If you want fawning waiters and 3 Hat Cuisine.....don't come here. However if you like cheap but not necessarily cheerful this is a great place. Business like is the best description. The food is excellent value for money. The entertaining part is seeing who can attract the attention of the wait staff. They move very fast. Having said that -... More

This restaurant has been here for over 40 years . Don't be deceived that there is not enough tables as they have a very big upper level as well. There is a lot of variety to choose from which should suit all tastes. Food is good and they don't skimp on portions. We were able to take leftovers home.

Interesting to read some of the negative reviews. The reviews of it being cheap are very true - this place is dirt cheap. But the sceptics wonder there must be a reason and something has to be wrong. Sure the decor is dated - so what - take your date somewhere else! The place is clean, the service is quick... More

Good tasting food, fast service and large menu to choose from. Always packed so be prepared to wait both lunch and dinner or get there early.

What used to be one of the most opulent Chinese (Cantonese) restaurant in Chinatown have been converted into a Dumpling joint. The former was a 4* and the new dumpling joint is great value. Enjoy.

We mistakenly went here tonight after a fun day out in the city. My first instincts were correct when we walked in - "You get what you pay for". The prices are ridiculously cheap so there has to unfortunately be a downside to that. The decor & ambiance clearly lacking & staff beyond aloof. However, we gave it a go... More

Great food, popular dishes are marked on menu for a reason. They are the go to dishes! Really worth it, love those dumplings

Dumplings 2 out of 5: smelt like facts Chicken soup 1 out of 5. Fatty and chewy Staff dragged out rubbish bags through restaurant - leaked rubbish liquid all over floor. No attempt to clean up mess. Rude and unfriendly staff - swore at us when politely asked for takeaway container Short changed us Should have come back later when... More

Melbourne is expensive generally but here it's great value. You get large sized dishes with really tasty quality food. Their pork pan fried dumplings ($7.50 for 12) are unbelievably good - everyone seems to order a plate of them. As is their Sichuan Chicken (but be warned - it is REALLY hot with a ton of dried chillis). The décor... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
