This is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. Convenient central location, with a very cozy atmosphere and incredible food. The pork is fantastic, as is the service.

Fantastic friendly service! Seriously delicious food! Fab little location... so good it motivated me to write my first ever trip advisor review and quite possibly the best pork dish (the hot pot) that I’ve ever had. Amazing cocktails with Japanese spirits too... AAA+

We arrived drenched after being caught in a summer thunderstorm. We were welcomed with dry towels and warm smiles. We ordered Katsu-don, Katsu curry and tonkatsu which were all equally delicious, with sweet pork cooked perfectly . Green tea icecream to finish was lovely.

A cute little place in Little Lonsdale - easily missed, turns out I have been walking past it all these years! Gypsy & Pig specialises in 'kurobuta' pork - translated to 'black pig', it is essentially pork cuts from Black Berkshire pigs bred in Japan...More

Went here on the off chance and what a delightful experience. The food was delicious and very tasty, the service was good and luckily we got seated straight away on a busy Friday night. Would definitely go back.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air

I would book, purely so you don't miss out on dining here. There are only about 25 seats & being on the corner of Hardware Lane there is a lot of dinner foot traffic. Make sure you try the seared salmon nigiri :)

This is not a general Japanese Restaurant you have known. More precisely, we are 'SPECIALTY RESTAURANT of Japanese-Pork'. That we are specializing in 'pork' means almost all our menu are pork-dishes. So, if you feel like having pork or if you have never eaten delicious pork before, this is the best and only one place to satisfy you in Australia. In all pork-dish menu we have, our signature is ' Tonkatu (とんかつ)'. ' Tonkatsu' is deepfried pork-loin covered with breadcrumbs(Panko), which is Japanese typical dish. In Gypsy&Pig, you could enjoy real ' Tonkatsu' with our original ' Tonkatsu-Sauce' as if you were in real ' Tonkatsu-Ya' in Japan.
