Fantastic service from our waitperson. She was so efficient attentive and obliging.
We underestimated our numbers when booking for my wife’s 70th but they had no problem expanding our table to 10 (from the original 8.)
We opted for the fixed menu of 3 courses, within which there were many excellent options. The entrees were fantastic, and in the Mains, the pork belly, fillet steak, fish, seafood spaghetti were all cooked to perfection.
Desert options included the Sticky Date Pudding which in my 50+ years of travel rated the highest.
Not outrageously expensive but moderately priced and affordable for anyone wanting a special night out.
It was for us.

My partner and I visited on a Thursday evening; we were thoroughly impressed.
All aspects were great. The service was thorough and with great attention to detail from Alice who clearly takes great pride in her work
She is very personable and took time out to keep my partner company whilst I had to pop out briefly.
The food was amazing - even though I'd ventured out of my comfort zone for what I'd usually order, it was all pleasantly surprising and tasted delicious. I am notorious for salting my food as most chefs will underseason on purpose, however these guys got it spot on.
I had tried oysters for the first time and Alice made sure I knew what I was getting myself into. This was followed by fish of the day, which was amazing with the combination of flavours.
My partner had the duck and said it was incredible.
What an excellent way to finish a visit to Perth.
We highly recommend this place and will be looking to return.

This was our last restaurant on a gastronomic tour of Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and what a great way to end. My wife says that Balthazar's is "very cool", with great food, lovely service, a very well-priced wine list, and it feels like fantastic value. We went on a Thursday evening, and it is a very romantic restaurant, so there were lots of couples, but also families and some business groups. My wife had two starters, the new on the menu tomato tartlet, followed by duck liver parfait. Both were perfect. I had the steak tartare followed by the duck, with orange and incredible fennel. This was accompanied by an excellent, and very well-priced, French CĂ´tes du RhĂ´ne. After the ludicrously over-priced wine lists of Sydney, this was amazing value at AUD 70. Service was delightful, from a lovely Italian lady from Naples.
The atmosphere is buzzing, and filled with passionate staff. It reminded me of some great New York restaurants, back in the 80s.
Very highly recommended.

Am unsure what to make of this restaurant, certainly it was not what we expected. For a start our expectations were this would be a bit more upmarket given the cost of the food and alcohol. The furniture is pretty basic as is the cutlery and menus. Staff were surprisingly young and appeared inexperienced: those that served us were travellers from overseas having recently arrived in Australia. Their training produced affirming responses to our choices - our wine choices were "excellent" despite the fact that it was most unlikely they would be familiar with the contents of the extensive 21 page wine menu. We did not have contact with a sommelier all evening.
The menu options were limited, we expected a wider range of choices. We chose Chicken & pistachio terrine & leek & caramelised onion tartlet for entrees and Seafood spaghetti, with salted roe & chilli oil & duck breast, orange fennel & native thyme for mains. The entrees were well cooked, the tart being the better of the two. The duck could have a couple more minutes cooking time for our taste to render the fat in the skin a bit more. The pasta was tasty enough but a tad over cooked to be considered an excellent dish. All dishes were tasty enough but we thought a tad pricey for what ended up on the plate.
Our first choice of wine, a Tasmanian pinot was not available we then chose a local Pinot noir. Wine prices were generally on the expensive side, it appeared the market-up was proportionally higher for premium wines.
The restaurant was packed with what appeared to be a full house, as a consequence it was very noisy towards the front of the restaurant.
Obviously this is a very popular eatery, we just expected a tad more given the overall cost - nearly $300 for two courses with a pre dinner cocktail, wine and no dessert.

We used to love Balthazar. We had been regulars, and it was our 'go to' up until a bad experience put us off a few years ago, and hadn't been back since, but after reading more recent reviews we thought we'd go there for our anniversary.
It was an early evening session, and a tight table in a corner, with the blind open the opposite way to all the others, and directly in my face. Not romantic at all, and I wish I'd have brought my sunglasses. Definitely didn’t need the candle lit at all.
To cut to the chase, entrees were underwhelming, but it was the main that completely floored me, along with how the staff dealt with it. I ordered the wagyu striploin that was $89, plus adding some sides etc. My best guess was 140-150 grams max, and the quality of the steak was extremely poor. It was full of cartilage, and not even fat that could have been rendered. It was chewy and I got to a point where I'd cut parts into it that were edible (mix of fat and steak), and left what was pure gristle, probably 40grams (see photo). Do I think that was good value….definitely not. I have had better steaks at The Breakwater $15m steak night (and that's saying something). I do love a good steak, and been blessed to eat at some very renowned steak houses worldwide. I'm no expert though, so I asked politely could they check with the chef. The response was, that's just the way he cooks it, and you're not guaranteed what quality the steak will be. I'm floored by that response. The next interaction is with the waitress asking would we like dessert. I am still hungry at this point, and I'm a dessert person, but I said, no sorry we're just going to leave it there and leave, and could we have the bill please. She can see I'm not happy, so I provide feedback. I waited 10 minutes for the bill, had to ask again, then it turns up with a glass of dessert wine???? I even had to ask was that for us. Turn out it was a freebie because of the steak. Neither of us were drinking wine, not a fan of sweet wine, and we were leaving, so why bother. It just typified the lack of reading the situation, and if anything was more of an insult.
I would say hand on heart that was up there as one of the worst food experiences relative to spending that amount of money. ($390)
I should have left this review months ago, so apologies if others had the same issue. I did provide feedback, but didn’t realise it wasn’t publicly available feedback as they request feedback via email. However it just goes to the restaurant. With no response from them, I just assumed they really don't care. I am truly regretting giving them another chance, and would not return even if they promised free dining for life. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

For my partner's birthday I booked a table for two. The restaurant has a good reputation and a great wine list which we were hoping to sample a few glasses from. My partner had been several times and was impressed.
We arrived at 6.30 sharp (booking reminder stated they wanted us out by 8.45) and were shown to a table, unfortunately it was facing the door to the street (not a good start) we asked for something a bit more secluded and after a bit of hemming and hawing were shown to another table which was better placed.
We are not big eaters so just ordered some bread and olives and a couple of cocktails to start and ordered our mains at the same time, the bread and olives came out quickly and we tucked in. However, when we were about half way through the bread and olives the wait person appeared with the mains, the cocktails had not even arrived. We asked what was going on but the wait person just said the cocktails are just about ready. That's crazy, you don't expect mains to appear while you are still eating entree and before the drinks arrive...they got the message that we were not pleased and offered to comp the cocktails but did not appologise or acknowledge that they had stuffed up, so we accepted the mains and ordered a couple of glasses of wine, then discovered that the mains were cold! By this time we were not interested in getting into a fight on a special night so paid up and left. We were in and out in less than an hour with a bill of $184. However that taxi fares to and from home were $170 so our night cost over $350. I called the Manager but she only offered a $100 discount off another visit, I wrote an email but there has been no reply. There's no way I'm going back especially not to give them more money. If the owners want to run a fast food joint they should get a Maccas franchise.

Balthazar is just down the road from our hotel - so we thought we'd give it a try. Great food - spring vegetable tart starter outstanding. Sweetcorn risotto and kangaroo mains really tasty, too. Potatoes side dish a tad overcooked, but lemon vinaigrette dressing on side salad was just wonderful. Decent Margaret River wine by the glass. Friendly informed service. The restaurant, though, was terribly noisy - you had no choice but to shout, and it was made even noisier by strange and unrelaxing club style music. Decent value. If we lived in Perth, we'd probably return.

A very enjoyable meal, in an extremely busy restaurant. Food was of good quality, excellently cooked and presented, particularly the cured fish of the day and the side of toast potatoes, which were exceptionally city and tasty.
The evening was really made by our efficient and enthusiastic Welsh waitress, Alice, who although very busy, was always ready to chat and provide useful tourism advice.

Terrible service. Unwelcoming and waste of time. We felt so confused that we didn't even go in the door. We had a booking for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we arrived there were no clear entry points and the doors appeared to be locked and so we called and the phone wasn't answered. When we finally reached them, 20 minutes later, they couldn't even hear my husband on the phone. It sounded like a bunch of teenagers running what is advertised as a sophisticated operation - don't waste your time.

An ok second experience on a Thursday. Packed house and clearly the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders. Entree was great and then almost 40 minutes wait for mains. Pork belly was tepid and crackling too hard. Duck was fine. Duck fat potatoes not as tasty as before and again not hot enough. Dessert of doughnuts again a bit stodgy and flavorless. Noisy restaurant with weird music selection and too many large groups of raucous people. We were disappointed at the end and won’t go again.

I booked for my boyfriends birthday and sadly it wasn’t a good experience. His wine recommendation and kangaroo dish were excellent, but everything else was poor. I politely sent my fish main course back as it was so over cooked. The fish was charred and chewy, and did not flake apart at all. The replacement fish came out very quickly and again was over cooked - clearly fried again on a high heat. The fish should have been sweet and flaked apart, but instead was like a dry bit of chicken and overly salty. Everything on that dish was salty - no flavour. I didn’t eat either of the fish dishes and was surprised to see it on the bill at the end $48. We didn’t bother with desert. I left hungry and upset that it was such a terrible experience for my boyfriends birthday meal. Also my wine recommendation was poor - I asked for a dry white wine not sweet, and was brought a resiling then Chardonnay. In the end I gave up and ordered a Pinot Grigio for myself. I expected better service, wine knowledge and overall experience from this establishment. And at least the inedible fish dish to be taken off our bill. Shocking.

Have wanted to eat at Balthazar for months and our first attempt was aborted due to a dreaded lockdown, so our second attempt coincided with a pre-birthday staycation. The restaurant as expected was very busy with dim lighting and a nice atmosphere. Our table was ready on our arrival. Hubby ordered oysters and I ordered the Lorraine tart. Oysters came reasonably quickly and my husband waited for my dish to arrive before starting. After 5 mins I urged him to start, he ate slowly hoping my entrée would arrive. I was just going to catch the eye of the wait staff to cancel my entrée order (as hubby had finished) when it arrived. A little heavy on the chives which seemed to overpower the other flavours. Main course of Kangaroo and Fish were both cooked perfectly and a chocolate bar dessert topped off the meal. The service (despite the initial wait) was attentive yet unobtrusive. On paying we were asked how things were and we explained about the wait at the start of the evening which clouded our enjoyment initially. The price of our dessert was deducted from our bill which wasn't expected.

We Thoroughly enjoyed every bite and sip of our meal at Balthazar last evening. Truly world class. The atmosphere is gorgeous, with great lighting, the service is impeccable, the food absolutely fantastic, and the wine list impressive. We were assisted (I believe by Phil. Phil I hope I have your name right. You were amazing) to choose a wonderful bottle of Frankland Estate wine to go with our main dishes of duck. It was a perfect pairing where the food makes the wine even more outstanding and the wine makes the food even more outstanding. And the duck dish is my new favorite duck on the planet of earth. Perfectly rendered and crisped skin with tender meat on a plate with the most innovative, luscious and delicious veg/fruit anyone could ever imagine. It was insanely delicious. Our sides of potatoes and caulini were delicious as well. The caulini presentation received very high praise from my husband. This kitchen has a team with great skills, that sources high quality ingredients and honors those ingredients with flawless execution. For dessert we thoroughly enjoyed their impressive collection of dessert wines. Thank you so much Balthazar for a really great memory of Perth and the world class cuisine that's possible here.

Booked this lunch months ago on recommendation from a Perth local. He now lives in Sydney. Expectations were high and, sadly unfulfilled. Saturday lunchtime saw the restaurant a third full at most. Probably busier during the week and in the evenings. The staff were nice and the restaurant well laid out. A short menu should have insured quality. Sadly not. A tartlet of smoked ricotta and a pile of tomatoes was too much as a starter, not sure what smoking adds to ricotta and it was over tomatoed. Pastry case was nice. My oysters were sweet and fresh albeit they were some of the smallest I’ve eaten. The main courses were odd. Duck breast that hadn’t had the fat under the skin properly rendered was tough. Perhaps coating the skin with a sumac coating was the issue as this would have burnt but in any case had no reason to be there. The fish of the day, I couldn’t catch the name after several attempts, looked like red mullet fillets, had a tough skin although the flesh was cooked well. A buerre blanc sauce was spoiled by the addition of diced raw celery. The grapes would have been more welcome if peeled and cut in half. When asked how we found the meal and responded with our comments, told that these were the most popular dishes and all was a matter of taste. What ho.
