Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed in the Oaks next door (I think they may be co-owned) for a few weeks (and will be back for a couple of months shortly). So far only tried the downstairs cafe for breakfast at weekends. Good range of veggie options and they are more than happy to amend to be veggie, eg eggs Benedict with mushrooms in place of bacon/ham. Recommended is the smashed avocado and poached eggs on rye toast. When I return to Melbourne I’ll be back for sure and also plan to try in the evening.

I sat in the very front area of the building (lobby cafe, I guess). I think there are multiple versions of this dining area in the building. At this simple place there are hot drinks and simple snacks, mostly toasted sandwiches. The service is good and I was brought water without having to ask. My cheese and tomato toastie has tomatoes with a real bite and good quality cheese. Jazz music provided the background and album covers the decor.

I was brought a latte coffee from you this morning as my night at Oaks in a smelly unchanged sheets bed, they tried to redeem themselves by getting me a coffee as their room service was down. Honestly Our City of Melbourne is known for our coffee, how you managed to bring that undone I don’t know 🤔 ummmm I’m sorry but did you dredge the bottom of the Yarra this morning because I swear that was not coffee . A terrible ending from celebrating my daughters 21st from the night before.

Dear Madam....Dear Kirstein, So sorry to hear that our coffee was not of the very highest standard as our reputation suggests. Whilst this is a first for me it does not take away in any sense our feeling of regret for such a disappointing experience. (As you can imagine I can only comment on this aspect of your family's Melbourne visit). We hope that we have an opportunity to redeem ourselves in the not too distant future. Sincerely, David David G.A. Perry General Manager The Jazz Corner Hotel and The Jazz Corner Cafe

We were staying at a nearby hotel and after a long day out, we were too tired to go too far for dinner. We both had a couple of beers and a burger. Our burgers were nice and tasty and hit the spot. The staff were friendly. The venue wasn't overly busy but it does have a nice ambience.

We were staying in the hotel, next door and went to the Jazz Corner Cafe for breakfast. There was nobody else in, but still, the waiting staff did not look up or welcome us. We had to go to them. The menu was very limited. I ordered, fruit toast with butter and preserves. My plate arrived, with 3 , very poor quality, pieces of fruit toast, no butter, no preserve. It looked as though it was from the cheapest, super market brand available. My partner ordered smashed avocado on toast. When the plate arrived, again it was the cheapest quality of bread, available. It was cold and avocado had been spread on and pressed with a fork. It was disgusting. I did tell the Receptionist that it was very poor. She was completely, disinterested. Definitely would not recommend this place, to anyone.

Wandering Melbourne and jumped the free tram at Flagstaff Gardens - glad we did! Yummy burger and chips plus a Marlborough Sav Blanc - filled the void nicely. With the gentle Jazz flowing in the background it made for a nice break.

This spot was perfect breakfast spot for our family of 5 on way to Zoo (tram stop just out front), catered well for the kids and a diets - gluten free, vegan and kid friendly. Service was 100%! Lovely jazz music in background while we ate

Near Flagstaff Park this Jazz themed Cafe offered good hot drinks and a great burger on a wintry day. You can order digitally from the table or they will take the order in the normal way.

Was staying at the Oaks apartments and found this little gem. Terrific coffee and a very well priced breakfast and excellent table service with a smile.

The cafe is a slow lift ride up one floor. The cafe is long and narrow. We were quickly shown to a table. As it was a four seater, we could read our newspapers easily. It took a while before our orders were taken. My wife chose eggs and rye toast. I had rye toast with vegemite and a side of mushrooms. They were all delicious and the servings were generous. While the bill of fare was not extensive, it was good to be able to have enough rather than a buffet where we always have too much.

This restaurant is part of the Jazz Corner Hotel and is on the mezzanine level of the hotel overlooking Flagstaff Park. The breakfast buffet was well provisioned and fresh with a great choice of both hot and cold dishes as well as a selection of fresh juice and great coffee. A fantastic way to start the morning.

Nice place to have coffee and breakfast. Waters can be nicer but the restaurant is located on the 1st-2nd floor of the hotel, so this may be the reason.

Friendly staff, pretty location and cool vibes. The food however was NOT nice and not at all worth the price! I ordered the Jazz Breakfast feast. The bacon was like cardboard, the chicken sausage was pink inside, the potato roasti aka hash brown was so oily and no potato present, as it was over cooked and crunchy. It is meant to be a choice of eggs and bread, I wasn’t asked and this was my fault I should have remembered to say my choice. The eggs brought out were poached and were not runny at all, they were hard and rubbery and I couldn’t eat them. My cappuccino didn’t have froth and was extremely milky. Friend had the omelet and said it was okay.

This place has good coffee. Good selection for breakfast and morning tea. Prices are reasonable. After paying for coffee in Perth all Melbourne prices are good. Friendly service. Warm on a cold spring morning.

Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
