Had a great meal here not expensive but not cheap. Our food was fabulous and stylish. Waiting staff were great and its a real treat to watch the chefs in their kitchen as they are in full view within the restaurant. Excellent place for the Foodie types.

There's something about Taxi that makes me feel happy. It's a great modern space with views of the city skyline and Melbourne' s iconic Yarra River. The wine list showcases Australian wine, particularly Victorian wines only exception being French champagne. The wait staff are well informed and attentive without being obtrusive and obviously proud of the food and wine they... More

Food was more than average. However , the atmosphere was average considering it was for Christmas lunch . In fact , it was quite boring . It felt like any lunch during the week. The staff who was serving us was fabulous though .

Wanted to grab a quick meal and thought the vibe of the restaurant from the branding and outside looked more laid back. We should've looked at the menu before getting a table however once seeing the menu we did decide to stay and just have a few starters. Despite the food not really being what we were after it was... Wasn't expecting to find high end eating in the midst of very touristy Federation Square but Taxi Kitchen is just that. Food has a very Asian influence. We had the barramundi fish with head removed at our request! We're sure the chef just shook his head! Food was delicious and service friendly snd helpful. Prices are high end but do... More

So much salt in all the food. Everyone on our table noticed it. I had the chicken breast, size was awesome but dry and the sauce was way too salty. Had dumplings for entree which was excellent but not hard to find good dumplings in CBD. Waitress was into suggestive selling... think McDonalds "would you like fries with that". She... More

This restaurant lives up to its reputation. The staff are friendly and attentive, the service is great, and the menu is excellent. We had the lobster and pork hock dish to share ($95), and were concerned the lobster portion would be minimal. But the lobster tail was a generous size, as was the hock, and everything had been presented in... More

There were five of us who tried 4 different mains and they were all fantastic. The service was OK, not excellent but to be fair, we hadn't booked and they did squeeze us in during a very busy time of year so full marks for effort. p.s The Tortellini is to die for and the salads quite exquisite

Haven't been back here for many years, I decided to book this place for my new year's Eve party. It started off very promising with a phone call to ask for the best seats in and was advised by the manager Simon that the marble bar was the best seat. The booking process was seamless. Upon arrival, we got seated,... More

For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
