Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There’s a reason this place is considered a Melbourne institution. Quite simply, it is consistent and delivers exceptional dishes that are considered and flavourful. The staff are always helpful, the wine list is expansive and the tasting menu is value for money. We’ve eaten here at least 5 times and it has never once disappointed.

I was invited by old friends for a lunch / Xmas present having not seen them for over 12 months They selected Scopri , which I had heard of but never visited Thee is plenty of parking on a Sunday and so access is easy for me , a quite disabled late 60s man The venue is pleasant with white tablecloths and attentive wait service The food is excellent and generous - too generous in fact We were three and shared an antipasto starter with aperitifs The antipasto was prosciutto and jamon with pickled veg and a yoghurty buttery dip along with Italian crispy bread sticks and the excellent basket of bread with an olive oil dipping dish My friends had , respectively, chicken and rabbit , while I had paperdelle with duck ragu The papperdelle was outstanding . Hot , soft and tender in a luscious Napoli sauce chock full of duck pieces It was too large , so concerned my waiter when it need not have . I just can’t eat that much in one sitting so will go an entree size if there is an again The rabbit received high praise as did the chicken , but there were a couple of undercooked bits to this A side of sweated silverbeet and onion was welcome but cavolo Nero would have been more authentic I had only water but my friends enjoyed a glass or two of Riesling after aperitifs of Campari Macchiatos all round ended the meal in style This is not a cheap restaurant , but is exceptional value for the quality of the food and the ambience Definitely on the list of go again and recommend wifely

We like to pop down to Melbourne from Sydney a few times a year and check out the dining scene. After 12 months away due to COVID, not only are we back, but we now have a new favourite Melbourne restaurant. Scopri is an Italian gem in Carlton, awarded with a Good Food chef hat, and specialising in authentic regional Italian dishes for over 11 years now. When we approached the unassuming facade, the front door opened, we were welcomed in, and it felt like we had been transported to a fun, yet sophisticated ristorante in Italy. Our waitress was Julia from Sardinia, and she was an absolute asset and very knowledgeable about the food, the menu and the restaurant’s history. With so many choices on the menu and a blackboard full of specials, we threw caution to the wind and decided to select the $90pp “Let us feed your table option” allowing Julia to choose the best of the best. This was an excellent choice as we were served eight generous courses of outstanding dishes, some which we may not have thought to order otherwise. Great to see restaurants like this fully booked, especially being a Tuesday night. They’ve even temporarily leased part of the gym next door in order to increase capacity post-COVID. We’re back in May and not only have we already booked in again, we’re bringing a friend (a local) to spread the word. Do yourself a favour and check this place out.

Like most people we found this restaurant through the many rave reviews and were excited to visit and as foodies enjoy every second. Firstly the food; zucchini flowers were tasteless apart from the strong olive oil, not sure what the orange sauce flavour should have been but it was missing. Then the Calamari that was average and entirely forgettable. The star; the Oysters that were delicious but served with an astringent and inedible vinegrette and shallot dressing. The Flounder that was very tasty and beautifully presented but which non of the servers offered to plate for us. Bizarre as even the calamari was offered for plating. Not something I was expecting but showed terrible service etiquette. The Steak perfectly cooked where the server offered to plate for us having explained that it was already sliced to then find the the steak was only sliced once, whereupon she hurriedly ran to get a knife and started hacking. We ordered a stellar Barolo that was delicious and decanted but the server was determined to minimise his need to serve us so we had one bottle served to us in three hefty lots, which did not do it justice. On top of this every time we were served water a huge splash landed on my sleeve and table place with no comment. Finally, the service and overall team ambience; obviously there are huge issues between kitchen and service and this is maybe why the manager was busy lurking around every table with a menacing eye on his staff. There was a tangible atmosphere where even we were reluctant to be honest about our experience. What’s sad is that this could have been so great but the horrible service the bland food and the general chaos between staff means we won’t go back and that’s the best way we can vote, is with our feet. So many better places to go in Melbourne, unless you’re very local, don’t bother.

First time we have been. We took a punt on Scorpi, on the recommendation of an acquaintance and trip advisor. Yes, the first you can treat seriously but the second can be flawed. Not so in this case. To top it off we invited good friends who have been to some of the best restaurants in the world. At the end we all commented it was pretty special. Scorpi is seriously brilliant. Seriously. One of the best meals my partner and I have ever had. You get the chance, go to this joint. The following examples may seemingly reek of name dropping but that is not the case, they are mentioned only to put our initial statements, and the meal at Scorpi, into perspective, based on our experiences. We have, in the past few years, pre Covid, had the privilege of travelling in Australia, Europe and America. We are not epicures, by any stretch of the imagination, but by the same token we love a good feed and we retain memories of our best dining experiences. These range from the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld, Vic, to the Applecross pub on the west coast of Scotland. To Melitas, at Coldstream, in the Yarra Valley, to the Rockpool in Sydney and the Rising Sun Inn, Kensington, Adelaide. To the Ritz, The Ledbury and Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in London, the Waterside Inn in Bray, UK, the Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles, Scotland, George Cinq and the Jules Verne in Paris and 9 Reinas in Barcelona. There are a few others as well in the back streets of Florence, Modena, Avignon and Santorini but you get the idea. Scorpi is their equal. When we arrived we had a choice of picking the $90 per head taste of Scorpi (a multi course feast) or the a la carte option. So we asked our waiter, Peter, if we could chose a 3rd option, a la carte but sharing. Not a problem. Having worked in the food service industry I can attest to what a pain in the arse it can be, at times, to accommodate such a request but this was not an issue at Scorpi. It was met without missing a beat. So we stared with two courses - Antipasto all Italiana and Capeante Grigliate. Delicious. We then shared mains: Agnolotti del Plin (sensational) and Risotto del Giorno ( of the day)(a taste sensation), followed by our third course, 2 other mains: Fergula Sarda (pearl pasta with with mussels, cuttlefish, prawns, tomato, crustacean bisque (magnificent) and Capretto Rustica (kid goat - great). Sweets and port (also great). Can't really add anything else.

A small but cosy restaurant. The owner has a farm in the countryside providing all the necessary ingredients which makes a difference. I like my pasta a bit more al dante but all in all the food is exceptionally fresh & tasty. Don't forget to leave room for desert! Service is your typical friendly Italian style.

Had a lovley dinner at Scopri. The waiter was terrific at matching our byo wines with our menu of Oysters, Beef Carpaccio, Calamari, Scallops, Agnolotti and Ribeye. Impeccable food combined with superb service. No question we will be back again, as Scopri is a gem in the Melbourne / Italian restaurant scene. Absolutely faultless except for the fact that the night passed too quickly.

This is a hatted restaurant so be sure to get a reservation before going! We had fantastic dining experience, we did not have a reservation and were very fortunate that the wait staff kindly offered us a table near the window. Found this restaurant through Trip Advisor and decided to check it out, not knowing it was a hatted restaurant. The dishes were sumptuous and ingredients were very fresh, vegetables were sourced from their farm in the Macedon ranges. The maitre d was telling us that there was a time when they had so much harvest, they had to make tomato sauce. Atmosphere was wonderful, we had a baby and a stroller so that took up some space but other diners and the staff were helpful and understanding. Thoroughly enjoyed the great food -I liked the agnolotti del plin and the canolo scorpri.

My wife and I visited Scopri in November and were so impressed we decided to have a weekend in Melbourne from Tassie just to visit Scopri again. This time we had our daughter and son-in-law with us. Again the service was A1 and so was the food. I have had the eye fillet both times Ihave visited and Scopri still serve the best steak I have ever eaten. The roast goat was superb as was the gnocchi. We will be back again soon!!

every time someone asks fav restaurants Scopri has always been in my top 3 memorable dinners & still is ....lucky to have secured a table weekend before 2nd lockdown ....only been here twice but it’s how the food stays in your memory the service that just makes you smile. Last Saturday we started with a bottle of Prosecco 🍾👍🏽Then oysters fresh beyond , the octopus melt in your mouth soft and the flavour omg, the scallops in heaven , continued with the Rib eye on point & the Agnolotti Rabbit, pork & veal went excellent with a shiraz & ended with the Cannolo Scopri & coffee. service again wonderful the entire evening was perfection 🤗

Just got home from a amazing long boys lunch at Scopri and my wife tells me it’s “only” number 2 out of 4000 odd in Melbourne. Well it’s my number 1 . They allow BYO with very reasonable corkage and they treat your wines like royalty- the diners too. My fourth visit and already looking forward to number 5 Today the cured Kingfish, Sydney Oysters , scallops , rib eye were all absolutely fantastic and everything is so leisurely if that’s what you want . We did and it was great. Thanks to our great waiter and excellent team in the kitchen. I think it’s great value too .

We loved the welcome we received, and we were then brought soda water, and beautiful fresh bread with olive oil. Our most knowledgeable and friendly waiter explained in great detail the special dishes, starting with the entrees, and then onto the main courses. We were then served lovely non alcoholic gin and tonics, followed by the most delicious entrees. Our main courses followed, which were thoroughly enjoyed by each of us. Finally we were served tiramisu for desert. Congratulations and warmest regards from us to Bruce and staff who run a magnificent restaurant. Finally, if you are thinking of which restaurant to choose when you have very special occasion to celebrate- take it from me, you can’t do better than Scopri !!

I would travel back from Texas to Australia just to eat here. The food and service (our waiter acted more like an owner) was first rate. The absolutely best homemade pasta I have ever tasted. My husband and I couldn't stop raving about this experience. Go and enjoy!!! But you need reservations, as it is not a large venue.

What a way to emerge from lockdown austerity. From the antipasti to the dolci and formaggi the dining is an adventure in excellently prepared and presented fresh food. Particularly in the primi course the “ravioli con piselli e cavolo nero” has to be not eaten but experienced. Thank you to the chef and thr front of house staff. We will be back - in numbers. Congratulations Scopri.

Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
