Booked a table for 4 prior to seeing a show. The location is great for a pre-show dinner or drinks and we were really looking forward to it. When we got there, the maitre 'd (I guess) seemed a little distracted and grumpy, and was quite abrupt when we asked if we could move to one of the other unoccupied... More

We were lucky to get in. The place was crammed!! That says something about the food. The menu looks great but we didn't realise one of our group didn't like heat/spice/chilli and regrettably the politically correct among us ordered the mildest courses that could be found and then asked the wait staff to tone it down as much as possible.... We were recommended this restaurant by a friend and it certainly did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, super friendly, attentive staff and incredible food. Great cocktails with some unique flavours you don't see in other bars/restaurants. We sampled a few of the snacks/street foods - the chicken ribs and wagyu spring rolls were particularly amazing, and two mains - the duck... More

We tried to get into a place around the corner but couldn't so we wandered around and a friend remembered this place. We had to wait 45 minutes but weren't disappointed. A great wine recommendation from the bar man (pinot gris) as we started the meal sitting up at the bar. He also helped with making sure we didn't over... More

We had the 10 course set menu for a Sunday lunch, when no a la carte is available. Excellent standard of food for the most part. Initially seeing the tiny portions my husband was a little concerned we would leave hungry but we were both satisfied when leaving without feeling overly full. Good balance between vegetables and protein. Service was... More

We had a fabulous dinner. We ordered the whole snapper and it was delicious. The ginger girl beverage was also a highlight. Recommend a booking but we got lucky as a walk in. Definitely going again

I'm sure this is good with a few friends, but we went as a function with 16 people and they were very disorganised. We had filled out a whole form with dietary requirements and other info the week before we went and they definitely got it because the same form had our credit card details, and the deposit was taken... Was looking forward to dining at Gingerboy's. But at the end of the day it was just average at best. Service and food was just not as good as similar restaurants offering similar food in the CBD. A particular annoyance, when 4 people are paying $90 each for a banquet and you get 7 pieces of food, the waiter didn't... More

Just dined here with family. Was able to get in having booked just half an hour beforehand. The banquet was the only option. Each course was small but after 10 courses, including dessert, we were full. Each course presented a different flavour and the desserts were interesting and refreshing. $40 off with entertainment gold card. Highly recommended.

Wow wow wow! Just get there... food is amazing and the absolute standout is the Rock Flathead in curry sauce! Great service great food and seriously one of Melbourne's great secrets.

Description
The dining experience at Gingerboy is centered on a modern Australian adaptation of the Asian hawker-style street market food. The restaurant's hustle and bustle, its fast-paced, youthful and dynamic environment is influenced not only by the dining culture of Southeast Asia but also by buzzing Asian marketplaces and an Asian sense of colour and fun.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
