Looking forward to a birthday dinner, unfortunately, not a happy evening! After reading good reviews La Luna was a great disappointment. The noise was literally unbearable! I could see why there was no one there over the age of 40 except for us two. We...started with a small shared platter of charcuterie which was good, but would have been better with some crusty bread instead of a tiny, and I mean tiny bowl of crackers. We ordered the fillet steak 200gms $56, plus kipfler potatoes to share $9.50. We are not big meat eaters. The fillet steak that we buy from the local supermarket, is better quality and tastier than the one we were served at La Luna, which had a fair amount of gristle. They are supposed to have a reputation for good meat! Our experience was not the case! $56 for a very average to poor quality steak without sides except for a few underdone beans is not a fair deal. Also there was quite a long wait between entree and main course. Perhaps we could not fault the restaurant for this as we did change our arrival time from 8pm to 7.30 pm. The chocolate mousse was very good, served with a generous helping of mixed berries and caramelised hazelnuts. That was $12 and we thought good value. Unfortunately, on paying the bill we found we had been charged $35 corkage for a 3/4 bottle of wine that we brought with us. The internet site did say they offered BYO, but did not mention the $35 charge! Overall, we would not revisit La Luna, shockingly noisy, the quality of the food does not live up to the hype, and the venue and ambience is not of a particularly high standard. The wait staff were pleasant but the overall experience was very underwhelming!More

Our visit to La Luna was our first post-lockdown restaurant treat after so many months of eating at home. We are fans of Adrian’s television shows and I agree with his “salt loves meat and meat loves salt” Bad Chef philosophy of cooking. The restaurant...vibe was a perfect balance of cosy and lively. Something not all manage to achieve. Our welcome was friendly and efficient and Jane our waitress was both knowledgeable about the food and wine and just good fun. Our home made salami and pickled onions were a perfect way to start dinner, matched with a tasty, full bodied Shiraz. After main course, Adrian (the TV celebrity owner) walked past our table and my wife asked about the cabbage I had eaten of all things. He stopped and gave us an entertaining and educational explanation of the recipe and we chatted for a little while about all manner of things. He then insisted we take one of his bespoke salt shakers home. A kind gesture. Some time later, Adrian returned and asked if we would like to see what is obviously his pride and joy - a meat fridge out the back of the kitchen stuffed full of aging sides of beef. It was certainly something to behold and the attention to detail they take in preparation is reflected in the food they serve. Overall, we had a great night. Really good, honest food - tasty and interesting without being unnecessarily fussy. Plenty of choice on the menu, though unsurprisingly a Vegan would no doubt struggle. Still, they’re hardly the target audience of the “Bad Chef”. We’ll be going back for sure.More

My husband and I enjoyed a thoroughly lovely evening at La Luna. He adored the home made salami and the pork with the crackling, while I found my fillet Mignon cooked to perfection. The desert platter was also with recommending. The Passat? alone is worth...returning for. I was also really impressed by a waitress, Jane. Just the right combination of friendliness and knowledgeable. It was also a treat to speak with Adrian Richardson, he was generous with his time and sense of humour. Very much looking forward to returning for another special occasion.More

Whether you enjoy Italian preserved meats or a steak or pork then this is the restaurant for you. Sharing the cold meats entree resulted in generous portions of delicious meats whilst the steaks are really excellent, succulent and beautifully cooked.

We took my Dad here for his birthday and suggested that they have the Chef's Feast with us. It is a splendor of tastes and textures. My Mum knows that I ordinarily do not eat smoked salmon, so when it was served to the table...she wondered what I was going to eat. I then had to tell her that this is the only place that I will eat smoked salmon. She agreed with me that it was superior to any, that she had ever tasted. The variety of dishes is truly amazing and the crispy pig's ears were a hit. No, they do not look like the pig's ears you see in the pet food aisle. Cured meats, steak, vegetables, salads, gnocchi and the best ever, creme brulee, all went down well. Great atmosphere and wonderful service. i will never tire of eating here.More

You have to be a carnivore, but if eating meat is ok with you, then you couldn't do better. La Luna is a bit of a north Carlton institution. The food is simply....wonderful. Service exemplary.... friendly and competent. It's pricey, but that's to be expected...for a bistro of this calibre. Give it a try! IMore

We have been visiting La Luna for several years. Even held a birthday function here a few years ago. They took us through their cool room and upstairs where they store their cured meat. I have been impressed with them in the past. On our...last visit, my steak was very stringy and tough. It was so chewy that my jaw was sore halfway through the steak. I pointed this out to the waiter. Instead of taking the steak back to the chef to inspect, he just said "aged meat is tough. If you wanted soft food, don't order the steak next time." 😳😧 I think of myself as a steak connoisseur. In fact, I can grill steaks better than half the restaurants in Melbourne. So it is rare for me to order steaks out. La Luna was an exception. I always looked forward to their steaks in the past. That was my last visit to La Luna. Terrible steak and bad service.More

Enjoyed a delightful birthday dinner at La Luna, it has a great casual atmosphere, friendly professional staff & most importantly, delicious food. The highlight was the crackling wrapped loin of roast pork, I’ll be going back just for that😋😋😋
