First time here and no we hadn't read any reviews. We checked the menu on the window and it appealed. We were not disappointed. The staff were polite, attentive and unobtrusive. The food was freshly cooked, flavoursome, appealing to the eye and beautiful to eat. We shared two mains and enjoyed the very good service, cost was surprisingly affordable, less... More

We came for dinner the 2 of us without a booking, no problem the place was a third full. The waiter was attentive and pleasant. We chose garlic and turkish bread to start followed by chicken parmigiana a very good size and tasted superb. I had pork steak, tender and juicy. Both came with chips and salad. We had afogato... Despite the hotel management advising my party to NOT eat at this in-house restaurant I allowed myself the indulgence of reading the menu and finding myself pleasantly surprised. Getting a table on a Saturday night was not hard - probably due to its location. The food was terrific, the service was spot-on and the pricing was quite acceptable. Not sure... More

This place was disappointing. Service was good, ambience was poor, menu limited, and the dish I had was tasteless. Risotto is not that hard to make, but it is hard to get right flavour wise. They failed. Not recommended on the basis of this visit.

We ate here both evenings we were in Melbourne, and really do not understand why they are not packed out each night. Food and service are great and reasonably priced. Thanks very much.

We walked in off the street, very tired after a long day and were directed to a lively table near the window. I ordered a lemon lime and bitters....probably the best I've had in a long time. I ordered a chicken caesar salad and it far exceeded my expectation. My partner ordered squid rings and prawns, chips and a side... More

We had dinner at Il Sole whilst in Melbourne and staying at the adjacent Atlantis Best Western hotel. It is very conveniently located opposite the Southern Cross railway station in Spencer Street. We were readily accommodated without a reservation on a Sunday night. Whilst claiming to be an Italian restaurant it has a variety of food choices including Thai Spring... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
