Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had a delicious rabbit with revisited Italian roast juice style on side and some oven potato It was long time that rabbit was on my favorite but difficult to find everywhere in Italy especially out of Emilia area I didn’t tried pasta because in...the evening I’m not usually consume it but looks very nice on some plates seen The owner is Italian, he lives in Australia since many years and he put very nice attention on each customers with very warm hospitality…I felt as I was at home All waiters were very friendly and concentrated to satisfy any possible request Continuate così!!!More

This was the last night of our 6 week trip to Australia and we wanted to have a nice last meal before we returned to the UK. SUD was amazing and we couldn't have asked for anything better. There was a slight mix-up over the...booking time, but the owner went out of his way to sort it out and couldn't have made us feel more welcome. This was the best meal we had in Australia. The scallops were beautifully cooked and sweet, the flounder special and John Dory were superb and the chocolate fondant and raspberry sorbet were the best we have eaten anywhere. Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Don't miss this gem.More

We were looking for a quiet restaurant within walking distance of our cbd hotel. This restaurant was recommended and we found it a hidden gem. The food was excellent--service outstanding--and most of all a quiet place where one could have a conversation with dinner partner.

Nice food but felt misled. Asked for a glass of desert wine and was brought one not on the menu, and no mention of price. When I checked the bill later it was $25 for a small desert wine. A restaurant should tell you before...they charge you, especially when other wines by the glass were around $16. I asked for a single scoop of ice cream for desert. Bill was for a full $16 affogato. I asked for that to be fixed and they took off $3. What would they charge for an espresso shot and nip of spirits -- way more than $3 I would think. Once I'd left and checked bill more carefully, I just felt ripped off, but all with charming smiles and lots of banter. I'm not going back. This was a test meal to see if I did a corporate dinner at Sud; no way.More

One of the best Italian meals I have ever had. Meatballs are to die for. Great wine list and great table service. Lamb shoulder entree was outstanding. Oysters were a little on the plumb/meaty side. Pasta dishes were exceptional. Truly a great dining experience.

Italian restaurant in central Melbourne which goes the extra mile. Relaxed environment however ‘classy’ setting within the restaurant. Menu reasonably diverse however for an Italian restaurant I would have expected more pasta dishes. Middle range regarding expense and food delicious. Friendly and professional staff and...efficient ice.More

Good was not good. That can happen. They offered us wine for 80 dollar but invoiced 125 dollar. Same as starters they suggested 2 from 25 and invoiced 25 each. The wine was good.

Great cosy place, you would barely notice. The service was top notch but the food was simply amazing, beef cappacio was sublime. Mains had something for everyone and truffle infused mash was delicious. Dessert we had a special , panna cotta with mulled wine poached...pear, so smooth and creamy- just perfect. Best pana cotta I have eaten. It has been here for years and for good reason, nice and warm on a chilly winters evening. We will definitely be back.More

Blink and you'll miss it. Only a small frontage, a little like Aladdin's cave. Not a large menu but some wonderful choices. For once I decided to go outside my normal boring selections and chose the quail. You won't be disappointed. My wife selected the...steak, and it was tender with great flavour. The wine list was extensive, specially the Italian selection. What was going to be an hour lunch turned into 2 hours.More

Great experience, table of 4 friends, from the moment we walked in felt welcoming and friendly. Can’t understand the previous comment about being a weird experience. We thought all the staff were original and genuine, we laughed and really enjoyed the evening. The restaurant is...small so there was a bit of theatre and all of the patrons seemed to enjoy themselves. The wine was a suggestion from the waiter, Italian, but didn’t disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, risotto had an unusual twist to it but very flavoursome. Veal was tender and well presented, pork chop another hit. Desert was a huge triumph, doughnuts, exceptional and the cherry torte, delicious. Would highly recommend this little Italian gem, but would suggest booking in advance to ensure a seat.More

This place gets solidly good reviews and, in Melbourne for a few days, we ring to be told they can't fit us in - unless we come late (which actually suits our plans) so we're happy to snag a table at relatively short notice. We...note when we arrive that there's plenty of vacant tables. First impression is being greeted and seated by the maitre'd (or perhaps the owner). This guy has more front than Myer - but there is far too much theatre and not much substance. Our sense into the evening is the other delightful - but shy - waitress is quite intimidated by the performance of the main guy. Anyway - the food. A risotto described at length by our man as resembling an upside down pizza (visibly) has lgood foundations of flavour but the carnaroli rice is just not cooked sufficiently - and is also barely hot enough. A big fail. My partner's dish was tasty. During our mains, something goes wrong at another table and the big guy appears briefly to try to resolve - but then, interestingly, vanishes for the night. At this point in the evening, the Irish chef appears and starts talking to this one and that one at the top of her voice - calling everyone darling or Bella. Just very weird!!! And so we will opt to get out Italian elsewhere the next time we're in Melbourne.More

And a very pleasant night was had by all. Highly recommended and pleasantly surprised at their extensive range of 20+ Grappa's, surely a sign of an authentic Italian restaurant!
