Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to this restaurant as we saw a recommendation on youtube. Order the dumpling and noodles. Dumpling was good but not the noodles which was plain and not worth the price. Service was bad. Requested extra bowls as we were sharing but the plump lady with short hair and a hair tie on top of head was extremely rude. She did not speak with a Chinese accent. She told us that we had to wait and refused to served us for 15 mins until we called the lady boss over. She noticed it and immediately gave us 3 bowls. Such Bad Manners!!

My husband and I stopped here for dinner and ordered fried dumplings and noodle soup. I would consider these dishes to be great Chinese comfort food at a very reasonable price. The fried dumplings had the right amount of crisp on them which you don't always find at every Chinese restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area looking for a satisfying Chinese meal.

If you like your dumplings, this small and unpretentious Chinese eatery hidden away in an arcade off Bourke St is a must. At first glance, prices may seem a little on the high side, but then you see how many dumplings you receive per serve. It's excellent value - and invariably incredibly tasty. Nice staff, too. Our favourites were the pan-fried mackerel dumplings and the boiled chicken and seafood dumplings.

We went for dinner and were very disappointed after reading so many positive reviews and having to try and book several times because they were so busy. The beef dumplings tasted really good despite the casing not being properly sealed. The Chilli beef dish was so tough and dry I just left it. The corkage of $8 per bottle doesn't really match the 'good value' positioning of the restaurant. Seriously $8 just to wash two glasses is ridiculous.

Saturday brunch for 8 was fantastic. Very reasonably priced and super tasty. Dumplings are obviously the standout but the dishes are also well made though their Chongqing La Si Ji wasn’t nearly as spicy as I would have liked. Definitely don’t miss this great spot.

Arrived uncooked and welcomed well. Only drawback was we code ordering but luckily had my tech savvy daughter with us. Food came promptly and was very good. At the end good meal for four with a couple of beers and tea reasonably priced considering it was a holiday with surcharges. Table napkins pathetic which is main reason for four not five stars. Would definitely return but back to UK soon.

This restaurant was in an alley off of Bourke Street. Inside was no frills but the food was more than that. This another restaurant with QR code ordering. After we submitted it, I went up to pay as directed online but they told me to pay after we finished. Staff was very friendly and did a good job throughout. The hot and sour soup was first out of the kitchen and it was thick, savory and just a little sour to our liking. The boiled dumplings were plentiful and filled with mackerel. First time we tried it in a dumpling and it was delightful. The Melbourne potstickers were crispy and tasty with its mixture of chicken and seafood. We will return again.

Good place for dumplings. A pity the in, dumplings were only black faith pork stuffing, no actual squid inside. For the price, this was disappointing. Other dumplings are ok, maybe missing a bit of taste. A pity they do not have soul dumplings.

Amazing dumplings! We found this restaurant a number of years ago and we have returned every time we visit Melbourne. The food continues to be consistently delicious. The potstickers are a real treat.

Simple, tasty and fresh - Chinese dumplings made to order and delivered to your table. We had the pan-fried fish dumplings and the pan-find chicken and prawn dumplings. The fish (mackerel) was more successful (in our opinion) but both were good. Be sure to add the complimentary Chinese vinegar, chili or soy sauce to suit your taste. ShanDong MaMa is busy (be prepared to wait at peak times) and it's no nonsense - eat and go. But for a quick lunch that is tasty and light then this is a good place to visit.

If you’re a dumpling fan, then you must go here!! There are a multitude of Dumpling Houses in Melbourne’s Chinatown - but this place was brilliant! Just a tiny restaurant down an alleyway, but just the best food!

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
