We came here for breakfast as part of the building tour. We arrived at 8.05 for an 8.30 session and were not allowed to sit down and pay for a coffee.....we were told that we would not be seated until 8.30 like everyone else. After finding coffee elsewhere we came back at about 8.20 and most people were seated. The food was good, but not great and the pro secco was very sweet. Dessert was fine. The tour of the building was very good and the guide was fabulous. At $65 pp person I think it is very expensive for what you get.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable morning with the breakfast and tour package. Breakfast was filling and well presented and we didn’t feel at all rushed. The tour was good fun and gave great information and insights into this rather spectacular building and the restorations. We both felt this was good value and would recommend it to locals and visitors alike.

The 1932 Cafe & Restaurant is on the ground floor of the Manchester Unity building, one of Australia's premier Art Deco buildings. The Café, which dates from between the wars, serves good coffee and cake. You can sit inside or out. The Cafe has gluten free options; it also have a full bar. I have been to the 1932 Cafe molre than once and I have always enjoyed it.

We booked the $75 meal and tour package for four people so paid a total of $300 for lunch and a tour of the Manchester Unity building.
The tour was excellent - Interesting and well informed.
The meal however, was pretty average. Lukewarm food and one of our group doesn’t drink so was charged an extra $7.50 for a soft drink.
Would thoroughly recommend the tour, but sadly not the meal.

The tour of the Manchester Unity Building was great, very interesting and our tour guide was lovely, informative, and made sure everyone could hear when she was talking.
Our lunch wasn't great. It wasn't terrible but not the delicious lunch it looked when I booked the tickets. Our cauliflower bits were very overcooked although tasty once you got past the batter. My prosecco was half a glass, we had to keep asking for water (it was a very hot day) I didn't realise it was a set menu (probably didn't read the fine print) and the food wasn't the sort of thing my husband is keen to eat, although the arancini ball was nice.
Worth doing but better if you could do it without paying for the average food.

We arrived early for our booked lunch and tour of the MU building. We asked if we could buy a couple of glasses of wine and it all seemed too much like hard work so we walked off and spent our money elsewhere. We came back for the
Iunch and ordered from the set menu but the staff member who took our order didn’t tell us that we got small amounts of everything on the menu. The cauliflower bites were the best part of the meal - everything else I could have left - not horrible just bland. They also forgot to serve bread to us until after we had eaten the nice cheese. We were served a nice glass of Prosecco. It was a lovely atmosphere with the Art Deco decor.

Nothing special to be honest. Didn’t find it especially artsy, or the staff especially kind. The menu was pretty standard and the prices were quite high for what I got.
Ordering a salad, smoked salmon and a hash brown. It was just that, which is fine. Except the hash brown looked and tasted like a frozen one, which as a carbohydrate lover, was quite disappointing as really, that’s why I ordered the dish. Although the dill mayonnaise was pretty great.
Was still a nice place to sit and eat in the city. A little away from the hustle and bustle. Just don’t think I’ll be back for more.

The 1932 Cafe and Restaurant is at the base of the Manchester Unity Building, which was built in 1932 at the height of the Great Depression. The Cafe is in Art Deco style, it is a fine place for morning tea. The staff are helpful and the menu is welcoming.

Booked the Cheese and Wine tasting 3.45 to 6.00 pm. After doing something similar overseas, it didn't compare to say Europe. The tour was very expensive for what you get. I guess it's because Australian Labour is so expensive. Food was minimal. Wines small, but average. Building tour was limited. Nicely done, but only 80 years of history. I did expect something special. The building has been excellently restored. But compare to 500 plus year old homes else where that are proud of their heritage. All Australians want to do is get rid of their historical buildings and history. Shame this is only one of the rare ones preserved. Not even 1800's built in 1932.

I was so disappointed when arriving at the cafe. Where are all those fabulous prints on the wall, all gone, the cafe looked bare due to no decor and there was no atmosphere. It was one of my favorite places to have a lunch or coffee when in the city. Food was very average, sandwiches or pastries were all that was on offer. What happened to the beautiful vibrant cafe 1932 that was?

Our meal was lovely, along with a glass of bubbly and finishing with good coffee. The tour started and we were excited to see this iconic building. The tour guide was terrific outlining the tour. Unfortunately, I became ill and was unable to continue. The staff from Cafe 1932 were extremely kind looking after me until I was able to leave. Thank you so much. Hopefully We’ll be able to finish the tour one day.

A fascinating tour of this beautifully iconic building, capably and knowledgeably guided by our guide. The restored areas are simply stunning - thank goodness for the keen eye, attention to detail and appreciation of the period shown by the benefactor and archtitects.
The lunch, however, was disappointing and took too long.

Had wanted to do this tour for ages & its restored floors didn't disappoint. Could have done without the lunch. Very ordinary. The cafe staff & tour guide were great though. Was looking forward to the 'information package' offered at the end of the tour only to find when I opened it up on getting home that it was nothing more than an advertisement for the benefactor's dental practice. Still I thank him for his generosity & ongoing care of this beautiful Melbourne building.

Tours of the Art Deco Manchester Unity building have reopened and we thoroughly enjoyed ours. The knowledgeable guide and staff made the tour a very enjoyable experience and the restored parts of the building are fascinating, especially for design fans. Breakfast was fresh and nicely presented but not the highlight.

Very strange breakfast with cheese and crackers a corn fritter, fruit and a little cold bacon hamburger. The Prosecco was not appropriate for breakfast - the cakes were ok. Overall a disappointing start to a good tour.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
