We had dinner on a Saturday night, we managed to secure a table without booking in advance even though it was very busy.
Service was very friendly, food was beautiful & very tasty and reasonably priced.
Will definitely visit again.

I love Melbourne for its fabulous food! This restaurant has been in my list for ages, so finally made it here and we were SO glad we did! We shared 4 dishes because everything looked so tempting! The zucchini flowers were stuffed with ricotta and N’Duja - a hot salami spread. This added another dimension to an already perfect dish. The batter was light and crisp, while inside was creamy and spicy. There was a special Cacciotta bruschetta with more N’Duja and a fried cheese. Next we tried the special pasta of tagliatelle with monk fish, cream and vermouth. Yes, an old fashion combination and completely delicious. Last was NZ Salmon that had a thin crispy skin with moist well seasoned flesh. Beautiful! We absolutely must return! Thanks, Steve, for a wonderful time!

My wife and I had another excellent meal at Il Solito Posto.
The pasta specials are always good and the regular menu offers a great choice.
We paired the meal with a glass of Pinot Noir from Geelong.
A perfect end to a movie date night.

Best Italian restaurant offering a nice variety of good food for a reasonable price. We have been patronising Il Solito for many years and love every experience. Some of the wait staff are quite quirky which adds to the fun experience. Food is of exceptional quality and would not hesitate in recommending.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. My partner and I celebrated our anniversary in the sub-basement section of the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The staff were attentive, we had little to no wait times for drinks and meals. We shared the best Caprese I’ve ever had for entree, our pasta mains were al dente with no faults and the soft cantered chocolate pudding was light and delicious. We will definitely be making a return!

Let's get out of Asia for once, ltalia this time🇮🇹
There's no mocktail on the menu, but you ask, they can surprise you. It's very delicious🍹
Oyster $4 each, very fresh. Most of the pasta has entrees or main size, there are many pasta with seafood which are i love, took me a while to pick one. At the end i chose linguine seppia $34.50. It's homemade squid ink linguine, the texture is prefect, matching with the calamari; fennel seeds not everyone like it, but in this doesn't has very strong or takeover the taste. 🦑🐙
One of the special on the day was snapper, but it wasn't very special. I wanted to order the tiramisu, then the waiter extremely recommended the panna cotta, so i tried it, wasn't the impressive, especially i'm not a big fans of poach fruit, there were poached pear.🍐🍐
The molten chocolate cake was warm and melting inside, well it is what it should be.🍫🍫🍫

I had visited here a while ago,and some years later it is still good. We managed to get a table without booking and the ambience is nice. The staff are friendly, and the food good. The menu is a bit limited, and when I ordered a slight variant of one dish, the variant didn't happen. But no big deal. The non-pasta dishes are expensive and it would have been nice to see a cheaper one. Good to see that one can order a small pasta serving.
It is odd that the web site states that the restaurant is in a 'sub-basement'. While there may be a lower level that I didn't see, the main restaurant is on the ground floor. So, don't let that put you off!
There are not that many restaurants up this end of the city, so it is definitely a useful find.

Tucked away in the basement of 113 Collins St. this is as authentic Italian as it gets. Even with its limited post- COVID menu, it delivers tasty Italian food. Friendly service with attentive staff!

Timing: approx. an hour and a half
Portions too modest: a plate of mixed fried food not very abundant for the price of the dish (€18)
High prices compared to market prices
Service: not up to the type of restaurant

We were actually on our way to another place and saw this one and it looked interesting. Checked out the menu and chalkboard specials and knew we needed to eat here.
No reservations but they fit us righ in. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Started with the herb bread which was great BUT once we got to our order of risotto and rigatoni, then that was it. Pasta was very fresh, herbs and seasoning were just right. Just a very enjoyable meal and would love to go back!

Amazing little basement rustic Italian restaurant, which sounds harsh because it’s full of character and atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Most importantly the food is excellent - Polpette, always a good test of an osteria were perfect and nice with mash like creamy polenta. The wine list made it for me. Omg.

This is the quintessential Melbourne laneway secret.
The food, ambience and hospitality are all on point. A restrained classic Italian menu, with a good range of specials. The wine list is fairly priced with a good local and international selection.
The lynchpin dishes are the calamari and the veal ragu, both are outstanding. Follow it up with a tiramisu and you are as close to eating in Italy as you can get.
This is one slice of Melbourne you shouldn’t miss.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. My sister had been suggested this restaurant as a ‘Melbourne Institution’ by an airbnb she stayed at so we knew we had to try it!
We arrived for our booking on a Saturday night around 6, and the restaurant was already packed. The restaurant is charming in its decor, intimate and cosy.
For entree, I had the calamari and it was so lovely. For main I had the linguine fruitti de mare, with a side of the Italian roasted potatoes (also delicious). It was one of the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then for dessert I had the chocolate pudding, with an espresso martini.
The service is excellent, attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for incredible Italian food. I’d love to visit again one day in the future!

This restaurant has some of the best food in the CBD in Melbourne, the
truffle risotto was absolutely amazing. My friends both had the pasta frutti di mare which was very good. The staff was great and very helpful. our waiter just started his job, but he did it in a wonderful way. I'll definitely be coming back!

Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
