At midday we walked along past all the Italian restaurants and were taken in by the very stylish and warm atmosphere here. Our waiter was entirely attentive and had a gentle discreet manner - most refreshing in comparison with some other locations. We ordered spaghetti and ravioli which was really delicious and excellent value served with bread, and a complimentary starter. We are only in the city a short time but would sincerely recommend for others.

Great atmosphere and vibe, very special place to dine. Decor is beautiful as is the lovely Murano glass in restaurant. The food is so authentically Italian, simply a divine eating experience. Waiter was a wonderful host, made us feel at ease and was happy to suggest things to try on the menu. Complimentary olives and ricotta were a pleasant surprise. We ordered risotto which was perfectly cooked al dente and squid ink tagliatelle with calamari ragu was packed full of flavour. We finished off with a most delicious tiramisu, perfect end to a perfect meal. Each time we’ve dined here we have always been impressed, I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant.

I believe Da Guido's may have been the 2nd best rated Italian restaurant in Melbourne & it could be criminally underrated. Atmosphere: Friendly. Food: Spectacular. Service: Best in Melbourne to date.
We had an early table, our water was attentive, friendly & had our wine glasses re-filled before they were emptied again & the food was all delicious. We had 3 entrees, mains, desserts & a bottle of wine for under $200, served in quick succession & our waiter was great with our sleepy, cranky 4 year old. Couldn't ask for a better experience,

My partner and I ate here last night.
The restaurant was warm and welcoming, a great attention to detail was evident: it had soft lights and many candles that gave a good atmosphere.
The menù is clear and well thought out, simple genuine dishes for everyone.
We opted for an assortment of cured meats and cheeses with a bottle of red suggested by the waiter: truly exceptional.
For the mains we ordered some fantastic gnocchi with rabbit and some delicious Ravioli with Wagyu beef.
The conclusion of the dinner was dictated by the Chef, a fantastic Millefoglie with Strawberries, incredible!!!
The dinning staff is always attentive and friendly .
Highly recommended for romantic evenings.
We will definitely come back

On our first night of a 4 day stay in Melbourne I decided to give the restaurant a try along with my wife after reading reviews on TA. We arrived just before 8pm and we offered a table inside or out and we chose outside . It was a warm evening. The setting was great and very busy always a good sign. The menu was varied but I chose fettuccine with ham and mushrooms and my wife had Cannelloni with spinach and ricotta cheese - both meals were superb. We had a bottle of Chardonnay and a beer all for $104 . We were served by the owners son who explained all of the staff were Italian from the Venice area and all share in the success of the restaurant. It was a superb night and the meal will be hard to beat

I had a fantastic dinner. I am Italian and the pasta tasted amazing... same as in Italy as well as nice wine and atmosphere. The staff is welcoming, extremely nice and helpful- I am intolerant to dairy and they were very understanding and professional about it. I 100% recommend Guido if you want to have an authentic taste of Italy, they have the best Italian food in town!

Went there last Tuesday 16th June to celebrate my partners 40th birthday and Da Guido did not let us down! From the moment we walked in, we were very impressed with the venue, and the staff we so friendly and welcoming with just the right amount of Italian charm and charisma. Because of Covid restrictions, they only had 2 other tables occupied and sometimes it can feel a bit awkward in a restaurant with only a few people inside, but the service was excellent - very attentive without being over bearing. The food was excellent, the waiter (who unfortunately I can't remember his name) was excellent and when they bought out dessert the staff - including the Chef - broke into song to sing Happy Birthday! We walked away very happy.

Da Guido is one of the most beautiful and delicious Italian resturants in Melbourne. I loved the open atmosphere and having the kitchen open, the staff and chefs all speaking Italian and the aroma of fresh food made me feel as if I was in Italy.
The waiters are very funny and service-orientated, they made sure that our dinner was comfortable and excellent which I apreciated. They have excellent recomendations incase you need some pointers on what to eat for the night.
The chefs are masters of the trade, I ate one of the most delicious pastas in my life here. I also recommend the caprese salad, extremely fresh.
The cocktails here are really good as well. I recommned the Negroni to start and the Espesso martini to finish. If you have space for dessert, try the affocato.
I would recomend Da Guido to any Italian lover in Melbourne who's looking for a night to relax and enjoy some great food. 5 stars out of 5.

The food in this place was terrible. I’m not sure how this place managed to get this high rating at all. Perhaps it was just bad luck that night but to call the food we received Italian would be an insult to the Italian people. Italian food is mainly characterized by the high quality of the ingredients which was not the case in this place. The starters with tomato and mozzarella was nothing special. The mozzarella tasted bland and the tomatoes like water. It was not served with any elegance at all. The carpaccio was cut too thick and the meat did not feel fresh. Same with the thick pieces of sweaty Parmesan cheese. It was like the cheese had been precut and was just waiting to be served. The pasta dish did also not taste much, I took the one with the squid. The main dish was most disappointing. A bit piece of meat that was over cooked served on a hard piece of bread with some cream sauce. Chopped up root vegetables to this. No elegance at all. And the sad fact that the food even failed to feel rustic due to the bad ingredients.
Overall. Bad experience. Tourist trap. Will not return to this place again.

Dined here for the first time to celebrate a promotion and we were rushed and had a hungry 2 year old with us, however the service was immaculate and waiters were very understanding and friendly. We ordered seafood and squid ink spaghetti, both were perfectly proportioned and not only was there an adequate amount of tasty seafood but even the pasta was delicious and perfectly textured (and served quickly). I almost forgot we were rushing and under stress because of how enjoyable the experience was. Highly recommended!

We were out for a Saturday stroll and came across Da Guido’s on Lygon Street. Seated us on the open air railing at the front and we started with the mozzarella/tomato/basil appetiser, which was both creamy and tasty. We both had pasta for our main dish, a salmon and a bolognese which they served with a very tasty basket of home made bread. Entire meal was great, ambience was excellent, and we had a great time with the wait staff. We will be going back.

We booked an 8pm dinner sitting. My cocktail order, an amaretto sour, was an intriguing pairing of almond and citrus. The insalata Caprese and piatto de salumi starters were simple, rustic and pleasing. Then the wagyu ravioli with rosemary butter and wild boar, tomato and hazelnut pasta arrived. The portions were not overly large, but the richness of the flavours nearly defeated us. But you can’t leave a morsel of that homemade pasta and unctuous meat behind... even if it means forgoing dessert. Delicious Italian food, efficient, friendly service and modern decor punctuated with Murano glass tumblers and pendant lights.

Had a really great dinner experience there with my friends! I fel in love with the special fish of day which was crumbed fish with peanut salad and black squid pasta. They were beautiful, well seasoned and generous portions for me. The place was caming and cozy which made you didn't want to rush at all. Roberto was the best helpful waitress there who always did his best to make sure we enjoyed the food and had everything we need. It was quality food with quality service as well! For sure I would come back there for the second time!

Number 2 on trip advisor? Really?! They sure have a lot of five star reviews from people with profiles with just 1 review, so not really sure what’s going on there.
Look, the pasta is good and the service was good (especially roberto with the novelty bow tie). But really? The antipasta plate was just ok.
$9 for a lemon lime and bitters. Again, really? Just because you put it in a wine glass doesn’t mean you can charge wine prices for a soft drink. The complimentary bread. Again, really? Served in a nice posh box but the bread had no reedemimg features. Wasn’t warm and didn’t taste very fresh.
The pasta. Ok yes, this was good and clearly made on-site. Kudos for this. We had planned to have desert but felt a bit underwhelmed and at $16 for deserts, again we didn’t think we would hit that $16 value.
There is a longer running better Italian operating a few doors door which I’ll be going back to.

Dear Plane Nerd 77,
Thank you for your review, we really respect it. On the contrary you didn't seem to respect the vast majority of all other reviews just because they think differently than you. We have almost 1000 thousand reviews and this is a big credit of our reputation and quality. Almost everything you quoted in your review was related to the money! Maybe it is better for you to keep visiting cheaper options. For some people everything taste better when is cheap!
Have a great cheap day!

Food was ok. My angus steak was overcooked. They recommended medium rare and I said yes please and they delivered medium well and in most of the steak well done... the carpaccio was very good but neither myself with the angus steak, my daughter with the tagliatelle bolognese and husband with wagyu ravioli were impressed. The quality of the pasta is very good but overall not Italian quality for the meal.

Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
