Met up with a group of old friends a few nights ago. One suggested Ca Da Vin as its in the central and easy for everyone to get to. Ca Da Vin entrance is on Bourke street in the laneway behind the old GPO and and Myers. Its cozy and unique atmosphere was refreshing but best of all you could banter with friends same as everyone around you without feeling the need to speak softly. The food was excellent. We put some pizzas in the middle of the table along with other dishes for us to sample away. The pizzas were thin crust and a range of unique toppings, all from great quality ingredients. We chose a couple of the greek dishes to share also, traditionally served saganaki and lamb skewers. They we delicious and next time i plan to explore more of their offerings. Nice selection of good wines that were well priced. Service was very good, attentive when you ask for something but not in your face. Pricing was mid-range, and well worth it.

Walking past the GPO on Bourke Street Mall we came across these huge iron ore doors lit by candles in large timber . We walked inside into a church like dome area and then it revealed a bustling candle lit outdoor laneway restaurant called Ca de Vin . The weather was freezing but even this outdoor restaurant was warm and cosy with some of the coolest music playing . We were greeted by Eldi and the four of us were seated within five minutes as the place was full . We ordered shared mezzes to start , Saganaki with honey and dried figs , Zuchini fritters a yoghurt sauce ,Grilled Kebabs and a straight out of the oven Garlic Bread with dips . We devoured them while drinking Hawkers Draft beer . For our mains we each ordered individually . I had a Roasted Beef Rib and it melted in my mouth , the others had a Seafood Cartocchio Linguini served out of the oven in pan with the pasta and seafood wrapped in oven paper . a Prosciutto pizza which was oval in shape and thin and crispy . It was covered in Prosciutto with rocket and Parmesan in the centre . The last meal was Portalighton mussels panned in a tomato , chorizo and garlic sauce … The food was amazing and full of flavour and the restaurant was alive without any pomp or attitude … We will be back and soon …

Glad we finally made it to Ca de Vin for lunch after we cancelled dinner. We had a reservation, changed it then cancelled it because we didn't think I would be able to walk that far for dinner. Then on our last day we were sitting trying to figure out lunch and looked up and there was Ca de Vin....a sign. We walked down the little lane and there it was. It was slammed. We were second in line and finally saw another table free up. We were seated and the friendliest server arrived. We ordered a lemon, lime, bitter and looked over the menu. It was almost 2:00OM and knew we had dinner at 6:00 so we ordered appetizers. Fried Zucchini Fritters with zucchini, fresh herbs, feta, mozzarella and tzatziki & Spetsifai - Spicy Greek Sausage with a Napoli sauce, capsicum, feta and served with pita. Both were very good. However, the fritters could have been about a third of the size of one so there was more crunch. They got a bit soggy over time. The Greek sausage had a great taste but some of the larger end pieces could have been sliced a bit thinner so they would have a little char like some of the thinner slices. Don't get me wrong, the tastes were great just not at the top of the rating chart. Would definitely order each of these again. There were lots of pizzas being served and they looked wonderful. Will try one next time. Will definitely return. Service was great and they were so very busy. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommend. Make a reservation.

A romantic industrial style candle lit Laneway restaurant. Friendly waiters, great crispy thin oval prawn pizza. Greek dips with cheesy bread, crispy Zucchini fritters and a super tender 5 hour pork belly dish ....

This place is just a joke. I was hoping for some authentic seriously good Italian food based on the feedback but totally pissed off. I am more than happy to pay the price for good food as the chef’s deserve a decent wage but honestly I have had better pizzas from the supermarket. This was burnt, the base was nothing special and I have seen more cheese on a toastie. Further to this when I told the host on checkout they just laughed, no apology, nothing. I am not that fussy and never complain but don’t waste your time, there are more deserving places to eat in Melbourne.

This is a restaurant in a covered laneway so can get a bit cold even with space heaters at certain times of year. The food here is great and the atmosphere is good too. Well worth a visit in the evening There are several other restaurants on the laneway all of which look good

This is a great laneway restaurant right in the middle of the CBD with just the loveliest staff ever. The food is tasty and fresh with a great selection of wines, cocktails and more. Must get: the pork belly and the chips, caprese tomato with basil enjoy the meal with one of their beautiful wines.

A great experience , felt like I was in a Harry Potter movie eating in Diagon Alley. The food and wine was excellent - we had zucchini fritters, paella and a creamy chicken dish, tiramisu and gorgeous cocktails to finish the night. Service was spot on - will definitely be going back.

We had dinner here recently when visiting Melbourne. The place is obviously very popular - even on a Tuesday - as we had to wait well over an hour of our mains. We did get the entree promptly Our initial waiter had disappeared, we needed to ask how much longer we would be waiting. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. Would have liked dessert had we not thought the wait would have possibly been too long. Will remember where this place is for next time we visit Melbourne.

Nice location for a dinner out with family or friends. We loved the pizza which was very similar to a flat bread. The atmosphere is nice, with oriental candle lamps everywhere ! The restaurant was very busy and clearly under staff so it was a bit hard to get the staff attention. That said, the staff remained friendly and collected !

Decided to have lunch here as we were down town. The hostess desk was unmanned, we waited about 3-4 minutes, as no one came, we wander through and seated ourselves. The waitress eventually came but was rather surly and off hand. The pizza was stone cold and tasteless, and the waitress first forgot our beer and then arrive with the accompanying salad after we had finished our meal which was rather pointless. Then the waiter managed to knock two glasses of water soaking me and our shopping. My husband waited over 10 minutes to get a bill so my daughter and I went to the shop and she was accused of leaving without paying the bill in a very rude manner by the hostess. She pointed out that her father was sitting at the table. The final sting in the tail was I forgot my expensive Ray Bans on the table I returned within 10 minutes, but they had disappeared. I left my number with a member of staff but never heard back. As this restaurant is situated on an open thorough-way keep an eye on your belongings. And keep walking unless you enjoy having a cold shower & food.

Casually walking and came across this alley way restaurant. Decided to stop and have a small lunch. We ordered a pizza on gluten free base and it was amazing. As someone who is unable to eat gluten, the base tasted like a regular base and was the prefect size for me and my mother to share. As an additional note, the service was also lovely. Another thing to note is the amazing variety of gluten free options available. From pasta and pizza to gnocchi and many more.

The service is horrible, the worst. Three days ago, I stopped by to make a reservation and the waiter who attended to me noted the reservation. I mentioned that it was a special occasion because my wife was having a birthday, and he told me they would do something special for us and noted my name in the system. When we arrived, we got there 15 minutes early, and the guy who greeted us said the reservation wasn’t there. I asked him what had happened, and he ignored me and simply gave us a table that was the worst table; it wobbled a lot, and the air was blowing directly on us. When we tried to ask him to change our table, he just ignored us, so we asked another guy if he could please change it for us. He said, 'But you don’t have a reservation, right?' We tried to explain what had happened, and he just said, 'I don’t know, I’ll see what I can do.' The place was practically empty!!! Literally, we just got up and left; it was the worst service, and I felt so powerless because I couldn’t do anything, and they practically ruined our special moment. We’ll never comeback again and I don't recommend to anyone this place.

Great spot for very good Italian food. Service is kind and available. Food is pretty good overall and prices are decent. I did like the fact that they turned on the heaters as it was a fairly fresh evening in downtown Melbourne1

Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
