Ideal setting in a chilled out atmosphere.

The Lucky Shag was our first nights experience on our first visit to Australia and it certainly made us feel welcome. The setting looking out along the river is probably its main selling point but it also offers a decent bite to eat and friendly service,the menu is none too extensive but we did become accustomed to this as we ventured further afield in Australia,but it nonetheless did a very good Steak Sandwich which is a meal in itself and was so much more than what is expected back in the UK. Nothing was too expensive considering the setting and the atmosphere was just so relaxing and what was required having just spent the best part of a day travelling,sadly we never made it back here during our stay in Perth but for a first sampling of Aussie hospitality this was just perfect for us.

Our regular bar while in Perth

We spent three days in Perth in early January 2020. The Lucky Shag Bar was our 'go to venue' for a drink each and every day during our stay in Perth. We just couldn't stay away. The vibe in the place is superb. What could be better than having a few drinks at the Water's edge on a hot sunny day listening to some live music. We had a great time. We tended to visit late afternoon / early evening and it was always very busy so if you are coming for food I would recommend booking a table in advance (especially if you are wanting to sit outside). We always managed to get a table although we sometimes had to wait for a few minutes. There were only two of us so getting a table (with a little bit of patience) was never a problem. However, if you are in a large group, as I say, you might be better off booking ahead. The bar staff were very friendly and very efficient, never having to wait long to get a drink despite the bar being very busy. If I manage to get back to Perth one day - which I really hope I do - The Lucky Shag Waterfront Bar, will definitely be on my itinerary.

Lovely place

Having heard that this place had amazing views we booked to visit before we left the UK as we only had one night in the city. Even on a Tuesday night this place was heaving with live music playing. Was a lovely place to be while the sun goes down and eat some gorgeous food. The kids meal went down well and was generous in size, I had fish tacos which were delicious and my other half had steak which he declared ‘amazing’ we also got a huge portion of wedges. Service is order at the bar which suited us. All in all a great bar to visit in the city!

A proper pub atmosphere on the waterfront

Great battered seafood here and cool beers and fizz. Second visit to Lucky Shag as came here 6 years ago. It is a proper pub and the staff are friendly, food tasty and you can watch the shag birds arrive on the deck just across the water. Worth the walk through Perth to this pub!

I would find it difficult to believe all those +ive reviews after the way we were treated by these bullies. Their attitude to paying customers is deplorable. Staff there would be better suited to working as prison wardens. Luke warm white wine, a 15 minute wait on a pint of beer (I think the barrel ran out) and a lunch growing cold on my table, all paid for up front, led to me being thrown out of the bar. Do yourself a favour....stay away! That is unless you want to be abused and embarrassed in public.

Solid value with a view

In Perth for an Aussie VACAY with limited travel choices due to COVID and need to avoid quarantine stayed Hilton Parmelia Perth and Ritz Carlton Perth This great bar on the water with views was my choice for lunch on last day. 1 minute from Ritz Carlton, I'd already scoped it and chkd out menu on a post brekky walk. Luckily it was close by as a rain storm with pelting rain arrived but still fantastic to watch the rain on the river/waterfront Good fish N chips and very well priced wine list by Perth standards Chose a South Aussie Barossa rose Friendly staff and cosy with outdoor heaters Next time in Perth this is a go to

Ordered the brisket burger. The brisket was tough and dry, served with coleslaw that contain a black hair. The chips were soft and under seasoned. The Mac and Cheese was so spicy hot that no one could eat it and it had a undercook flour taste.

I dropped in for a beer at lunchtime

I found the service extremely slow. One staff member behind the bar working. Two other staff members fiddling behind the bar when they should be serving. 7 or 8 customers waiting to be served and then charging $14 for a pint. There has to be better places to drink. Sadly the outside bar is now always in the shade thanks to the building built on the norther side.

Good fast food, scenery and pleasant surroundings

This must have been out third visit to this restaurant in as many years. The food is consistent and the service friendly. If you desire a beer or wine with fast food in casual surroundings, then this is the place. We have been to this restaurant as a couple and in a group in the past and have always enjoyed the food and location. The food has to be ordered at the counter but it is brought to you when ready. This is really the only down side as when ordering there is no queue and sometimes people who are aggressive tend to push ahead. A numbered ticketing system would eliminate this as it can get busy at meal times.

Waterfront bar on Swan River

The Lucky Shag Waterfront Bar is on Barrack Street Jetty in Perth. Its outdoor area overlooks the Swan River. The outdoor area is large but it is a popular bar so seating goes quickly. The bar is very large with lots of friendly and efficient staff. There are numerous types of ales on tap and cocktails are served. The atmosphere of the pub is very good, the music though was rather loud and it was difficult to talk. There are many TVs showing sport - even in the loo. Overall a very good location for a beer or two. Meals are also served though we did not eat.

Average!! The hummus and falafel salad that’s comes with Turkish bread is actually pita so don’t think bread! And we had to ask for that and the falafel also was loaded with olives!! And if you order a drink make sure you have time to drink it as they cut u off on the time and u can’t take drinks to different part of bar to finish.. 50% of the slushies worth runny and not slush.. also menu says a main and a dessert … it’s not it’s one or the other!

Disappointing

Good selection of beers and a good atmosphere in a great location: but that’s where the good review ends! The whole place looks shabby and in need of a spring clean. The high table top where we sat was sticky and tacky, and there were far too many uncomfortable stools crammed around it. The food was mediocre at best, with the steak in my sandwich being reasonably cooked, but it was wafer thin with about a third of it being fat, the bun it was in was rock hard, and over toasted, and the chips (fries) were so salty I gagged and couldn’t eat them. The chicken skewers were reasonable but nothing special, but the empanadas were obviously cooked from frozen and were bland and tasteless. In addition, I tried to order them so that I had the mix of three, chicken, beef and vegetable in one order, but the staff’s grasp of the English language meant I ended up with three separate orders, and when I tried to explain the mix up to another staff member, their English if anything was even worse, so we ended up just leaving the situation as it was, rather then spoil the evening. Overall, very disappointing and would definitely not recommend the Lucky Shag to anyone other than for a beer

Sadly there are now reservations about this iconic Perth Waterfront venue.

This was our first visit, probably for around a year. In the past, this venue has been a 'must visit', especially when entertaining visitors from outside the district, however, certain factors have crept in which now make that questionable. Firstly let me say that the staff remain as friendly and helpful as ever, and the quality of the food is excellent for what is essentially a pub. There is also an excellent selection of drinks available. Here, however, the reservations creep in. The first, and one that the management can do nothing about, is the massive hotel that has been built immediately to the North of the venue - and as I predicted over a year ago, the building blocks all sunlight from the outside decks as, of course, the midday sun is due North. With the sun rising in the East and setting in the West, this new hotel consequently blocks all sunlight from the Lucky Shag from early morning for the rest of the day. The second reservation has to do with the kitchen. As stated earlier in this review, the quality of the food cannot be faulted. However, there is something wrong with the running of the kitchen when covers do not come to the table together. On this occasion, by the time my partner received his meal, I had already finished mine and I noticed that tables around me were also receiving meals in totally random order and this is frankly not acceptable. A third reservation is regarding children who seem to think the venue is a playground. In this current case I don't believe they were actually with parents who were patronizing the venue at all as they seemed to be running randomly from the jetty onto the premises and then onto the terrace of the hotel without any visible parental control. Whilst I am not against children being taken to such venues, there does need to be an enforcement of some form of parental control as a requirement of the management and also some way of preventing children who are not with patrons of the establishment from randomly entering. This is the first occasion in all the years we have been visiting the Lucky Shag that this problem has occurred. Lastly, the reservation of tables. Whilst I have absolutely no problem with this in general, it is not only frustrating but also inconsiderate when people do not turn up and occupy tables they have reserved. We arrived at just after 12:30 and left at 1:40. Most tables had reservations, the majority of those being for times between 12:30 and 1:00, and at the time we left at least half a dozen were still unoccupied. Maybe it is time that the management stipulated that tables not claimed by 10 minutes after the reserved time will have the reservation removed. All in all, very disappointing for such an iconic venue.

Fabulous service and Great Location

Fabulous service. Great spot on the river. It is order at the counter type service, but the people behind the bar were great, especially helping my husband figure out which beer to have. Food came in good time. The only complaint I had was the fish tacos were drowning in sauce. It would have been better if there were less.

We spent lunch here and the pizza was terrible, looked like crispbread with a meazly bit of cheese and think slices of barely red tomato. Other food not bad but never order the pizza. I know cheese prices have gone up but really.....
