I went to JG because it is only a walking distance from our place. We had a brunch there. The food is a ok. The coffee is not for my liking, but they serve baby cino so my toddler can have a drink similar to her parents.

If only they put the effort into menu and not overcharging plus at least trying to be pleasant to customers that they put into the original styling? Thankfully there are plenty of alternatives in the area.

It took me a while to make up my mind what to eat, as the vegetarian choices were meagre and the menu said: "no changes". Anyway, I was happy in the end. Perhaps the cafe is too hipster for me. At the next table a girl was discussing a band saying: "the word on the street..." and mentioning that they... More

I love wandering up here whenever I am in Melbourne. The service is always good, the staff friendly and the coffee great!

I really wanted to like this cafe as it was my local and so gave them quite a few opportunities but always left with that feeling of having over paid for something mediocre. The food menu is to be honest boring and over priced. The coffee is simply average, more symptomatic of a non descript bean rather than lack of... More

The food is a bit steep, but not totally unreasonable. You get what you pay for. Coffees are well-made and I can say with confidence that everything I have tried in my more than five visits has been exquisite.

Saw their post on facebook and as it was within walking distance had to go. Had the spicy cold herbal tea which was exactly what i needed before i got back on the booze. Great staff, quirky clientele. All round nice place.

Called here recently with grandson and family for breakfast but no high chairs provided! This may be a deliberate choice by the management, which is surprising given the breakfast/cafe culture in Melbourne and the way the majority of eating establishments cater for and welcome young children. Please make a note on your website if this is the case. So, we... More

Walking distance from my house, I'm frequent flyer at John Gorilla, and I am always looked after, friendly staff, great service. Only feedback would be variation with the menu, and the coffee is the not the best, but that's my personal opinion. If you are going for any reason go for the sweets, they are an absolute winner!

We went with a couple families for breakfast on a Monday morning. Plenty of choices. I had French toast that had sesame seed icecream and blood orange wedges. Very unusual and very nice. All food was enjoyed by all. Coffee is great.
