Very disappointed. Turned up 11:50am on a very hot day. Told to wait outside in heat as don’t open until 12. Waitress then allowed other people waiting to enter restaurant before us, no acknowledgement of us all waiting outside on heat. Once inside, staff were...rude & arrogant. Food was very rich & as we ordered the feed me now to sample lots of things. We had 2 x curries pad see ew & massaman curry that came out without proper utensils to dish food. We were only give chopsticks & not offered knife or forks - it was very difficult to eat the meal & we all agreed there was no real service and whatever service we were offered was rude and arrogant. The restaurant was packed and we couldn’t work out why? It was loud, it was extremely hot & uncomfortable - so much so we had to ask them to turn on the aircon- all in all we would all never return to this place - food was ordinary & overpriced - drinks were same. Rude staff & so loud we couldn’t hear ourselves talking - very disappointed. There are much better places in Melbourne to eat - don’t waste you’re time or money … we won’t be returningMore

it's a fantastic restaurant with great food and great staff, please don't listen to Leef63's review. I was there with my partner when this happened and it's completely false. They arrived so late and everyone at the result did what they could to help but...we were in restrictions and you could only have a limited amount of time at a table so she flew off the handle and caused a massive scene in the restaurant due to her own tardiness. She was extremely rude and that post is very unjust. My partner and I had a great time we enjoyed our food and drinks and are looking forward to going againMore

No mention of a time limit when we booked. When we rang to say we were running 10 mins late because Swan St was at a stand still, they said we had only 1hr and 15 mins left. The waiter talked us into a banquet...with 3 entrees, 3 mains and 2 sides. Barely finished the entrees and mains arrived. Half way through the mains and a very expensive bottle of wine we were told we had to leave or move outside! We were so stressed by the time 3 people told us to leave we had no choice because we didn’t want to be there anymore!!! NEVER GOING BACK. Too many bookings!!!! Absolute GREED. What happened to a nice dinner out.More

Been here a couple of times now, initially on the recommendation of a friend. The place has a very young vibe, but they make everyone feel welcome and you are left with the feeling that the service is very personal. Starting with a drinks list...that has a good range and is reasonably priced. Cocktails appear to be popular. All this before we've even gotten to the food - which is the best part. An Asian fusion menu that has a strong leaning towards Vietnamese. They have a 2+2+1 deal which is a great way to sample the menu over a few visits, as the range is extensive and the serving sizes are generous. The 2+2+1 is 2 starters, 2 mains and a side for $39.50/$42.50 pp (lunch/dinner). A great deal. Feels a bit noisy when you first walk in, but that is part of the charm of the place.More

WARNING: 6 of us attended Hochi Mama on 15th June. We booked on line and were forced to select the Favourites Banquet which was listed at $59.50 per person. However when checking the tax invoice the following day I found that we had been charged...$69.50 per person. I have tried contacting the restaurant to find out why the charge changed, but so far have no response.More

We ordered 4 banquets for dinner and there were a lot of food!!! Had the betel leaf bites, green tea tofu bao, chicken bao, roast duck crisps. Out of these I think the chicken bao was the most memorable. For mains we ordered a Hanoi...style whole fish, red duck curry, soft shell crab fried rice and silken tofu. The silken tofu were our favourites, there was a generous amount of soft shell crabs, the red duck curry was how it suppose to be. For sides we had roti and coconut rice, both serves were quite small, had to order extra. I must admit while the food at Hochi mama were flavourful, but it was too spicy, I wasn't expecting this level of spiciness otherwise would've asked them to tone it down. Also the waiters kept telling us about how much time we have left the moment we walked into the door. Still 40 mins to go and they were already wanting to clear our plates even though there's obviously food still on the table, which was quite annoying.More

We booked for 3pm after visiting the Impressionist exhibition at the NGV. We chose the lunch special menu and with two small, two large and one side that was more than enough! Standout was the green tea bao with fried tofu and the fried vegetarian...dumplings. Presentation was superb and service attentive.More
