Nearly Great! This restaurant was highly recommended by friends who told us we must visit whilst in town. They were right but I had the lamb rack and it was beautiful but it was luke warm at best when served. My wife had the veal cotelleta. It was a beautiful piece of meat however it was served "still mooing" and had to be sent back. Importantly the service was 9 out of 10. Even on a Tuesday our waitress was very business however thr other staff did a great job covering her when she was busy elsewhere. A really nice environment and ambience and very popular with locals. The entrees and dessert were beautiful. Not quite to the expected standard... by still very, very good! 9 out of 10 is a great rating from me.

Wow! What a find. We were absolutely blown away by this very elegant, subdued, and classy restaurant. Staff were amazing. Attention to the customer, knowledge of the menu, in its entirety, and just all over every aspect of your dining experience from the moment you open the door until you leave. We were very lucky tonight...brand new menu...and what a wonderful menu it is. Wish we had another night in Melbourne to go here again. We had Prosciutto stuffed crumbed fried green olives to wet our appetite. Could eat these all day long. Cured Ocean Trout with orange, coriander, and kohlarabi was not only beautifully presented but refined and refreshing and really...bloody delicious! Seared scallops with saffron corn puree, leek, charred corn, and creme fraiche were so good that my husband didn't even give me a taste! Housemade Gnocchi, zuccini and basil pesto, olive, pistachio with fresh Burratas was excellent. Linguine, prawns, scallops, clams, mussels, fish, garlic, Chilli, herbs was magnificent. We can wait to come back. Thank you Chef, kitchen staff, waiters, waitress and Cosimo for a stunning dining experience.

Great Italian food, pasta and meat focused, high end with expensive prices. Great service with advise on choice, a pity that for our large group, the plates always got confused, especially at this price range. Great for hosting business events

Heard so much about this restaurant. Dined last Saturday night with another 7 friends. Ambience, decor was very lush. Service was nothing out of the ordinary. Bread was placed on our table. I personally asked for gluten free bread. Took forever to arrive. Had to ask twice. We all ordered a main each. Mains took forever to be served. By this time it would have been close to 9.45pm-10.00pm. We were all quite famished. The fish was good, the octopus was good, the steak was good however the lamb with the gnocchi (x3 were ordered) were tough and tasteless. We complained to the waiter who told us that’s why salt and pepper is on the table. One of the lamb dishes was taken off the menu because it wasn’t really touched. The other serving had been half way through therefore not taken off the menu and the third serving was mine which I ate more than half as I was famished also not taken off. None of us were asked if we would like something else. The desserts were very nice. At the end of the evening on receipt of the bill we questioned what the service charge was. We were informed that if you’re over a group of 6 you are charged a service charge. Therefore, We were charged $94.00 before we even sat down to eat. Staff were very quick to tell us in the t&cs. Based on the above I would not recommend this restaurant and definitely not for a group of 6 or more, unless you want to pay 100.00 odd dollars before you even sit to eat. Food was not to the quality the decor and ambience exhibits. Staff were not exemplary and did not go out of their way to warrant a service charge. Just meant they didn’t get tipped. Our female waitress came across very fake nice. If our experience had of been very good we wouldn’t care to pay the service charge however overall poor dishes slow service and had to ask twice for gluten free bread. Will not be going back which is unfortunate as the ambience was very nice.

Nothing memorable about the food. It was fine but at the prices charged expected more finesse. Very much a business place. For an evening dinner most tables appeared to be full of post work city types dinning with clients or the more raucous with colleagues. Very professional set up, linen cloth and napkins well arranged tables slightly dimmed lighting. Service which was smooth rather than engaging.

We visited this restaurant with my family. We ordered daily specials which were grilled sword fish, risotto of the day and linguine pasta. All the main dishes came barely warm. Far away from any taste. If you really like Italian taste, even get away from it’s street. The only reason we gave 2 reason is the wine expert, his recommendation was fine. At least we had a pretty fine wine.

The food that we had last night was sone of the most disappointing I have had in Melbourne . The veal was dry and tough and the rissotto and pasta that we had was lacking in flavor .so overpriced for the quality won’t be returning . We were served our mains while the entree plates were still in the table within an hour of arriving all in all bad experience

The food and service were far below what we (my wife and I) were expecting having seen their prices. For the main, we had the Charred wild tiger prawns. This comprised five prawns for $60. The prawns were so overcooked that they were tough as leather. At first I thought that they hadn't been shelled. I asked the waiter to show them to the chef as I assumed that they would want to know. The waiter returned saying that the chef told him they were meant to be tough but he would take one of the serves off our bill. He then told us we were never to come to this restaurant again! We immediately left without ordering any more.

Service started very very slow but as the evening went on it did get better. The waiters are well trained in service technique and on the food and booze menu. I think when I come back I’d order completely different dishes.

Had the pleasure of dining here for lunch recently and were again blown away by the magnificent food, ambience and top shelf service in this restaurant! Our meal was exceptional, the seafood linguine exquisite, arancini fantastic and iceberg lettuce salad to die for......Highly recommend for fine food and great service, at a reasonable cost, I.e. value for money. One side note, don’t park as we did in the Flinders Lane car park near Sofitel, eye watering charge for 2 1/2 hours🥺🥺

The service runs like a well oiled machine and combines with exceptional food, cosy atmosphere and ambient surrounds to provide a first class night out. This is the sort of Italian restaurant that only Melbourne seems able to do. Long serving wait staff outperform the competition. The squid ink linguine with anchovy oil and John Dory Roe was a stand out. Highly recommended.

We headed to Cecconis for dinner to celebrate a 40th birthday. How disappointing this experience was, I will not return. Nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone. A couple of positives: * Our waiter was lovely and acknowledged the flaws we mentioned to him * The wine was excellent That is where the positives end. * 5 of the 8 scallops at the table were raw. Yes scallops can be eaten raw, but the texture almost made them inedible * The 2 veal cotoletta’s at the table were cooked in so much butter that you could only taste butter. You could not taste the veal at all * The kingfish main was overcooked and incredibly overpriced at $55 for a piece of fish and some zucchini salad * Probably the greatest disappointment of the night was the very large table of guests near by. They were very loud, yelling and swearing, banging the table. This behaviour went unchecked by the restaurant. We left immediately after main course not being able to stand the noise and atmosphere. For a fine dining restaurant, it was totally unacceptable. When we brought this to the attention of the restaurant they apologised, agreed but did nothing about it. It ruined the evening and the birthday celebration. We will not return.

I have visited Cecconi’s for a number of times and each time it never fails to impress. The service and the food was excellent. Nowhere in Melbourne is there a better cotoletta , It’s tender and so well crusted and flavoured. The iceberg lettuce salad was divine, and the cured kingfish was so delicately paired with sauces. Lastly the tiramisu was a very high standard, comparable with those that you find in Italy. Every night it is crowded so you will need to make a booking here.

Service was genuine, warm and friendly. Food was excellent especially the thin tagliatelle with butter and black truffle starter and the Guinea fowl mains. Good selection of wine per glass at reasonable prices. All in all an excellent celebration dinner!

Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
