This is one of my favourite pubs in Melbourne. It oozes history and character and the old building looks a little out of place down an alleyway surrounded by high rise office blocks but means it is reasonably peaceful sat outside. The beer selection wasn’t...More

In Melbourne? Then try this place. We found it wandering up the streets in the city. This is now my favourite pub in Melbourne. Just one of those little old pubs in the city you just dont find anymore. Service is second to none, food...More

This isn’t the oldest pub in Melbourne, but it’s close. I like the historical pubs and the Mitre didn’t disappoint. The bar staff helped me choose from a few beers I hadn’t had before and were just what I was in the mood for.

This is a great place. It reminded me of the old pubs in The UK. The barkeeper was friendly and offered up a few interesting ales. Stacks of history make the Mitre Tavern an interesting place to visit. For an out of towner, it may...More

A wonderful and very historically-significant tavern just off Collins Street. Upstairs to the main steakhouse. The dining room is rather baronial; beautiful stained-glass windows. Tucked away in a lane around the corner from our hotel was the Mitre tavern. Great discovery. We loved this old pub that was bustling on a Friday night. The best parmy ever eaten, our only complaint was it was so big we couldn't have...More

A lovely hotel where you can stand outside and enjoy a nice cold beer. The Mitre has a lovely Steak Restaurant upstairs and their steaks are up with the best steak restaurants in Melbourne. Maybe a tad pricey however very nice meal

Well we all loved it. Tucked away in Bank Place, for visitors be a place not easy to discover, Old English style pub, full of character and totally not your renovated yuppy place. Felt I was in a pub in Oxford UK. We were shown...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
