Three of us were so impressed, eggs Benedict were an absolute standout, fruit toast best ever, and pancakes were spot on. The coffee was what you would expect from any of the Lygon Street cafes. Highly Highly recommend for breakfast. Thanks

Popped in here with a group of 8 and they managed to seat us with no booking, which was great. Service was friendly and the place was nice and warm on a suddenly wintry evening. There was a bit of something for everyone and I had the gnocchi, expecting it to be amazing as it is made fresh on the... More

The food was fresh and service quick. Great coffee and they knew how to make a decent pot of tea. A very enjoyable breakfast.

The food was good, but not the best I had ever had. Service lacked. Not bad just not the best. The area is a hotspot foe great eateries and night life. This place could have done better.

Very friendly, charming staff but the food was not good. The pizzas had no flavour, and were soggy in the middle and I mean like eating doh. Very disappointing, I could have gotten better at our local.

Even though we didn';t have a booking on a Saturday night, we luckily got a table at this wonderful restaurant. The gnocchi was divine as was the pizza entree. Definitely worth visiting.

Ordered 2 pizzas- both were described to have mushrooms on them. While the pizzas tasted ok, the total amount of sliced mushrooms on BOTH PIZZAS probably totaled one whole mushroom. I've never seen such scantily topped pizzas! Definitely not visiting this restaurant again!

I went to University Cafe with no expectations of just how good the pizza would be. The crust was fresh and light, the fillings fresh and worked well together. I has the calzone 1952 and my friend had the universita. Accompanied by fresh lemon in a liter of San Pellegrino, it was very relaxed and the food was very good.... More

Universita cafe' has really improved it's act. The baby snapper, baked spatchcock, fried flathead were all superb. Plain fresh simple honest well cooked food. Service was on the ball, and the atmosphere was buzzing without being loud. I'll go back again and again whilst they keep up this standard.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
