We had breakfast at this cafe this morning. I had the vegetarian breakfast and my husband had poached eggs with bacon. We both had fresh juice and coffee. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. Very friendly staff with excellent food. We will return!

Fantastic atmosphere. Our server was impersonable and professional at the same time. He appeared to enjoy his job. When they where getting ready to close he came out and asked us if we wanted any more hot drinks as they where going to turn the coffee machine off for the day. Our meals where delious. I had the Poppy Benedict. It was a perfect serving. My photo i took after i started eating. The sauce is served in a little saucepan dish and one of the eggs is on the potato.

There were seats outside under cover, but I chose to sit inside where it was still cool. I ordered a coffee and a toasted Reuben sandwich. The prices were the usual and both items were typical in quality. I was brought a bottle of chilled water with my coffee - always a sign of good service. Coffee was strong, but too bitter for my taste. The Reuben was a bit messy, but the thick napkin helped out there. The decor was interesting and comfortable.

My family and I have been coming here for years. Always great food and coffee. Kid-friendly and a relaxed atmosphere. The Ruben is awesome 👍🏼 Staff efficient and timely. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Nice cafe, not busy, great full veggie breakfast. Air conditioning was a relief. Friendly staff. Good portion size. Area outside when the weather is not too hot.

Hot Poppy is becoming our breakfast go to when we visit Melbourne. Coffees and juices are excellent. All day breakfast options are so fresh and interesting. Today I had the Eggs Benedict which is on Rosti rather than muffin. Perfect in every element.
A very happy breakfast indeed.

Have been coming here for over 20 years. Always excellent. The consistency over such an extended period is a testament to Jody, the proprietor. I am so impressed, by not just her longevity as the owner, but how she has managed to maintain such high standards.

I came here on a freezing Sunday and it was one of the very, very few places with outdoor heating. We've got a dog- so we're always on the lookout for outdoor seating/heating combos.
Staff made the place- while the interior was your standard Melbourne cafe fair, nothing new or unique- the staff were the sell point. Friendly, on point, timely, courteous (and loved the dog). The New Zealander girl that served us was especially pleasant (and tremendous with Nala the dog).
The coffee was well made- strong- not bitter, good after taste and mouth feel. Neglected to ask what bean/blend they use but will certainly return. Slices were crumbly and sweet but not too sweet (even the caramel).
Will be back!

Not one of the best cafes I've visited. Passable though. Breakfast was okay, but not the best that I've had, and tea was nice. Service was okay as well. Not one of the best I've been to though.

I continue to return to Hot Poppy time and time again. Why?
(1) Their regular menu is varied, creative and delicious. It caters for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Every dish is so creative and different - a twist on the standard breakfast dishes.
(2) They constantly change and experiment with their special menu. I am always surprised and delighted when I try a special.
(3) They are dog friendly. Always a bonus in my book.
Note: in my view, their breakfast/brunch menu is better than their lunch menu. They also have an inside area and a large outside area, the latter is heated during winter.

Fourth day in Melbourne - and third breakfast here. That says how much we rated this place. We had to be somewhere by 8am the other day, otherwise it would have been 4 days in a row.

Definitely, Hot Poppy is good option to enjoy a coffee. The truth is I have never try with the menu. But, it looks yummy. The staff are friendly
