What a fantastic place this is, we ordered grilled octopus, clams, mussels, padron and patatas bravas. Oh so good, like being in Madrid or Barcelona. The Cava was good too. Would definitely go again.

Cecina dish was delicious. Pimientos de Padròn were not as I expected but the staff were very nice and compensated. It is not a typical Spanish bar but has some nice samples.

Great tapas, tasty mains, good service. Movida is an energetic, iconic Melbourne restaurant. Funky location on Hosier Lane. Stuffed zucchini flower tapas were delicious along with the amazing melt in your mouth been cheeks with cauliflower puree. Worth a visit.

This place is the best. That is the only thing you really need to know if you love excellent food, good friendly service and a funky decor is that this is the place for you. My personal favourite tapa is the anchoa. Melba toast, anchovy fillet and a quenelle of smoked tomato sorbet. If they ever take that off the... More

Whilst visiting Melbourne for the first time, we decided to visit this restaurant. It appeared to usually have a queue of people wanting a table. We love Mediterranean food and decided to try the food. We waited for 25 minutes before being seated. We decided to try three dishes. For the price, the portions were extremely small and average in... More

Tapas with a fine dining touch. It was pretty good but it's not like they brought Spanish food to the heights that chin chin did for Thai. I had a chicken rice which was tasty but chicken unevenly cooked. The croquette and zucchini flower was a yawn. Also had a sandwich and pate which were a bit better. It was... More

Food and drinks were still excellent, but not as impressed with Movida Original. Staff weren't as friendly, I felt like an inconvenience and we were somewhat rushed through our food. I still recommend going to a Movida restaurant at least once, but this occasion was disappointing.

Very social, busy and buzzy restaurant. Good service. Quality food, but a bit limited on small tapas. Mains: I am a big seafood lower and apart from the fish of the day and calamari dishes there was nothing else seafood. Common Movida, you are one of the best in Melbourne. I expected it to be a bit more adventurous. Last... More

Back in Melbourne for a second visit in six months and straight back to at this restaurant. You really can't fail with any of the tapas on the menu. We had the pork croquette and the amazing zucchini flower among others and I had the barramundi fish of the day. Overall I would say the food is very good through... More

When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the

cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes.

It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow

braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
