Good Italian coffee & it was lovely to see almond milk on the menu. Where i come from, this is rare. But that's as good as it got. The waitress was lovely but clueless and couldn't really understand us or the menu. Husband ordered Atlantic eggs. Poached eggs were under cooked. .. still had egg white oozing out. He ordered... Don't try their food! Buy a frozen meal from Coles, Woolworth, etc. and put it in a microwave. Believe me it tastes a lot better than the food here!

We had dinner here and enjoyed the food. Alla matriciana with gnocchi was full of flavour and hit the spot, the best I've had in Lygon Street for years. Bolognese was similar. I'm looking forward to visiting again.

We went there on Good Friday. It's Lucy to find this one as many other restaurants closed due to holiday. Their price is pretty reasonable compare to the restaurants in that area. We ordered cafe, pizza and pasta. I like cafe and pasta but the hot salami pizza, too salty to eat!

Dining on Lygon St comes with its challenges, there's so many restaurants pitched at the tourists who hit this busy street in Carlton. It can get a bit cheap and nasty, especially the restaurants with spruikers but not Cafe Notturno. Cafe Notturno is a decent Italian restaurant, it's genuine Italian food at reasonable prices for inner city Melbourne. The service... More

We ordered the mixed seafood which was straight out of the supermarket freezer. It was very greasy and was not fresh at all and not cooked very well. Maybe we should have stuck to something more traditional Italian. Service was ok but nothing special.Would have to improve before we go back.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
