Where do you get a cheap lunch quickly and with a large group - try this place. There was a great variety of dishes - German themed of course. Schnitzel with mash and salad and sauerkraut or sausages or pulled pork, even a big salad. All around $15.00 or less. Food quality was good for the price. Downside the wooden... More

How good is the pork knuckle. Too big for 1 man. Don't waste the opportunity have a Czech beer and German Wundabar knuckle you won't be disappointed.

Pork knuckle was soft and juicy! Great food. But service was too rushed! We were asked almost 10 times if we want our ice cream to be served even though we are not done with our mains. And this was only 1 hour into our 2hour limit seating!

Such an accommodating restaurant - turned out we arrived 1 week early for our booking! Were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Beers were interesting and varied and the crispy pork knuckle on the share platter was amazing! I do suggest that this is enough food for 4 people, i think the menu suggests for 2. The share plate for... More

Food was great. They were able to cater for dietary requirements (gluten, wheat, egg, dairy and legume free). Great atmosphere. Female staff in 'German' waitress costumes, was bit disappointing not to see the male staff in lederhossen. Band was a bit loud, but all in all a great luncheon, especially on Mothers Day.

no service for person of color. Made two attempts. I was seated and they never came to the table. Whites seated after me had their orders taken before me. Do not patronize.

In Melbourne for a couple of days on business, thought I'd check out the culinary delights of the area around the hotel. With my love of all the things German (bier and schnitzels), Hofbräuhaus stood out instantly. A comfortable smallish place serving honest value for money "kind of" traditional German food and bier. Well it's the best you'll get around... More

Food was good. Beers are awesome. Fresh from the tap and each individual one a true beer as from Europe. I recommend the Stiegel beer. Compared to any Aussi beer, these beers there are a dream! Only downside of our visit was that we visited at a public holiday and had to pay a 10% surcharge because of this! This... More

Was pretty good, I wish I booked ahead though as it was Grand Prix weekend and was very busy and noisy, although the 30min wait was worth the money for a fresh prepared chicken schnitzel with cheese and fresh tomatoes on top was very nice. 5***** if not so noisy and sat in the restaurant part not the pub.... pre... Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
