisp wheat bubble (your pour the shot into the bubble), delicious flavours of coriander, mint, tamarind, cumin and chilli . We shared the Onion and Cauli Bhaji, served with a tamarind sauce, we both agreed that they were the best we've ever tasted. Two meat samosa's, two tandoor roasted field mushrooms were our shared small plated. We opted for one large plate of banana leaf fish, the barramundi was beautifully cooked and the flavours delicate. You can order naan, roti, paratha/rice but we didn't on this occasion. Whilst the Bhaji's were our favourite, we couldn't fault any of the dishes we ordered. It's certainly a place we'll be frequenting more than once.

My husband and I thought this restaurant would be a great way for us to enjoy dinner in downtown Perth. We are visiting from the US and only have a few days in the city. The restaurant wanted a $40 NZ deposit to hold our reservation. I thought this meant the food and service would be outstanding. No. We were seated in the couples area where the waiter paid little to no attention to any table. I watched while he hovered over tables with six or more. As a result the restaurant missed selling more food an alcohol to the area we where were seated. On a positive note our scallops were perfect. The onions and cauliflower and the dal were unremarkable. I don’t why this restaurant gets a 4+ rating.

We’ve been to Sauma a few times and have always really enjoyed it. We’d travelled a fair distance to go to the restaurant today and were left feeling very disappointed.
Firstly, there was only one menu on the table between three of us and it was covered in curry stains.
Beware! If asked for still or sparkling water, make sure you specify ‘tap’ water as if you ask for still, you’ll be duped into a $7 bottle- as we were..
I know it’s street food and the plates come out at different times but we had eaten all the main dishes and were still waiting on the rice and puri shots we’d ordered. We didn’t want the rice on its own so we cancelled it.
Service was really lacklustre, no apologies for the delay in the dishes coming.
The restaurant was really quiet so there was no excuse for this.
The only positive I can say is that they do offer kids authentic Indian food and that the kid’s butter chicken was the best dish by far. And the biggest.
We left hungry and disappointed.
We won’t return.

First time I taste Hindu food with such exquisite flavors, very well achieved the spice mix, each dish with its specific seasonings. Pani puri to begin with is an explosion of flavors in the mouth. Congratulations. Highly recommended.

Second time here after a great experience.
Absolutely loved up to our expectations.
The atmosphere, service and food were magnificent.
Starters of chicken tikka and beef samosa wonderful.
Mains of banana leaf fish and palak paneer very tasty and well portioned. Good to have a little spice in these dishes also.
Garlic naan was also lovely and fluffy.
We had some lovely cocktails as well.
Service was very attentive and friendly.
A top shelf night.
Looking forward to our next visit.

After slow service, we were kicked out of the table to give place to other costumers. I asked for a discount of the desert (included in the price) and the staff/head waiter refused to discount, said that the booking was only 2 hours (that wasn’t over yet, still we had to leave), kept asking us to stop talking so he could talk, that they would not discount the desert and accusing us for being rude at the staff. When did a bad feedback became being rude?? When did businesses stop caring about clients?? Disappointed. Glad Perth has plenty of other restaurants that take good care of clients.

You can enjoy spiced appetizers and curry. The shop is spacious and can be used by large or small groups. There are about a dozen curries on the menu, and it's a good idea to ask for more than one to share with your friends. The price is a bit high, but the taste is unmistakable.

I went here alone for a meal after work. I had previously attended this restaurant with a group of my work colleagues and actually enjoyed the meal. I am vegan and ordered the potatoes, rice and pappadams for my main meal. When I placed my order I was absolutely disgusted when the waitress asked me to reconsider my order as I had ordered “too many carbs.” I am underweight and do not need to be mindful of carbs, quite frankly customers can make their own decisions about what they would like to eat. I want this restaurant to be aware that a comment like this can be extremely harmful for someone who is recovering from an eating disorder. I hope that waitress is fired and people like that should be in a job where they have no interactions without humans. Thanks to the rude waitress I would never go back. It is a shame because I actually enjoyed the food.

Very disappointing. Starter lovely. Tikka. Main Butter Chicken was like a bowl of tomato soup with chicken. Waiter & cashier couldn’t care less even when told I would do a review. Won’t be back.
