Excellent restaurant, great ambience service and food.Love the sign Stay calm and eat curry. La Taj Chicken curry. Special. Hotter than tika masala is very tasty. The vegetarian platter is highly recommended

The decor is colourful and yet tasteful. I just wanted a simple lunch and a Mushroom Masala (with a mild sauce and peas as well as mushrooms) was just the thing. I was brought water on request and it was topped up as I consumed it. The curry was listed as mild and it had a warming amount of chilli (but not burning level - two grades of curries were beyond "Mild"). I enjoyed my lunch and saw that many of the other guests were recognised as "regulars".

Great city Indian, does all the essentials well, good tandoori platter, excellent masala fish, plentiful kingfishers etc. Le Taj comes into its own, however, with the Bhoot Jolokia Curry - made with a generous amount of Ghost or Naga chillies the chicken Bhoot Jolokia is a menacing little number (eat all your mild dishes first). This is not a dish to be trifled with - but if you like that sort of thing (and I do) then giddy up. the Bhoot delivers a brutal up front mouth kick that is complemented by a powerful and at times overwhelming finish - a gift that keeps giving for a long time. An excellent curry for the genre.

We were hungry and quickly checked on TA for the nearest Indian with a decent score. Poppadoms bought in, pickles wtf, Onion Bhaji average. Mains were a basic curry Gravy with no aromatic spices served with light and fluffy basmati that was, sadly, only like warm. We ate it but somewhat annoyed to find that, after checking the bill later, we had been charged more than the menu prices. Probably one of the poorest curries we've had.....AVOID!!!

We used to eat here frequently when we were locals 17 years ago. The food was delicious then, and fortunately still is today. Since that time, we have travelled extensively throughout India, and appreciate the delicious authentic food at Le Taj even more. Great location, great service, good value and absolutely delicious food. I hope we can come again soon!

Down in Melbourne for a few days and this places was recommended by a local so we gave it a go and can’t say enough about the place.
Have been in Australia for 18 years and this is if not the best I’ve been to it’s very very close to it.
Out table had 4 different meals and everyone was superb, great value, great food great service we only wish it wasn’t a plane ride away from home.
Fabulous !

Terrible food, I will never order from here again. I had the chiken tikka masala and couldn't eat it. Threw most of it out.

Great quality ingredients make the food here at this CBD edge restaurant a treat. Service always up to highest standards. Have had many an enjoyable night BYO wines also a bonus

We have eaten here twice in the last 6 weeks and enjoyed the food / service each time. More recently we had a large family celebration for 13 people and the restaurant was busy with a couple of other large groups and some smaller tables. We had a range of vegetarian and meat based entrees and main meals. Everyone commented about how flavourful the food was throughout the night. Service was friendly and efficient and the 3.5 hours passed very quickly. Highly recommended.

This was a terrible experience. Onion Bhajia were good but everything else very ordinary. We couldn't tell the difference between Butter chicken and Beef Madras, they were virtually the same colour. Both meals were fatty. Madras was like a gravy and both meals lacked flavour. Some chicken was raw.
I mentioned to waitress and she took fatty bits to chef but no response. Guy at reception wasn't bothered. No wonder the restaurant was quiet. I would not recommend.

Eaten here many times, but my first review. Excellent host who remembers your favourite dishes. The Tandoori Platter is always my entree, followed by Beef Vindaloo nice and hot and Rogan Josh or Chicken Tika - basmati rice and garlic naan always magnificent - small but good drinks selection all reasonably priced. If you find a better all round Indian restaurant experience in town, let me know - this ones a little gem đź‘Ť

My husband and I have been ordering take away from Le Taj once a week for almost a year. The food is consistently good and the staff are pleasant. We highly recommend it.

My wife and I chose to have the "Set Menu 2" for dinner, which consisted of the following:
Entree: Veg Samosa and Chicken Tikka
Main: Butter Chicken, Lamb Rogan Josh, Veg of the Day, Saffron Rice, and Naan
Sides: Raita and Papadums
Desert: Gulab Jamun
Absolutely delicious, perfect portions served with pride. I would highly recommend this!

Had very nice food here although the breads were a bit salty. What made this less enjoyable was the behavior of the lady who served us. Very friendly at the beginning but was doing everything to get us to leave after the meal. It was still early so it wasn’t like we were last to leave.

I got takeaway from here last week. My complaints are:
1. Chicken was raw inside
2. The chutney was just apple pie filling
3. Samosas had a black mashed potato inside
4. The saffron rice was just regular rice with a few drops of yellow food coloring
5. The Raita was just tub yoghurt with grated carrot and zucchini in it
6. The sausage was an old dry chorizo
I wont be getting takeaway from here again.
