I really enjoyed my Gnocchi Vegetarian and my husband had Spaghetti Bolognaise. The staff were very helpful and we did not wait very long for our meal to be served. Very nice. I would recommend.

Unlike other reviewers we had a very enjoyable experience at Tono's. We turned up on a Saturday night without a reservation and, whilst the restaurant was virtually full, they managed to find a nice table for 2 for us. Unlike others we were not lured into the restaurant with an offer of 20% off. We were served quickly and ordered... More

We were in the area from the south eastern suburbs, and rarely get to Carlton for Italian. It was 11:55 in the morning, and we were keen on a nice and authentic woodfired pizza. My wife had sore feet, so we didn't want to walk too far... and upon walking past Toro, this slick styled young bloke offered us 20%... More

On our first visit to Lygon Street, we got sucked in by the owner touting on the street and offering 20% discount. Owner promised us the best veal in Lygon St. We should have known better! And we should have checked reviews first! In our case, service was ok. The pizza entrée we shared was light-on for filling but ok.... More

Food terrible! Service awful! Seriously disappointed in our Lygon Street experience.. Checking reviews in this case is what we should have done before we stepped foot in this place.

My partner and I just chose this restaurant of the street. We ordered pasta and small pizza to share. The food was delicious and the service efficient. The guy at the door said it was 20% off tonight - but that wasn't reflected on the bill. The waiter corrected it quickly when we pointed it out. After we read some... More

We were walking by and he offered 20% off the bill. We had a large pizza and pasta with sea food. The pizza was thin crust and very good. The pasta was good not the best. Service was adequate and they were attentive.

Usually tout out the front. Asked a few questions and all seemed fine. Turns out thy were missing items on the menu due to lack of ingredients. No real apologies just shoulder shrugs. Expensive for what we received

Run away and never look back!!! If you're craving that dominoes pizza taste, or a risotto, that taste like one of those ready made frozen meals, from Coles. Then this is your spot. Not worth it at all. Save your time and money.

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
