I have been to this place a few times and the atmosphere and food have always been great. So I confidently recommended Threefold for a business lunch for 7 people on a weekday afternoon. The sandwiches we ordered took nearly an hour to arrive! I was so embarrassed. When they arrived they were fine but the whole experience was ruined... More

I came across this little "nook in the wall" by accident whilst aimlessly roaming Melbourne's many alleys, looking for somewhere "nice" to have a quiet coffee and a "nice" lunch. I walked in and was instantly given a friendly and warm welcome by the barista (chef?). I took a quiet seat in side and the waitress was quick efficient and... More

A stylish place for lunch or just a coffee with a little something on the side. No mass-produced slices or dry old cake here, they make their own unusual offerings. I can recommend the tarts, we had Leek and Parmesan, Zucchini and Mozzarella, Beetroot and Pecorino, all of which came with a choice of 1 or 2 salads. It was... More

..but in the interests of good karma I will let you know this easily overlooked tiny cafe just of Queen St is a gem. Service is sharp and fast. The have barista coffee makers intent on creating consistently high quality coffee (I have frequented this cafe more than 10 times). There are always very interesting sweet and savoury morsels on... amazing coffee, delicious food, great service, they had just finished breakfast service but made an exception for us which we were very grateful for. in a place like melbourne, easy to get food envy and wish you tried somewhere else, this is definitely a no regret place.

Love rhis spot for lunch. Best salads with a difference. I had sliders with an Aubergine salad with peanut sauce was yum. Noisy with music so plenty of atmosphere. Not a place to stay for a long time. Coffee table setting makes it cosy but that's part of the appeal.

Revisted for lunch and sadly it was not as good as last time. Food was still good but the staff had changed & was not as friedly or efficient as when I previously visited. Used to serve the best soy latte but alas not anymore previous barista was fantastic.

This place was fantastic. Great coffee, excellent service & ambience, and "slabs of bacon" in my brunch... What more could you ask for?

Stumbled upon this place a few months ago as it is in Flinders Lane on the corner of Tavistock Place. It is a licensed café and foodstore with windows overlooking Tavistock Place. Coffee is the best I've had in ages & the food is so varied displayed on the magnificent marble slab for you to make a choice. So tasty... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
