A great find!!! As we were staying close by always on the lookout for somewhere decent. As we were catching trains I noticed this place. We called in on a Sunday evening. Prices for a glass of house white and a pint of beer were...the best we came across. We had a decent meal. The staff were excellent and friendly. We returned on the Monday. It was Happy Hour!!! $10 for a glass of wine and a schooner of beer!! Unbelievable in Melbourne. We had another meal. I fully recommend the Calamari. We talked to the owner. He makes it a condition that the staff are friendly and helpful.More

This bar is located beside the platform 2 at Southern Cross Station. I called in for a Friday lunch and had a capricossia pizza. Pizza was quite average. I have visited several times during their $5 schooner happy hour which is great value. Good selection...of beers as well as wines on offer. Mostly quite a busy venue. I enjoy sitting at the window facing the VLine platforms and people and train watch.More

Had a drink with a mate before he caught his train. Ordered 2 pizzas for $36 take away…… Hung around the doorway for an hour waiting waiting for their electronic buzzer to go off. Finally a staff member asked why I was hanging around the...door then I showed him my possession of their electronic buzzer. Apparently my order was misplaced. I had a train to catch. Nicely returned the buzzer and simply walked. Lost $36 but I’ll put that down to experience in dealing with Network Pizza. Punish them by not going there. We stand United!More

Found this great bar in Southern Cross Station to watch some Rugby . Simple menu of burgers, pizza and Palma’s . Great choice at the bar for drinks with beer on tap etc . Sadly we had a glass of there house Shiraz and it...was horrible . So that is the only thing I don’t recommend . Maybe try there Cab Sav or Merlot . Not sure if it’s better but we will be back to give it a go . Apart from bad Shiraz, it was a warm, filling experience .More

Whilst traveling through Melbourne on route to Sale I took the opportunity to catch up with a business connection and this being central to the travel hub was deemed the perfect choice. Intend to use this bar/restaurant during future business visits.

Had an early lunch passing through solo. Solid varied specials menu as well as a comprehensive main menu. Had chicken thigh fillet schnitzel and mash with gravy on the side for $22 from the special menu. Was a wonderfully tasty fresh meal. Have had pizza...previously which was also fantastic and great value. Plenty of seating in and out of air conditioning with easy wheelchair access. No booking required. Lovely personable service with a smile. Suitable for anyone and would happily recommend.More

We discovered most restaurant/pubs near our hotel on Little Collins were closed on Sunday. Finding NPB was like walking into a typical bar & grill back in the states with pro AFL/NFL football on sports TV screens.  We sat in the inside air-conditioned bar area...since their 'beer garden' patio seemed rather thick with train fumes.  I had a cold Carlton draught and the Polo e Funghi - chicken, mushrooms, garlic, green onions and parmesan cheese cream sauce over al-dente pasta. NPB also serves appetizers, entrees, burgers, sandwiches, pizza,  even breakfast. Self-serve - order & pick up your food at the bar (pickup pizza at the pizza counter, also silverware & napkins). Large portions of food, delicious and decently priced.More

Dropped in just to have a beer before heading home on the train. Nice place for beers after work or a simple meal before heading off home on the train or travelling somewhere on a coach. Sort of divided in two - one zone has...the bar, sports TV screens, kitchen & some tabled seating while the other zone is like a beer garden with warm overhead heaters and views of the traffic & pedestrians on Spencer St. Nice, friendly atmosphere & thankfully no poker machines. I think I'll have another beer & watch Spencer St go by.More

This is a good value and convenient drop in for suburban commuters and regional train travellers. Conveniently located within Southern Cross station, so only minutes to your departing platform. No table service, drinks and orders at bar and pick up meals when ready. Good pub...style food and pizza selection, think wholesome not healthy! Plenty of seating at tables, limited standing room at bar. Reasonable prices and house wine acceptable. Not for a romantic occasion, think convenience.More

What an idea - cool. Lots of sports screens and a bar and bar food. Good service and ok pricing for the drinks. Food a bit average - could lift the quality and ask a bit more if it was better grub.

Had a little time to spare before heading off into the XPT night. Walked in and hit by the atmosphere, warm and upbeat. Two drinks $10, pizza and a beer $15. Not a great pizza lover but this was delicious. Great start to a long...trip.More

This is quite a popular restaurant situated on the ground floor of Southern Cross railway station at the Spencer Street end. It was quite busy when I went there pre an AFL game. Service was relatively quick for the burger but a longer wait was...for the spaghetti meal. There was a newspaper to read. The food itself was fine particularly the spaghetti bolognaise but I thought the burger with chips was a bit on the bland side and not too much meat was inside the burger. All that said we had a pleasant meal with TVs showing various activities and people coming and going. In terms of the rating I felt it was Good rather than Very Good. I thought it was a bit above Average but not much more than that. I'd go there again for a feed but might pass on the burger. Reasonably priced venue and a good pub type of atmosphere which is I guess the intention of the owners.More
