Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our first time at Florentino. It's an authentic Italian fine experience with low lighting, soft music, crisp linen, silverware & friendly, attentive wait staff in suits & ties. Don't book if you like bright lights, doof doof music & patrons who noisily drag...their chairs in & out across hard floors. Instead, expect 5-star service e.g. a complimentary welcoming snack & small icy dish to finish. My Italian wife & I decided to share everything & staff accommodated us brilliantly. Our personal selections/recommendations: carciofi (it's actually just one carciofo but enough for two), gnocchi (fluffy melt-in-the mouth pillows), cappelletti (a little too firm & dry for our liking), vitello (best we've ever had), patate (too soft, not crunchy outside & fluffy inside like we routinely cook them at home), fagiolini & piselli (which we hadn't ordered but very nice & enough for 3-4 ppl). We had actually ordered the house salad which did arrive & is a very simple, small bowl of lettuce & radicchio, just enough for 2 ppl. but for $16?!! The wine list is a daunting encyclopedia of world wines. We struggled to find a bottle of anything under $155 so be prepared to pay more that. We settled on what proved to be a very satisfying Italian Nebbiolo. Did we enjoy Florentino? Absolutely, yes. Would we go back? Probably not. It was a once in a lifetime experience but we are blessed with so many other quality restaurants in Australia . PS We were told that Guy Grossi still fronts up every day to manage & cook.More

I have eaten at many Italian restaurants, including Michelin starred ones. This one was very average. There was nothing special about the pastas, they were ok but not special. We ordered more than 10 dishes and nothing blew me away. The portions were small. The...seafood dishes had very few pieces of sad looking seafood. The service, too, was ok. Not very friendly or helpful, and it was sometimes difficult to get the server's attention.More

Having heard it was one of Melbournes most exclusive restaurants I was very disappointed with the food . The Seafood spaghetti was rather oily and the seafood did not taste fresh and were suffocated by the sauce. However the sorbet / cucumber cleanser was a...pleasant surprise. The service was inconsistent with empty wine glasses left till near the end and twice having ask to have empty plates removed. And then the Bill !! Overpriced and presumptuous. Poor value for what was served overall.More

Overly expensive for mediocre food. My husband amost choked on a large fish bone which was left in his risotto, and the complementary duck ravioli dish offered as compensation was overly seasoned and undercooked. Generally, most dishes were also overly salty so the flavours of...each dish were lost, and the apple cake dessert was dry. A disappointing and expensive evening.More

Dined here as part of a family group on Monday 24th of july. Food was good but portions were ridiculous, service was polite and professional, everything was definitely too expensive for what was provided. Worst part was hearing the chef yelling at staff words that...had nothing to do with being busy. Unprofessional and disgusting behaviour that definitely shouldn't affect our experience. I am an hospitality person and I know yelling happens in every kitchen but abusing people it's a whole different story. Not sure if we'll ever go back.More

Very ordinary experience. Service very slow, we were in the restaurant more than 1/2 hour before we received anything but water. Had to ask repeatedly for service. Had the set menu, 2 courses out of 6 were acceptable, the rest were less than average. The...bill was huge, food/service ordinary, will never go back.More

The food was fresh and cooked to perfection but other than the gnocchi there were no outstanding dishes. I would have expected more of a wow factor for food at this price range. Was expecting to be seated in the iconic mural room but was...shunted to a smaller room that looked like somebody’s bedroom. It would have been courteous of the restaurant to let us know that this was the case and we would have rescheduled. Instead we were charged full price and didn’t have the full Florentino experience. Very arrogant and disrespectful. The waiting staff were overly formal. A throwback to an era long gone. I wouldn’t go there again.More

The front of house staff were outstanding - knowledgeable and helpful without being overbearing. The meals are a set price per person with plenty of choice for each course. In addition to food ordered a number of other smalldishes were served. The food was excellent...but at $450 for lunch for two the price was over the top!More

I often dined at Grossi Florentino before moving from Melbourne to Queensland nearly 20 years ago. This visit was my first time back, and I was disappointed with the food. I score the customer service and ambience 10/10, and while the food was flavoursome and...beautifully cooked, it lacked its usual WOW factor. Nevertheless, the Chocolate Soufflé (which has appeared on the menu for over 50 years) did not disappoint; it’s still as light as a feather.More

It seems that the greater the reputation of a restaurant, the greater the need for some to find fault, any fault. Thankfully, I was able to negotiate entering the premises without any mishap unlike another reviewer.. Sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own clumsiness....My wife and I attended for our 42nd wedding anniversary. We had wonderful food and wonderful service and were hosted by Carlo Grossi who was most affable. We had ample time to enjoy our ( sumptuous and generous) meals and the atmosphere of this venerable establishment. We had ample time to reflect and recall the many anniversary meals we had shared so far and this was certainly one of the highlights. Thank you Florentino for a memorable outing and the best tiramisu in Melbourne.More

Two chef hats and most certainly well deserved. There is so much to like about Grossi Florentino. The menu is exciting with every dish served undoubtedly with the love generations have put in to the recipes. Modernly romantic and oozing so much passion you feel...like you are nonnas prized guest! The first thing I will say is that upon entry, you need to be warned that there is a step inside the door. I wasn't warned, and only for the fact a table stopped my falls, I would have fallen head over heels. I jarred...my shoulder, but at no time did the door person or owner asked if I was OK. They seriously need to place a warning sign on that door. They do not offer ala carte. You now have a choice of two or three courses. We chose the three courses. For the first course, I chose the duck liver pate, and my friend chose scallops. The duck liver pate was disgusting, and I barely had two bites. I told the waiter. He apologised and offered another first course. I declined, and he said he'll give us one free dessert. The pasta course (Paccheri, Salsiccia, Sausage, Cavalo Nero, White Wine) was brilliant. Well seasoned and tasty. I could have had a second serving. We both had the scotch fillet (medium and medium-rare). As a side, we ordered the Potatoes, Rosemary, Garlic. Our steaks arrived, but the potatoes were nowhere to be seen. We waited a couple of minutes and called the server, who said they'd be there shortly. Side dishes need to come at the same time as the main. I had my steak as medium, but it was more medium-well. Wasn't happy but it was edible. Pretty ordinary. At the beginning, I asked for the wine list, which is a 60+ page binder. I thought a burgundy would be good, but at $2,500, a bottle that was a no. I looked at a merlot, and they were priced at $350 or more per bottle. We finally found an $80 red blend. The waiter was excellent, but what let thing down was the servers. They need to be on the ball rather than lacklustre. All up, it cost $400 for four courses, two cocktails, and a bottle of wine was reasonable. We'll definitely be back, but the servers need to be better.More

Hello, I'm sorry for the delay. No doubt you have already experienced the delight of Grossi Florentino by now. Smart casual is fine, but it's so lovely there and getting dressed up would be nice.
